Helpful and informative staff as we were not sure what to look for in shopping for the setup on our "wood-burning fireplace plumbed for gas." Got some pretty cool looking options for glass and ceramic log sets and felt less intimidated as the staff who reached out to us was also female. Left with the right equipment to seal the gas pipe with caulk and bought a damper clamp. Good experience! In the 15+ Years I have lived in the Temecula area, Hanks has been my go-to location for the hard to find or specialty tool, now I think they are just my go to for all items, I was recently looking for some basic building items 6x6 Simpson galvanized post bases and 6x6x8 lumber, OMG the box stores carried neither (how they can call themselves a hardware store is besides me? I asked the gal that was behind the counter at Hank's (they are always helpful when asked) where the post bases were and she gave me explicit directions and lo and behold they had them exactly where she told me but more importantly they had them!!! Been there 10-12 times and EVERYTIME employees are sitting, constantly and consistently They just browse the internet, and will shout across the room to you if you have a question. In fact, I don't think I have ever seen one of them come around the counter... so who even knows if they wear pants. When talking to them you can tell they have mastered condescending insincerity. The man in the back takes every opportunity to communicate his contempt for work or his job like he is a teenager having to do chores. They close promptly. Employees are out within seconds past 5, as you can tell they cannot wait to leave. Thier own disdain for their jobs is evident in their service. Product selection for wood trim and molding is amazing. Just prepare yourself that you are on the same level of door to door salesman interrupting their favorite TV show at home. read more

RUDE OBNOXIOUS !!!! The owner told me to have a man look at it to see what needs to be done ( the project I am trying to complete) and already recieved advice on from other hardware stores. But at HANKS apearently they can't and wont give advice and tell me ( as if I am not capable of doing it myfelf) , I should have someone else look at it for me and see what needs to be done. Went over to Hank's Hardware (Wed.) wanting to support a local business and needed to get the bottom portion of a door re-screened. Walked in and was greeted by a lady standing at the cash register, asked about the turnaround time to re-screen the door and was told 7-10 days. I told her that was fine I didn't need it back for another 10 days then was told that they "can't" do it and get it back to me by that time because the 7-10 days only counts Mon-Fri. (2 weeks to rescreen a (2'x3' portion) Come on. Asked if it was possible to talk to the screener she said "no" and it wouldn't matter anyway the answer is still 'NO and WE CAN'T" get it back on the requested day. Just then an old guy in the corner pipes up "You better check with the screener I don't think he re-screens rounded corners!" How did this guy get into the conversation? That wasn't even the part I was trying to get re-screened. The lady at the cashier only knew how to say "WE CAN'T and NO" and she represents the store! I definitely won't be back! This is the only business I have been to whose Customer Service is based on "WE CAN'T and NO". I left Hank's and drove over to ACE Hardware in Temecula (3-5 days counting week-ends) for 1/2 the price of Hank's includes for pet sceen vice normal screen material. The staff here is, hands down, the worst. I have been hung up on twice today. They make you feel VERY unwelcome when in the store. Employees act as though they do not even see customers, walking right by with no eye contact or acknowledgement in the hope that customers won't bother them. When addressed they almost whine the answer. Also, when a regular employee that works a specific area is out sick the others are totally unwilling to help. They say that "you'll have to come back tomorrow when he's here". That is unacceptable customer service. They are rude and lazy. read more

I've been shopping at Hank's for nearly 20 years. I thought I'd write a review because many of the reviews here are just plain false. They don't have great customer service. They never have, they never will. They don't care. Every one of those people has worked there since I started going there. That's OK. What they do have is by far the best selection of hardware on the planet, the best selection of hardwood in their lumberyard and the best selection of moulding in 50 miles. Here's the deal. This store is built for the trades. If you're in the trades (I have been) or you're knowledgeable like somebody in the trades (I am), you don't need their customer service. If you're not, go to Lowes or Home Depot where you can be gladhanded by somebody equally as unknowledgeable as you. That's why you're catching attitude when you come here, because you don't know what you want or what you're talking about. Hank's is not the trade's nursery school. Oh, and to the dumbass talking about why they give you a loading ticket if they're not going to help you load, that's not what a loading ticket is. A loading ticket lets the guy in the back know that you've paid for certain merchandise and he's free to let you load that merchandise up and leave. Saves you from having to carry 16' sticks of moulding up to the cash register and back out to your Camry. I'm assuming you're driving a Camry because you don't know what a loading ticket is. That said, I give them 5 stars for their merchandise and 1 star for their customer service. Their customer service and attitudes suck and they know it. read more

