He said he would have the car safetied and repaired until it's passed safety included in the price of $3,200. During the test drive me and the person I was with noted that there was a broken spring on the passenger side (clunking noise when turning wheel). He said he would have it repaired, and did before I drove it off the lot. The repair however was what you may refer to as a 'cheap out', where he only replaced the broken part and not the equally aged part on the opposite side (springs are sold in pairs). That other spring later broke and needed to be replaced (although I replaced both) During the year I've had the car I've been under the impression the body is in pretty good shape, there was almost no indication of rust so I was initially happy. I later found the guy had spray-painted directly on top of rust in order to hide the rust and turn the car around. In December 2015, I purchased a certified used Jetta. My local mechanic found that it failed the safety. The hoist crushed the rocker panels in a couple of spots as it lifted the car and shocks needed replacing urgently ... My uncle, horrified when he drove it, paid for the repair ($800) - all before the 30 days of the safety certificate expiring. I had visited the dealership a couple of days after the purchase to address the issues, but was dismissed within 20 minutes - they disagreed with me and my local mechanic's assessment. Be wary of the she-wolf dressed in sheep's clothing, she got me good. 3 years prior, I went in for a rear indicator light that was out, because I was going through Chicago the next day. Simple? I needed a part that they did not have, but instead, they returned the car having not reassembled the lights and with an additional bulb missing. I had to ask for the bulb back and reassemble it myself.
