If you're trying to figure out just how much I know about bikes, know that I'm pre-novice. I mean, gramps taught me to ride a bike as a kid. The training wheels are long gone. In my teenage years I did some pretty long trips. But at this point I'm back to newb status. I've been toying with the idea of getting a bike to help keep some of the Yelp pounds off, so I just ducked in here to have a look around. It's a nice shop on the west side of 700 East, and everyone was friendly. I was greeted when I came in the door but left to myself to just browse and look at bikes and gear. There's plenty of both. It's not massive, but for all the basic needs you're definitely covered. Bikes ranged from entry level up to the 2-3K range. Maybe more, but I wasn't reading all the price tags. This was a good place to start. Since it's not all uber high end stuff, it was a good representation of what's out there. Plus with friendly folks behind the counter I can come back next time and start firing away on all my inane questions. Solid. read more

This is what i got typed up I went there to have my bead set using air compressor after converting my new bike to tube less. The nice gentleman was happy to Help but after a few tries come to realize that i needed to re tape my rims. I asked him if he could show me what tape i needed an he gladly obliged. Being my first bike i have ever own i was happy for the professional insight. Unfortunately when i got home an went to retape my rim i realized the tape i was sold was not the right size. The following day have brought back my purchase and asked if I could get a refund an if I could just pay them to tape my rim. I was met with hostility and aggression from a guy named Chad and was told that this was my fault and that I should've took the tire off the rim before asking them What size tape I needed an its my responsibility to make sure im buying the right stuff. Even though the whole reason I came, there was to ask for insight I would not recommend this to nobody. I truly felt unsafe an then when i tried to take my tire else where he would not let an when i asked about a price he would not give me one. I have purchased two bikes from the store. They have a great location off 700 East with ample parking. They have experienced and professional staff. One of the bikes we ordered from Specialized online and had it delivered to store. They assembled it and rode it home from store. They only carry Specialized bikes, no other brands. When I test rode a gravel bike I was able to find a poorly maintained alley nearby. I have stopped by for repairs and they were promptly completed at a fair price. They are one of the best bike shops in the area. read more

Gave us a price over the phone, then tried to charge us more at the register. Should have walked away but ordered the bike anyway. When we went to pick it up they said we couldn't come in, as there were already too many people inside. Brought it outside and felt like we were being rushed out after spending 2k. Never said anything about bringing it back for the first tune. Not a good experience. Not impressed. I will be spending big money on an S-Works e-bike this season. My boyfriend dropped off his mountain bike at the Bicycle Center to get a tune up. We just moved to Salt Lake and he was really looking forward to hitting the trails here. When he dropped it off, he was told it would be $50. This sounded about right to him- he's been mountain biking for 10 years and has gone to many bike shops in Orange County and southern California, and that is typically what he is charged for a routine tune up. We just went to pick it up, and he was charged over $115. When he asked about the price difference, the guy working behind the counter told us that the technician (who we were also told was the manager) must have found something wrong with it, but couldn't tell us what had been done. Matt thought someone should have called him if there had been a problem that resulted in a price change, but the guy behind the desk shrugged and said, "sometimes they call, sometimes they don't". Huh. That's a nice way to run your business. We'll find a new bike shop. read more

After checking out mountain bikes across the city and being a serious buyer, it takes a lot of riding and trying out different bikes. My girlfriend had many different experiences with sales people, from not being interested in selling a bike- to pushing her in a completely different direction of price and what she truly wanted in a bike. She decided on a great bike from here thanks to the professional help from Cameron and Chad. I'm happy she got the bicycle she wanted, plus glad she ended up buying from Bicycle Center. Cameron is awesome and I had to even express my thanks to him for being a patient and knowledgeable salesman to us, before even choosing to buy from here! To be fair, the reason we started going here is simply that it's about 5 blocks from our house. The fact that I can drop my bike off and walk home easily is a big plus. That being said, they've always been super-helpful and the prices seem reasonable. I bought two bikes there a few years ago and since then have used them for all my tuneup and fixing-up needs. I have a 12-mile commute each way to work and about 3 miles of that is in the lovely North Temple construction so my bike gets banged up a lot and in general just has a lot of wear and tear. In my experience they're always very close to how much they're going to charge and they have called before to mention that something else needs fixed. They do seem pretty knowledgeable so that's helpful for most of us pretend-bicyclists, which is how I always think of myself when I get passed by someone super-skinny in full bike gear going almost twice as fast as me. read more

