It was interesting to read about the history and back story of the cemetery, & get some education about Athens history. They also have a war memorial for those in the cemetery who died in various wars, from Spanish-American War to the present Iraq & Afghanistan Wars. There is also an ash mausoleum. There is even a section roped off for babies, stillborns, and young children (from 1970s through 2016). It was sad, but so beautiful to see how loved these children were. Some headstones (of the cemetery in general) were from as recent as 2016, while some were as old as 1890s. Even the older headstones were as readable as the more recent ones, and the grounds were very well-maintained.

There are not enough good things that I can say about my family's experience at Rader. My father…read moresuddenly and unexpectedly passed in an accident, so none of us were mentally prepared to be planning his services just days later. What made our experience so special at Rader was the coordinator/director that we were paired with, Leward. We came to the funeral home for the first time to view my father's body and to meet with Leward about arrangements and getting paperwork signed. He was able to read the room perfectly. We were all extremely overwhelmed considering we were all in shock, but he guided us with compassion and patience. He explained every step of the process clearly and slowly. He even made us crack a smile or giggle when appropriate. He did not aggressively push any of the funeral home's services or products on us. We explained that we wanted a celebration of life at our home, and he understood and helped us determine what additional support we would need for the event. He texted us to check in on us leading up to, and even after, the celebration, and assured us that he was there if we needed anything. It was extremely special to have the support and kindness of Rader, and specifically Leward, during the most difficult time of our lives. He made the whole process simple and pleasant. My family is incredibly grateful for our experience at Rader Funeral Home and recommend it to anyone that is looking for comfort and support when a loved one passes.

It is August 16, and still it is not done. Every time I call up and ask for Shanda I'm told she's either on the other line or not in the office. I've left several messages for her to return my call but to no avail. I am in the process of filing a complaint with the FTC, Better Business Bureau, the Attorney General's office and may go as far as hiring an attorney. When I finally got in to make arrangements they were more interested in selling me jewelry than anything else. Did not offer to help with an obituary. Made me sit through a slideshow of what they had to offer as far as jewelry and services. Mom had a prepaid plan and all the guys I talk about is what a great deal I was getting. Mom had her plan for 38 years I'm sure they made money. Would not recommend this to anyone still waiting on death certificates. Three weeks my mom laid on a table at their mortuary and they didn't bother to tell me They didn't have a death certificate yet. Took me 10 minutes to get it. Worst experience ever. I will never get over the hurtful feelings I have against this company. All they care about is how much money they can get out of you
