The friendly girl at the express register was super nice. All was going well. She offered to put my groceries into the (1) paper bag. I said "Sure why not?" So I get in the car and while driving I saw that the (Hannaford brand) milk was in the bag - sideways. :-( I got home and the milk had leaked... Store was unkept, items shuffled missing, store itself sticky and dirty.., prices outlandish... pasta-roni boxed pasta noodles are usually a dollar and at some places under that- here they charged over $3 same with simple box of pasta or microwave rice and yogurt. I stopped here due to traveling and staying nearby. Man what a ripoff! Even Whole Foods is cheaper. Would never return- quality was terrible as well so not worth the price. read more

I food shop every Monday at Hannafords on Route 22 Pawling NY , I went to the Deli Department waited a couple of minutes then an employee came out and said can I help you I said to her a Pound of Genoa Salami sliced this Please. She said we are closed I looked at my watch it was 5:32 p.m. I said at 5:32 p.m. your closed. I found it odd that a Deli department was close so early. It was disappointing. read more

On a recent after work evening, I came to pick up some custom cut steaks. The butcher was taking his break. No problem I waited around 15 minutes. When the butcher came back from his break, he proceeded to serve a customer who arrived after me. I didn't make a scene, but after he served that customer, I asked him why he took that customer before me. He sheepishly said - "it's been really crazy." Very disappointing service. read more

I come up from Manhattan take a cab from the train station to Hannaford. The last time I was in the store the refrigerator section along the deli department was out of service, so there were no sliced meat cheese on that side of the store.. I came up on Tuesday of this week a few days before the start of the big holiday weekend. The deli department closed at 3:30.. I was told by a gentleman behind the counter that it was because a lack of staffing so Hannaford's not only lost the sales from that area of business. We ask customers were not able to do any shopping. I was looking for a rotisserie chicken and some deli meats I had to purchase the ones from the pre-package pickles section at the end of the meat counter not exactly how I shop. I have asked the butcher why the chicken special packages are so large. I'm a single person. I don't need to buy such large packages. I have limited freezer space couldn't they accommodate the customers with a smaller quantity? I was told that was the way it was done. I won't even begin to tell you that the produce department is unfortunately the worst part of the story.... There were about seven ears of corn as she walked in on the front display I don't need to find the produce clerk to refill if there was any backstock and if they have it, they do bring it out that's if it's in the back, but it appears no one is monitoring the volume that's on the shelves. It adds time to the whole shopping experience for me to have to wait for them to unpack a crate and refill... when I say other cashiers or store employees walking around the checkout area, not assisting in packing customers purchases, I don't come to Hannaford's to bag my own groceries. I think the district manager is at the store and take a good look at the things I have mentioned in this review.. personally I would like to come into the store and feel like I was walking into a grocery store where I would like to shop unfortunately I only have this option. I would prefer not to have to bring things up from Manhattan because the quality and availability is so much better. read more

I am new to the area and decided to check out Hannaford. This store has a nice large parking area. The store is moderate size with a little of everything. They don't have all brands that I would like to purchase, but what makes this store stand out is the meat department. There beef and pork are excellent quality. The prices during their sales are incredible too. Josh the butcher manager is a great butcher, super nice, and knowledgeable, and always ready to assist. Shout out to the manager at Hannaford's in Pawling, NY, today. I ran in for a few items and picked up a floral bouquet. I wasn't sure of the price, so the cashier scanned them for me. When she told me what they were, I said "oh I don't want to spend that, you can keep them".... not that they were crazy expensive! So, at the end of the cashier's area, waiting to bag for me, stood a manager. She said: " take them anyway!!!.....they're on us!!!"....and taught the cashier how to do that. How thoughtful. Honestly, horrified. All New Yorker's are required to wear masks in public amid the continuing pandemic (https://www.governor.ny.gov/news/amid-ongoing-covid-19-pandemic-governor-cuomo-issues-executive-order-requiring-all-people-new), but apparently that mandate doesn't apply at Hannaford! I was food shopping and saw a mother walk in with her two daughters approx 10 and 14 years old. None of them had masks on and the mother made it a point to say out loud several times that she was aware she didn't have a mask on as other shoppers were clearing away from her. Meanwhile, her kids were running around in the produce section picking up various produce and putting them back down as the mother completely ignored them. No masks, in the produce section, randomly picking up and putting down produce. It was as if they were deliberately trying to make a scene. I brought this up to someone in the cheese section, she just said "yea, they're supposed to wear a mask" and then she walked away and went back to stocking the cheese bar. I approached the pharmacy counter and the pharmacist told me there was nothing they could do about it and she told me to go to customer service. I went to customer service and the manager literally shrugged and said it's not a law it's just a mandate. I told him, yes it is a mandate, which means he has the authority to ask them to leave or at the very least offer them a mask and ask them to put it on (there were boxes of masks stocked in the pharmacy section). He said "What do you want me to do, ask them to wear a mask?" saying this as if I was being ridiculous and I told him, yes I literally want him to ask them to wear a mask because I do not want to get sick, I don't want others to get sick and he, as a manager, by not acting on the authority he has to protect others is literally putting the other customers at risk. He stared blankly at me and then said Hannaford is a corporate company and Hannaford has decided not to take action in these circumstances. I told him Hannaford may be corporate, but this Hannaford is in NY and according to NY, it is a mandate that everyone must wear masks in public. I told him I understand if he asks her to wear a mask or asks her to leave and she refuses to do so then it's out of his hands, but the least I expected was for him to make this request on behalf of his customers. He said, "What do you want me to ask them to wear a mask?" And I again said, "Literally, YES! Ask them to wear a mask. You have masks in the store, offer it to them." 10 minutes later the mother had a mask on....but still not the 10 year old or teenager. I love Hannaford's but I guess I'll be going to Acme from now on since they at least post signs on their entrance telling shoppers to wear masks and I've never seen anyone in there without one. Better to shop safe where you feel healthy, then to risk getting the virus and spreading it to others. read more

