I would like to give Hanger94 a higher rating as I have been a customer since the early 2000's. The typical experience there goes as follows: you walk in, you will be consistently asked if help is needed and your questions will be answered by knowledgeable staff (especially if you are looking at surf/snowboards). The selection of clothing is better than any other stores around and the prices are to be expected. The comments above deserve 4 stars, however, I tried to return/question the quality of an item purchased (see below)..... -Surfboard was purchased and used for 2 sessions within 3 days. -The glass where carbon fiber tail patch ends spidercracks across the entire deck. -I take the board in to ask if this is normal or a defective glass job, given the amount of usage, and I am assisted by the manager Mike. - Mike already seemed to be agitated that I had brought my board in before we even said a word. After a short discussion (really an argument) he agreed to call the manufacturer. (Not sure if he really did). He then came barreling out of the back, red faced, and explicitly stated that it was "your fault" for the cracking of the glass and that there is nothing they can do. I understood that this may or may not be a defective glass job but he got in my face about as if I were trying to drop in on him. After he chameleoned back to his skin tone I shook his hand and thanked him for his help with a big smile. Then he lightened up and said that it was good that I came in and showed him the issue so that if the specific area on the board had anything serious going on that it would be noted. -In the end, I was educated but the experience prior to the last few words was very impressionable. (As noted by several other reviews.) *Mike - It's not what you say, it is how you are perceived. Try to put yourself in the customers shoes prior to getting worked up so you can help us in a more professional manner, regardless of the outcome.* In summary: - Pros: Enormous selection, Awesome Sales Staff. - Cons: Customer Service regarding Returns/Quality concerns. - I will continue to shop here for the Pros and will take my chances with the quality of the merchandise. read more

I WISH I COULD GIVE ZERO STARS I came here for the first time looking to buy a rash guard, and when I walked in I was greeted and was asked if I needed help. I found what I needed and wanted browse around a bit. Then an older man with glasses and greasy red face gave me the UGLIEST look I have ever gotten! I looked at him real quick and gave him a smile, but he just gave me the dirtiest look back. I thought "Wow. What's up his ass? He must think I'm stealing." I continued to browse, and I could see him in the corner of my eye following me. Then out of nowhere a sales girl ran over to me and asked if she could hold onto my item while I browsed (obviously, he sent her over to check on me). I said no, I'm ready to pay. I walked by the same man again and he still gave me dirty looks! Way to be discreet, bro! Just because I'm brown doesn't mean I'm stealing! I could not believe it. I'm kind of ashamed I still bought my item, but I guess I had something to prove- that I was NOT stealing. I don't care if you're just making sure someone is not stealing, BUT do not give people angry looks and make them feel unwanted, because you just lost good business. PLEASE I urge you to spend your money somewhere else. Go to Sports Authority across the street, or go to Sun Diego at Parkway Plaza. Good amount of product, horrible customer service. When I walked in I was immediately reminded of why I stopped shopping here. The employee behind the front counter just watched me walk in and turned away without greeting me or even cracking a smile. I went upstairs to the skate section and stood at the counter and waited for the employee to finally make his way over. I asked if they had a specific pair of wheels and he snidely said "no" and walked away. I took my business to another local skate shop and that's where it will stay. read more

This store was nothing but trouble. I bought a pair of shoes on sale and thought I was getting a great deal. Come to find out the shoes were defective. I tried them on for a day in my home and realized the shoes were completely unwearable do to the defective design. I went back to the store and tried to return the shoes the next day because they hurt my feet. All 5 of the employees on staff ganged up together looking at me like I was crazy trying to return my shoes. Looking for any reason to just push me aside. They didn't care to listen to me. Simply stating "were getting a lot of returns" and the manager "Mike" isn't here today and he wont allow me to exchange shoes if they have been worn. I clearly pointed out that the shoes were brand new and only 1 day old and that they were defective so I need an even exchange. The assistant manager "John" told me " I wore them" and that " I would have to talk to Mike" and they refused to take their defective shoes back for an even exchange. How dare you ! call me a liar if front of other other patrons and make me out to be the bad guy! you mean I bought them not I wore them. Go ahead Refuse to return or Exchange the $43.00 pair of defective sale shoes. Clearly the shoes had never been worn and the bottom line for me is they made me fell Horrible for being a customer. After about a half hour of abuse In front of other patrons they made me leave completely unsatisfied and outraged. They all keep looking down on me like I was trying to get away with a some kind of shoe scam and like I was crazy for not accepting "No" as an answer for an even exchange. Never again will I waste my hard earned cash supporting this local skate shop. My left foot still has a bruise from the shoes they sold me and I only tied them on in my home for a day!! Apparently they must be running a shoe scam selling defective shoes. "why else would they be on sale?" Right ? so just keep in mind Hanger 94 is sooo cheap that they would rather lose customers than do what is right. Went in on a day off from work to get some gear that I needed, ended up just getting whole new set up of a skate board and was helped by a guy I can't remember his name but he was a super cool, skinny stoner looking dude and also must have been his assistant Manager Damon, totally stoked with their service. Price was high but I justified it in my head cus they were cool, the board was sick and I wanted to get out of there and skate my new skate. Fast forward 2 days and only and hours time skating total, I wanted to exchange my trucks for something better, as soon as I said "return it", it was on.. totally NOT "on" for the dream... It was like getting barreled on a sick wave, getting pitted and then it closes out, then getting pummeled under water. Shreddability was a major low, First off the manager wouldn't even talk to me, finally after being persistent he came out... total Cop/Nark with his arms folded, had a tear drop tattoo and a tramp stamp right above his board shorts, totally Firing for the dream, Yew!, ANYway, he proceeded to say no, because I rode on it already.. and I proceeded to say yes, this went on for several minutes until I gave in like a b****. All jokes aside customer service was not good from the manager I think his name was Mike or Dike or dick or something, can't remember. I went with my bf for some Christmas shopping. Everyone who works here was nice and helpful, once I asked for some help. I guess my complaint is more about the design of the interior. The place feels like a maze. There are some of the tallest clothing displays I have ever seen. There were so close to each other that you had to squeeze in between them. I felt like I was look up and maneuvering around the store the whole time. All the clothing seem to be scattered all over the place. Instead of have all the sweatshirts in one place, they were scattered around the whole store making in impossible to know if you saw all they had available. read more