Worst customer service I can remember. This is my first ever review, but they made me do it. The only redeeming quality was the kind lady at the front desk. But when I asked one man a question he literally said 'what do you want me to do about it' and another man refused to even acknowledge I was standing in front of him asking a question. I found that Hanks has a good selection of hardware items and lots of floor personnel for excellent service. However I am furious that I got thrown out at noon on a Saturday and they are not open at all on Sunday. What a clear message to regular consumers to go to hell. read more

If you're a contractor and know what you want and what you want it for (and don't give a darn about friendly service with a sincere hello and thank you), Hank's may be good place for you. For all others, I would strongly recommend going to one of the big boxes. I moved to Temecula 13 years ago in the height of the boom and wanted to go to a local store. Over the last 13 years, the store has gotten consistently worse on customer service. They have passed the big boxes on intentionally avoided eye contact just so they don't have to help you. When you do finally get an older gentleman to help you, the service is adequate, but most are rushing through it and act like they are doing you a favor. The ladies up front are crabby and possibly used to work at the DMV. They NEVER say hello as you enter, even when they are standing there staring straight ahead. In 13 years, I bet I can count on one hand how many times a cashier actually thanked me for my purchase. If you think this is a small town, homey, good neighbor feel, think again. Hank has forgotten why he was able to expand and open all those other buildings. He needs to send EVERYONE to a good manners, customer service seminar. Hey, maybe they should just eat at Chic-Fil-A a few days a week and maybe it would rub off. I doubt it. As they say, you can paint a zebra to look like a horse, but it's still a zebra. Sorry Hank...you fell asleep at the wheel the last 10 years. At Least Lowes and Home Depot are back to "trying" to help customers. read more

I needed to replace the sides of some kitchen drawers and replace the brackets. I hauled my drawer in there, they measured the sides that were needed, had them in stock and not only showed me what needed to be done, but Hendrick actually replaced he drawer I brought in so I knew exactly what to do. Very great service, was in and out in a matter in minutes. We were at Lowe's last week looking for a fitting for our water tank, we stood in there for an hour and a half waiting for help. Finally someone came over, but he was just covering someone from plumbing who was on break; so he was no help. Walked in hanks, and we got our item and was gone in 15 minutes. read more

I purchased all of my base, crown and trim moulding at Hank's. They are my personal favorite place to find better options than your standard Home Depot or Lowes. This store has everything. lots of employees who are knowledgeable. Not sure how anyone can complain. My examples: I had a key made it didn't work they recut it for free it didn't work they walked out to my car saw it was old he took the key blank and adjusted the cuts to not go as deep because my key was so worn. The new key worked better then the original and they just charged for a single key. I needed a belt and gear for a pump I would have to drive to grainger otherwise but they had it on the wall. I needed a brush for a starter they had it in a drawer. I needed a valve to refill a horse water filler they had three types. I asked once to see if a part fit something in my car and they let me take it out to check without paying first. I go to home depot and they have a coil of hose for 12.50 and I need 2 feet they have it by the foot at hanks and it would have saved me over 1/2. Plumbing parts/fittings are stocked probably 3 times what Home depot has. I got a street L for plumbing rather then an elbow and another fitting that otherwise would end up to long so would have had to shorten the pipe. In fact I often need 3 fittings at home depot to make up for the fact they don't have the single correct one. I needed a 2 1/2 inch threaded pipe they had it and its not carried anywhere else and they had it. Are you kidding me. Ive been coming here for 20 years and never had a conversation with anyone other then I need a ___ and they help me. I am not trying to make friends I just ask if I need a part I can't find and they help me. If you need to fix something come here first you will save money and time. read more

The prices are a little higher than larger stores such as Home Depot but I believe that is to be expected. Horrible service. Went in today to buy some hardware for a cabinet and just saw a bunch of poor service. From the floor staff to the old lady at the cashier desk, all seemed miserable and hated thier job. No smiles, not even a "hello". When I asked for help finding my part the employee said "i cant help you, the guy that works in this department is off today so you'll have to come back tomorrow"...Really...wow! Then I watched as another customer approach an another employee about some screens that he had purchased. The employee was rude and was talking as if the customer was bothering him. I could see the discuss in the customers face. I could tell I wasn't the only one sensing the negativity in this place. I did end up buying a part which I hope is the correct one I needed, simply because I drove all the way over there. When I went to the cashier the lady just said "I can ring you up here"! No "hello" , no "how are you today"! I'm not one who usually really cares about customer service but this place just had a bad vibe. If you want to feel like your bothering people and see what people look like when they hate their job, then this is the place to go. Never again for me. read more