Honestly horrified. My husband just shopped at this location. We are 11 months into a global pandemic, mask mandates have been in place for a long time, so the fact that there are customers casually walking into the store with no mask on, many customers wearing masks incorrectly, AND the fact that the cashier PULLED DOWN her mask to speak to him is absolutely offensive. The fact that when my husband phoned the manager to let them know his complaints they said "there's nothing we can do about the customers not wearing masks/wearing masking incorrectly because we don't want our staff to get into arguments with customers" is beyond pathetic. The only way we will ever get through this is if we work as a community to all pitch in to fight this virus together and when large businesses such as this fail to uphold their end of the bargain they are doing a massive disservice to the public. Received terrible service this morning. First i came to the register and no one was there. Light was on. I wasn't sure should I take my groceries out or what. Waited, waited. Then a woman shows up and asks me to ring a customer who came after me, ahead of me bcs he only has grapes. I said fine no problem. That took about 6 minutes for one grapes. Then shes apologizing to a customer behind me and completely ignoring me, like it was all my fault for her unprofessionalism. I wonder why i received such treatment Not going back. I'm adjusting this Hannafords rating from 1 to 5 stars. Every time I've visited this business since my initial 1 star review (which I left while standing in line) this location proved me wrong. The employees here are all very friendly and courteous people who have represented Hannafords quite well AND kept the lines managed in quite an efficient manner as well on all other visits. I'm thankful for the smiles and good attitudes at this store as well as the fact that they do indeed seem to care very much for the customer. Have to say, am disappointed in the Pawling store. They took out the meat counter in front of the butcher shop. I did lodge a complaint with a manager. I told them, where are the thick cut chops or steaks? etc? I reminded her that, "out of sight, out of mind" That I do occasionally shop at the store down the street and when I might see some good looking pork chops, Oh, let me grab a couple of those. Not happening at Hannafords. Next, I was informed this last week, that as of Feb. 7th, they will NO longer be offering Western Union. I don't know if that is just Pawling or all of their branches. But, if I have to go to another grocery store to use their Western Union counter, why would I drive back to shop at Hannafords? read more

Here is a supermarket in the Pawling-Patterson area that is paying attention. Clean aisles, fresh produce, no expired stock on the shelves , real sales, fair regular prices , a diversity of items , no off-brands , responsive staff when you have some minor question or issue . In short, everything that the dumps down route 22 in Patterson and Brewster that took an A&P and made it worse , is not (hard to imagine but it's true- exactly what they did, made you wish the A&P was still there!) . It would be great if Hannaford would take the upstate Wegmans model and turn their place into a superstore with lots of takeout items , in store eating, bigger natural foods aisle but ok, I get it, space is more limited (expensive)here. They do a great job with the space they have. Well worth driving a little north. read more

5.7.2015...was there to stock up and it was packed...Its a great store...the customer service desk people are over the top..never a problem..so different from other SUPERMARKETS IN AREA...prices are good...beef and meat is great...cold cuts are ok..close to quality of Boars head and cheaper..produce good also...Fish is so so...but better than local supermarkets in area..all and all the service and quality is superior to all around... read more

I like Hannaford because it is only 10 minutes driving from my place....No, seriously. This is one of the reasons but certainly not the most important one. So, I like this place because it is not too big where you need to walk some miles till you finally find the product you need to buy but you can still find pretty much everything that you need. I especially love the lovely cakes that they sell - they have a nice variety of different kinds (even gluten free!) so if you think of where to buy a birthday cake this is a right place to go. On the whole, the supermarket has nice warm atmosphere and nice employees willing to help when needed. The reason I cannot give 5 stars is that the prices could be a bit lower. read more