This place is huge! Super helpful staff and plenty of inventory to choose from. I came in for a snowboard wax and ended up surfboard shopping after breaking my last board in indo. They patiently worked with me while I sorted through almost every board they have until I found what I liked. Oh and their huge selection of wetsuits were on sale. Great place! Great staff! After going here about 20 times in the past few months, I've yet to be disappointed. The negative reviews must've worked because the wife and I both agree that they honestly have the best customer service we've ever experienced. There's always someone asking if we need help, been helped or how we're doing when we're there. They have an excellent selection of everything surf/skate/snow related stuff. The guys upstairs always know the equipment they're selling and recommend what works best for me. Prices always seem to be competitive too. If I had to come up with anything negative, it would be the front registers. They could use one more. Never really been an issue, just an observation. read more

My boyfriend got me a wetsuit and he got the wong size, but they did us a huge favor in exchanging it for what we needed and I am greatly thankful.... I want to change my review of this spot. I left some pretty nasty comments after one negative experience here, and now I want to update. I've been here multiple times since then and have had great experiences. The girls have been sweet, attentive, friendly, and helpful in picking out multiple outfits for different occasions. I love coming here for quick shopping or something specific. They are pricey, but they have a lot of cool pieces and a great vibe that makes it worth coming in. The store is kinda pricey but then again what action sports store isn't these days. The store is right by my house so it is close which is awesome. The staff their is really honest and chill. Gabriel was way cool today and helpful with what I was looking for. I will keep going back just due to their selection and most importantly their really chill and down to earth staff. I was impressed. I went in looking for fingerless gloves (which they didn't have) but the first guy I talked to was so good he reeled me back inside and I even walked out the door with a brand new pair of shoes. They have a sign on the door saying that masks are required, but fail to enforce it. At least 1 out of 5 in the store didnt have a mask. And there is no way to space out in that store. Even one of the employees didnt wear one. (He had it around his neck...) I understand that they have lost 3 months of business due to Covid-19, and they probably wouldn't turn anyone away because of a mask, but everyone has a social responsibility to prevent this virus from spreading. Even if San Diego cases are low. My 5-month pregnant wife needed a new bathing suit because of her changing figure, so we went in. I was happy to see they "intended" to enforce mask wearing. Otherwise I wouldn't have taken her in there. We decided to leave. I should've said something on the spot to the managers instead of writing this here. First off, let me start by saying everyone giving them bad reviews are wrong. These guys are super helpful, Super friendly, and super knowledgeable. These guys absolutely know there stuff. Hanger 94 has a huge selection in any thing you have in mind whether it be, surf, skate, or snow. I always find what I'm looking for at this spot. I went in one day to buy a pair of bindings and I took them out to the slopes for a day. Well one of the bindings broke which is not hanger 94's fault they don't make the product they just sell it. I was a little scared from reading some of these reviews to go back in and ask them to help me out with a new pair. When I walked up stairs and I was approached by one of the reps. He was just as bummed out as I was. It was almost like he felt my pain. He helped me out as best as he could. Even offered to switch them out for me for a different color being that I had bought their last pair in the color I wanted. I said no because I wanted something in orange. So he helped me out in contacting the manufacture and now were in the process in getting me a replacement binding. So just wanted to say thanks to them, you low other low star raters are wrong. I feel so at home when I go into this store and I definitely recommend everyone to check this place out. read more

DO NOT RENT SNOWBOARDS HERE. They have 1 employee who can work the rental system, so if he is not there you are out of luck. They also don't train their staff to know this. I called and was told to come at noon only problem is this very valuable employee doesn't come in until 1:30 PM so I had to way over an hour just to rent a snowboard even though they had many employees walking around doing nothing. read more

Have shopped at hanger 94 since they first opened. Have had good customer service to this point. But was bummed tonight when I called about a watch I had just purchased for Christmas. It has not worked correctly since I brought it home. Figured it was a battery so had it replaced. Still not working. So I Called and was told ya its on me as soon as I walk out the door. Pretty bummed because love taking myself and kids to this store to find new clothes and shoes. Even if the box isn't open or anything you will still get store credit. I bought shoes here I didn't even wear them because they were too small and I was in a hurry when i bought them so I couldn't try them at the time. I purchased a surf watch from them. After getting home and giving it to my brother for Christmas present we found out that it was broken. We called the watch company and learned that the watch was two years old and the battery was dead. When i took it back they refused to give me my money back all they would do is exchange it. I didn't want another watch from them that was two years old with a dead battery, for $135 i wanted a NEW watch. To me that sounds like a company that doesn't stand behind the products and takes advantage of the consumer. I would never shop there again. read more

It's a one stop shop for all your surf, skate, and snowboard needs. They carry plenty of top name brand surfboards such as Channel Islands, JS, Rusty, Lost, Firewire, Anacapa and more. They also carry good wetsuits such as Ripcurl, Oneil, and Quiksilver. The only issue I have that it's so far from the beach but if I'm in the area I always stop by to see what's on sale and pick up a bar of wax or two. read more
