In my teenage years I did some pretty long trips. But at this point I'm back to newb status. I've been toying with the idea of getting a bike to help keep some of the Yelp pounds off, so I just ducked in here to have a look around. It's a nice shop on the west side of 700 East, and everyone was friendly. I was greeted when I came in the door but left to myself to just browse and look at bikes and gear. There's plenty of both. It's not massive, but for all the basic needs you're definitely covered. Bikes ranged from entry level up to the 2-3K range. Maybe more, but I wasn't reading all the price tags. This was a good place to start. Since it's not all uber high end stuff, it was a good representation of what's out there. Plus with friendly folks behind the counter I can come back next time and start firing away on all my inane questions. Solid.

Tried a bait and switch on me once, but I wasn't in the mood and called him on it. Another time the shop was slow and he was trying hard to sell me a new bike, but seemed offended when I casually mentioned I preferred Campagnolo Super Record instead of Dura Ace -especially if I am spending that kind of money. Overall, I still go there when I need something as the prices and selection are good and a lot of the other closer shops in town either don't service/supply road bikes and parts (Go Ride) or have some serious attitude (Guthries and Pretender....uh, I mean Contender).

Most shops have a process and can spit out a price within a couple minutes for this. Continue to support your local small bike shops but maybe avoid Highlander for anything as complex as finishing a build - its a little too much for them to handle.

I just bought two electric bikes from eSpokes and they are amazing!…read more Every time I go out on my bike I have sooo much fun. The best part is effortlessly shooting up a hill past some kids who look at me like I must be superhuman or something : ) There's no way they can easily tell my bicycle has a power assist mode. Too funny.. eSpokes have been really helpful and great to work with. I added a ton of upgrades, least of which were puncture resistant tires and inner tubes, vital I have learned, for cycling in the Salt Lake Valley. I can honestly say and you are going to think I am crazy for saying this, but buying these (easy motion) bikes from eSpokes is the best and funnest thing I have ever purchased!!! Electric bikes have come so far in the last couple of years, they look like mountain bikes but make cycling uphill a breeze and ride just like normal bikes on a level grade. I've heard some people say these are like cheating. In my opinion they are missing the point. Both myself and my wife go out on them a lot and get a lot of exercise because they are so fun. She can keep up with me and riding back up the hill is no longer a pain. eSpokes rock!!!
