My favorite deli in the area, Vinny himself is always good for a smile and nice greeting. Their steak margherita was featured on the Food Network about a dozen years ago, and that was my go-to for years. I do, though, like sandwiches and have been up and down their board a bit. Today it was the Raging Bull. Look at that roast beef! Earlier in the year (for the Super Bowl, I think), a great little platter worked perfectly that evening. A year or two earlier, they offered another platter to sync with the Masters (I'll add that pic if I find it). They're good with socials too, announcing specials that have caused me to run out for lunch! But, again, it's the sandwiches, and the mozzarella balls. Man if I could go back to those first few times and reorder the Steak Margarita, I absolutely would. It's outrageous. Not too much meat, the perfect amount in fact. I set out on a venture to your deli that people recommended. (I drove 30 minutes to get there so I could try the food bc I was planning a party to be catered. ) So I ordered an eggplant parm on a roll and my wife ordered a VIN-FIL-A along with other items I purchased. As she almost ate half of the sandwich she claimed her mouth was on fire. It was LOADED with black pepper, which she did not ask for bc she is allergic to it. WHY were we not asked if we would like salt and pepper on the sandwich??? When she went inside to remark about the sandwich to Stephanie (the manager) she said no problem what else could we get you? My wife ordered roasted beef and it was fine until... she charged us another $10 !!! In my entire lifetime of ordering at deli's wether it be sausage, egg, and cheese on a roll OR a turkey sandwich, the first question to the customer is " Would you like salt and pepper on that?? What ever happened to the customer is always right?? I walked out of there spending $50 and still got charged. She could have simply said we add salt and pepper is this ok? Nonetheless, this was our tirst time there, and with that experience it will be our last. A very dissatisfied customer !! Ps the eggplant was also loaded w black pepper but luckily I'm not allergic. To call this is a "deli" is a polite mistake - this is an experience not to be missed. We were in town looking at houses to buy and hit the jackpot with lunch and a great converstaion with Vinny himself who not only us made feel like family - he fed us like family. If the order taker asks roll or wedge - act like you know and go with the wedge - you won't go wrong. Had the steak margarita special and eggplant parm - both were superb. The steak sandwich was the star of the show. But the mozzarrela is the show stopper. Vinny offered us a fresh slice and I was in heaven, but to then have It melted over the softest bread and the best sauce and whatever you choose to have piled high in between is fantastic. The olive oil in the tortellini and artichoke heart salad was of the the highest quality. Forget looking for our dream house we hit the jackpot and found our dream italian take out spot. Run dont walk and if you are looking for a fun day trip during the long covid winter its worth a trip up to Pawling - arrive hungry and plan to leave full. Gave this place a second chance, won't be giving it a third. Lettuce on one sandwich was literally just chunks of yellow ends, and the eggplant was incinerated on the other. I took one bite and noticed a really off taste, breading on the eggplant was black. To see that and think.... Sure let's serve that, is beyond me. Obviously their fresh mozzarella made daily is a must but we've tried several of their sandwiches, cheeses, bread, to-go meals, etc... and one thing is just as fresh and delicious as the next. As an Italian who grew up going to Arthur Avenue, I really appreciate the authenticity Vinny's deli brings to the area. There's no comparison within miles & miles. This place is gross. I worked in the food industry for years and taking a glance into this kitchen made me sick. No one was wearing gloves while assembling sandwiches.