I bougtht my first mountain bike here over 15 years ago and keep going back for all my cycling needs. The environment in the shop is awesome! Poor service. Took them 20 minutes to find pedals and then we asked to have help putting them on and they offered to sell us a tool rather than just helping us in their shop. Their bike rack is hidden in their lot and has no room as it's blocked by cars. Will never buy anything from here again. F this place. Smh read more

I've worked with bike shops all over town and this is my favorite. I'm cheap so prices always seem a little high but their service is excellent and their staff is friendly. Best of all, they get it done quickly and sometimes even invite me into the shop area to watch. I'm especially happy with my Specialized Robaix. What a great bike! read more

One of the absolute worst experiences ive ever had. they actually broke the light on my bike when repairing a puncture. they then flat out told me they hadn't broken it (its was a new bike and i seen the guy break it). so that's bad enough. then two weeks later the tires is flat again after i hadn't ridden it. and they refused to refund me. avoid this place like the plague. the staff are atrocious, they work is clueless. I mean they cant fix a flat tire and break my light - and charged me for it. read more

I am surprised to see any poor reviews for this shop but I guess anyone can have an off day. I have purchased 8-10 bikes here for me and my family as well as referring friends that have purchased from BC. To get to the shop I pass more than 10 bike shops, I do so because I know I am getting a great value as well as great service. Do your research, price shop and then go see these guys. Quite disappointed. I brought my bike there for a tune up and all I was told was my seat was wearing out. The only reason I am giving two stars is because they said they had my bike ready for a quick turn around. But when picked up my bike my chain and cogs were still full of grease. I brought my bike home and cleaned it myself. My brake lines were very loose, something I would've expected to be tightened for a tune up. I'll be searching for another place. read more

These guys are great! I have bought all my bikes here since I have lived in Salt Lake City (14 years). I have visited many shops along the Wasatch Front, but no one takes care of me like Bicycle Center. They are honest and tell you what you need and nothing you don't. BC has never been late on a repair. I've used them for over 5 years and for 4 bikes. I really appreciate their honesty. I have absolutely been ripped off by a few other shops. These guys only fix what needs to be fixed instead of looking to charge more. They have always done great repairs and tune ups for me. read more

I bought a new specialized hybrid bike from these guys in June 2012, I called and ordered the bike over the phone because I knew which model I wanted, the sales person ( a young women who's name I can't remember) quoted me a price, I agreed to the price, when I went to pick up the bike 4 days later the disinterested cashier clerk insisted I pay 130.00 more for the bike, I asked them to call the sales clerk who quoted me the price for the bike and the clerk just ignored me!! The manager (douche bag who was obviously behind the whole bait and switch) came out of his hiding hole and asked me why he should give me the price quoted, " this a new model" he said, put me through the wringer over the transaction, when I said forget it and started to walk, he agreed to the price I was quoted. Then he tried to make small talk and said I should bring the bike back in for adjustments in a few weeks!! Eek! I wouldn't set foot in that place again if it was the last bike shop in Utah!! read more

I purchased my very expensive bike from this company. From the beginning I got the vibe that most of the employees that work there are indifferent, curt and pompous. Most of the employees are of the younger demographic that I think just work there to get a discount off of everything. When I asked several of them how to handle something or specific bike maintenance, I received different, conflicting answers from them. I think everybody should be on the same page with how to handle the mechanics of your bike. More often than not, when they get done working on my bike, I would get ready to ride only to find that they indeed did not fix the problem. Many times I had to take it back multiple times for each problem and eventually became suspect of their work before I even left the shop. Don't know what the mechanic was doing, but it wasn't working on my bike. Communication. I would tell somebody exactly what was wrong with my bike and either that wouldn't be communicated with the mechanic, or they didn't pay attention to what I was saying. Again, most were disengaged and had a nonchalant attitude. I don't need to feel like Norm from Cheers every time I walk into the shop, but it would be nice if they retained any sort of information (name, what happened previously, etc.), but there's so much turn-around that I don't think it's possible. I don't need any special service, but when I spend thousands of dollars on a product I at least want common courtesy or at least a feigned resemblance or verisimilitude of giving a shit. The final straw for me to never go back here was when I called to see if I could come in and watch them put in new brake pads. The kid didn't waste a second to tell me that there was no way and didn't offer any other solutions. He said he had no idea when the mechanic wasn't going to get to my bike, blah, blah, blah. I even told him I could come in when the mechanic was going to work on it. This is interesting since most times I go in there, the employees are watching TV or staring out into space. This company doesn't deserve my money. I called Bingham Cyclery, asked them if I could watch their mechanic work on my brakes and they said yes and we scheduled a time and everything worked out great. I will always go to Bingham from now on. You lost an avid mountain biker for life, Bicycle Center. read more
