Loved this tiny little shop. We walked past 3 times searching for it before discovering it was on an alleyway instead of the main road. But once inside!! This place was steady/busy during the early-dinner hours, and the server said at night the line is out the door until 4am! We ordered 2 pasties and they were both really good. The hotdogs looked good too, but the condiments had been sitting out all day. They even had a ton of groceries available for purchase and we saw a handful of people come in just to buy their flour. Small shop in the Temple Bar area, right down the street from Leo Burdock's. For anyone who has never had a pasty, they are handheld meat pies (think of small fruit pies or calzones in the US). While on vacation, we wanted to try all. the. things...so we only ordered one here to split as we made our culinary rounds. The kind and friendly worker recommended the steak and cheese version, so we gave it a go. There are many pasties already cooked and ready behind the counter and they were incredibly affordable and wrapped in a manner that it easy to enjoy on the go. However, since we were exploring more of the area, we asked if we could sit in the small seating area(she said yes). For some reason, it was roped off. It was a terrible seating area, TBH. Random wooden crates at odd heights and kitchen equipment taking up most of the space. Perhaps this was why it was roped, as they find a home for the gear? The pasty itself was good, but nothing special. We were surprised it was not served with a sauce or gravy of any kind to take away the dryness of the pastry. Perhaps we needed to ask for one. We would definitely try a different variety next time. In general, we like the casual vibe and affordable cost. You could definitely feed a large group pretty easily. read more

We had gone through hell in a handwheel to return to Dublin on the tram, following the most magical Cure show I had ever seen at Malahide Park. After spending a good hour-plus trying to find a taxi before saying the hell with it and walking the 20 minutes back to Temple Bar, the location of our Airbnb on Dame Street, I was hungry and needed substance at 1 AM local time. I may have been tired from traveling between tram and walking, but I required some good hot-served food. And by the grace of our glorious Bacondom, we found such food at Hanley's Cornish Pasties. Located only two blocks from Dame Street in Template, Hanley's offered my first-ever Cornish Pasties I've ever had in my life, and they were splendid and sensational. I was impressed with how large, filling, and bursting with meat and goodies the pasty contained. The guys behind the counter were accomodating and patient as I tried to make my order quickly before anyone else appeared behind me. Being a Baconist, I ordered the cheese, leek, and bacon, as well as a steak and cheese. They were magical and hit the spot at 1 AM as my stomach was rumbling with rampaging rage. I was quite full and in a food coma afterward, but that didn't matter to me as a human individual. This shop is located down a pedestrian alley in Temple Bar; we actually ended up looking for it because the nearby pie shop is still closed (COVID). We tried two different pasties - I had the cheese, broccoli, and sweet corn, and my partner had lamb & mint. With both, the pastry was great - no leakage, crispy and buttery. The cheese and broccoli in my pasty were good, but the corn was not as flavorful as expected - but maybe that's because the pastries were so hot and I was gulping it down! My husband says the lamb and mint was also good, had plenty of meat, plus the pasty staple veggies (also in the other one): potatoes, onions, carrots. It was raining when we stopped by, so we huddled in the doorway - there's no place to eat as yet. I love this place. Its one of my favorite places in Dublin and during my one week trip I must have visited this place a handful of times. The pasties here are delicious. My favorites were the meat and gravy and the peppered steak. I think the prices range from 3.95 to 4.95 euros. They open really late into the early morning hours but by the end of the day there is less variety to choose from. The one negative about this place is that it doesn't take credit cards. Thats probably why they are able to keep the prices low. If I ever lived in Dublin I'd eat here everyday! read more

Hanleys is well, Hanleys. It's a hilariously small and equal parts awesome Cornish pastry shop right in the middle of the Temple Bar area. For touristy-folk, it's by the river, center of town. As the place is so small, it's actually quite hard to write a review focusing solely on a takeaway place that is probably not much bigger than the average bachelor pad at best. That doesn't mean that their food doesn't represent - it does, and well. Food choices are actually vegetarian friendly, but of course that doesn't necessarily mean healthy. We had a potato and cheese pastry, and it was delicious. I have no complaints. Very inexpensive, as well. This also happens to be right near an intersection where people are always trying to sell something or play music, as well as a number of other interesting places like the pie shop. All in all, this was a great place to just stop by and pick up a pastry to walk around with. read more

You know a place is serious business when fans build a Facebook page for it. Long established on Dawson Street, Kevin Hanely debuted the latest outpost of his Cornish Pasty empire in Merchants Arch, Temple bar in December 2009. Already legend amongst hungry Trinity students (the brains behind that facebook site), these flaky pastry pockets of rich, savoury goodness are a welcome addition to the fast street food already on offer in Temple Bar. The shop itself is perfect for a flying lunch -barely more than a brightly coloured open air cove in the narrow hall of Merchant's arch. A few seats crowd under a single wall-mounted table and a large coffee machine hulks by the register, but the most space is devoted to keeping Hanely's wide selection hot for passers by. Never tried one before? Keep the training wheels on with a traditional steak and onion pasty -wrapped up tight in golden pastry. AMAZING DRUNK FOOD. I've ended up at Hanley's on several occasions. Perfect for big drunk groups because if someone doesn't want a pasty, you've got burritos right there next to them. I've had the traditional, the Dubliner, the Chicken Tikka, the lamb and mint, the steak and gravy... Everything I've tried has been really good. The crust is flaky, the filling is nice and hot, the service is quick and the prices are right after a long night in Temple Bar. Seeing as my life revolves around the Temple Bar area, I was very surprised I hadn't noticed this place before. And it was just on the day I wanted something diffrerent. There isn't much choioce on offer, maybe 5 or 6 different pasties but the smell grabbed me by the scruff and dragged me inside. I ordered one of the large traditional steak pasties and oh...my...God! Each mouthful of meat, pastry, onion and turnip was seasoned perfectly and a party in my gob. The pleasant spanish guy behind the counter said I'd struggle eating it all which I doubted but he was right. 10 minutes later, I was a happy yet stuffed Slim. As an Irishman, I'm genetically incapable of refusing a novel way to eat stew. That's basically all a pasty is, handheld stew. Hanley's pasties are pretty tempting too, golden crusts filled with chunks of meat and veg. They're surprisingly filling and cheap too. Just the thing if you're looking for something uncomplicated (i.e. feeling lazy). The place is strictly a grab-and-go spot. There's a couple of token seats, but you're better off taking your food with you to fuel a trip around Templebar. read more
