5 stars - Outstanding LASD CCW training with Hansen Firearms Training I recently completed my initial 16-hour Concealed Carry Weapon course with Hansen Firearms Training for my Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department application, and it was an excellent experience from start to finish. The classroom portion was thorough, well-organized, and engaging. The instructor did a fantastic job covering everything required under the current California standards while keeping the material clear and practical. What stood out most was the hands-on instruction on the range. The instructor took the time to teach proper firearm grip and handling techniques drawn from his prior professional training experience. These methods made a noticeable difference and helped build real confidence with the firearm. The Long Beach training location was very convenient for me living in Lakewood. Scheduling was straightforward, the process was efficient, and everything needed for the LASD paperwork (Certificate of Completion and Shooting Proficiency Standards form) was handled smoothly and professionally. Overall, this was high-quality, no-nonsense training that prepared me well for the qualification and the rest of the CCW process. I did his initial online 16 hour ccw classes and it was very thorough. It really helped to have the online class to accommodate my schedule. I highly recommend taking Ben's CCW course. The course is very educational. Ben makes the class engaging by sharing personal stories instead of just reading slides. Although we weren't able to practice firearm retention on one another due to covid protocols, it was helpful to watch Ben demonstrate the movements, and being able to practice the moves by ourselves. Initial CCW applicant review. Do not feel any bit intimidated about going to Ben's CCW class. Ben is an excellent instructor and is very accommodating. I took his one day CCW class with a friend, and we both left the class with a lot more knowledge than expected. I cannot compare to other instructors as this is my first class, but what Ben taught in class and at the range were practical things we could encounter in real life. Ben has great stories to share and everything he shares feels applicable to when you get your CCW permit. I don't think I would be able to review another instructor as I'll be coming back for my renewal I look forward to his advance courses once they are available. This class was awesome!! Really informative about all aspects of carrying concealed. From clothing, firearms, holsters and the legal side of it. Ben was great. Good stories, wish we had time for more. The scenarios he posed were very relatable. And the training outside the class was really fun. My class had 9 people in it, and it was prefect. We were able to ask lots of questions and really go back and forth on the topic at hand. The range was even better!! His instructions were clear, precise and fun. Ben is truly a great instructor with a calm, easy-to-follow demeanor. After spending the day taking his class I am confident in recommending him for anyone looking to not only qualify for their CCW but also learn how to safely carry. This class was awesome. Due to COVID, we did initial CCW training class in one day, which was great. We watched a few videos prior to class which were informative. The instructor, Ben, is super knowledgeable and hilarious. He's extremely helpful as well and has responded to all of my emails pretty quickly given how busy he is. The bar and my expectations had already been set high. Once I took a course from Ben, that bar and those expectations had been more than exceeded. Out of all of the Trainers that I have worked with, Ben is by far my most favorite. Not only was he very knowledgeable across the board regarding all of my questions, he addressed my wife's questions in a manner that I have not been able to do, that being with patience, understanding of where she was coming from, and why she was asking the question. Firstly, Mr Hansens course is among the most reasonably priced of these in Southern California but it -- IN NO WAY -- does it stint on quality or abundance of material and training. Mr Hansen's CV is impressive and it comes across in his teaching of the class. He communicates all facets of this with authority, necessary humor, and cheerfulness. He does not talk down nor condescend and answers all questions with patience and clarity. You leave the class with a clear understanding of what your rights and responsibilities are as a CCW holder. One of Mr Hansen's great strengths is his ability to communicate -- both in and out of the class. In my run-up to the academic session, Ben took the time to inform me what I would have to do to qualify and prepare. His frequent AND PERSONAL emails were a great help in my matriculation. His CCW course is complete, comprehensive, enjoyable and most importantly puts emphasis on what you need to know to carry successfully once approved. Frankly, I don't know why is class cost so little, for everything that he provides you including a holster and tactical training gun, he could easily charge $100 bucks more! This is the only place you should go for your required 16 hour course. Ben has a unique teaching style that mixes professionalism, humor, and a pretty unbiased point of view. He doesn't tell you his opinion on things unless you ask. This is absolutely commendable. He wont try to steer you in any direction to be against or for something. He has a "This is how it is." kind of approach. Again, he will tell you his personal opinion if asked. He keeps his power points lively, so there's no need to worry about the infamous "death by power point." Make no mistake, he doesn't just offer this course, he offers many other advanced courses for follow on training which I plan on signing up for once I finish up this semester at school. Also, he's not some douche either... He's a totally humble, easy to talk to, and down to earth guy. This is great considering this mans extensive background. I recently completed a firearms training course taught by Ben Hansen. It was outstanding. Ben is very personable and makes the class interesting. It was a long class (as required by law), but he kept the course moving along. From his sharing of personal experiences to his knowledge of law and training - I would highly recommend Hansen Firearms Training to anyone looking to develop their knowledge base. This applies for beginners to the more advanced. Ben's approach to class was very balanced. By this I mean that he kept it serious when necessary but wasn't above adding humor here and there, which was much appreciated after a long day.
