Wines being tasted and for purchase as of Feb 2021

Amazing cabs, and plenty of them! A tasting usually consists of around 10 open cabs, and they're all delicious! It's hard to decide which to bring home, so we joined their wine club to make sure we get a chance to keep enjoying. Bruce is such a character. His wines are great, and it's a welcoming place to visit. Dogs allowed, outside food ok, easy to make reservations by phone or email.

Skylar and Pat! Dog friendly winery with exceptional wines. We love the owners, Pat and Bruce, and the wine!

Exceptional wines!! This winery is #1 on our list every time we come to Paso Robles for wine tasting. The owners are very personable, wines are excellent. We highly recommend!

Handsome little boy. Named Jules. Dogs are welcomed here.

It's always tough for me to do a winery review. I leave all the wine notes to those who have exceptional palates. But, this was a new winery for Mr. B, and it seems it surpassed his expectations. So, Mr. B joined yet another wine club. Guess it was too good to step away. Plenty of awards and medals adorned their displays. And even I loved the wine. The 2010 Marquis Zin, 2009 Limited Release Cab, and 2010 Reserve Cab were all exceptional. I guess for a relatively non-wine drinker, I have discovered one of my passions is for Zin. And Hansen's really got me started in the right direction. Meanwhile, I am less of a socialite than Mr. B. So I left him sipping and schmoozing, he does that well, while Lilly-pup and I spent time enjoying the view of the vineyard, walking through the charming winterized herb and rose garden, and socializing with the winery dog. More my speed. Something for everybody. This is a small boutique winery, a fun little getaway, with humble excellence and gracious, welcoming vibes.

This is my husband's favorite winery. While we were up visiting our friends in SLO, we decided we'd go wine tasting. Since my husband was so excited about Hansen, we had to stop here. The look on his face as he arrived was like Christmas came early. I'm pretty sure I've got wifey points to last. When we arrived on a Saturday at 2ish, there were no people other than the owners and the people who worked there. This proved to be interesting. I should've known if my hubby loved this place, it was cab heavy. I can't do cabs because there's some enzyme in them that gives me an instant headache, no matter how expensive and wonderful the winery. I abstained from all cabs for this reason. So I tasted the zinfandels. They don't have buckets to dump wines. Let's be honest, wine drinkers are in a couple of camps: actually taste and dump or drink it no matter how badly you hate it because it's wine. I only tasted the zin's but it would be nice if they maybe swished your glass with some water to clean it out between pours. Whatever, the girl gave me chips and wine without charging me. I was ok with that. The very cool thing was the owner, Bruce, took us back behind the scenes. This was the funnest experience. We were invited to taste out of never opened barrels and metal barrels. We were able to see how they lifted wine barrels, how they destemmed grapes and all that fun stuff. Bruce kept asking us girls to taste the grapes, to pose with everyone and generally have fun. We hung out for a couple of hours and had a blast. The entire experience felt VIP and for that reason, I'm giving it 5 stars. I'm more of a girl who enjoys the Napa wines, but you will get a personalized and very awesome experience here. My husband of course ended up with packages of wine to go home, so I'll enjoy his delight with this winery.

If you want to experience Cabernet in a way you never have before you need to come to Hansen! Bruce creates stunning cabs that you can drink anytime with anything. When you go it's more like you are a friend drinking wine with him and learning his process! We love it there!

I absolutely love this place! The Cabs are amazing, and the owner is always great company, knowledgeable, and an awesome guy. This is a must stop in Paso! Was just there today :) I like the wine "Jessie" the most!

Bruce Hansen in his element - hosting a wine tasting.

People. You have no idea what you are missing. Bruce is what I would call a hospitable curmudgeon. If you are not a serious RED wine drinker, do not stop here. If fact if you are not a SERIOUS Cabernet Sauvignon drinker, do not stop here. If you have never spent over $50 on a Cab, do not stop here. You are wasting his time and your time, too. Bruce now ONLY makes Cabs. Bruce Hansen has the best, the best, the best Cab in the land. Cab like you would want all your Cabs to taste. Pricey - far less than highly touted Napa and Sonoma Cabs which are inferior to Hansen. Bruce has had multiple blind tasting events over the years and his Cabs always beat Napa and Sonoma Cabs. The bonus is the bumbling show that Bruce performs when pouring. Bruce has asked people to leave his tasting room JUST FOR ASKING WHERE IS THE DUMP BUCKET. THERE IS NO DUMP BUCKET. We saw him toss out two Midwest couples who wanted to drink sweet white wine and made faces when drinking red wine for probably their first time. We tasted 8 Cabs during one tasting with a revisit of each of them. This is a NORMAL tasting at Hansen. Then Bruce invited us back to the barrel room for a tasting of four barrels of one vintage. Each barrel had a distinctive difference in type of wood and processing the staves had gone through. On a later occasion, we accepted Bruce's invitation for barrel tasting and I must say after three hours of tasting Cabs, I could still distinguish between 6 vintages. 14 barrels were sampled. Check out his photo: https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/hansen-vineyards-and-winery-templeton?select=2VQA5ZOhov0qWPwsHI1jWQ Yes, we are wine club members and have six years of various vintages in our cellar. To the moron Yelpers who gave this place a 1 star review, thank you. If your ignorance and prejudice keeps just one person like you away from Hansen then you have done Bruce Hansen a huge favor. You are clearly not adults, but whiney malicious children who need to continue slurping Red Bull and boba drinks. 5/2017 Update: Bruce Hansen is celebrating his 75th birthday this month, stop in and wish him many more.

We entered The Cab House and were greeted with "well I hope you're ready to taste some cab because we have 9 to go through" like music to my ears.

The place is very busy. We opted for a wine tasting with lunch. They offered 5 wines and proper tasting pours. When we were seated, water was quickly served and we ordered their House-made Sourdough Focaccia which was served with lavender butter and lavender salt. That was very tasty - the lavender butter and salt worked well with the bread. My wife ordered the Duck Confit and I ordered the Bucatini Pasta which featured Mighty Cap Mushrooms. The sauce was very rich and flavorful. The pasta was cooked properly, and the mushrooms were just so good. The Duck Confit was similar - the duck leg was cooked properly, and worked great with the Heirloom tomatos and plum, all of which sat on a wild rice salad. You can skip the wine tasting and order drinks or wine off the menu if you want. Take a moment to walk around the grounds, look up at the ceiling work. They have have a shop with some neat winery stuff. Staff and service were excellent, and the menu and the food were outstanding!

They do not offer complimentary bread service. Bread is on the menu - House made sourdough focaccia with lavender butter. It was so good, totally worth the price. Slight crisp on the outside, spongy interior, but chewy from the sourdough gluten. Hint of sweet in the background. Butter is light and aromatic. This amazing dish is just the bread. Roasted Chicken was tender with a light sauce. Pasta with mushroom sounds simple but it was yummy and perfect. For wine tasting, they offered a complimentary welcome taste of Pino Rose, light and refreshing. The tasting had 4 wines, my favorite was the 2022 Reserve Chardonnay. It was buttery and smooth. The building, scenery of the vineyard hills, and the flower garden were all beautiful.

But alas, we finally made it happen, and we had such a great experience. The tasting room is beautiful and grand, it was so cool to hear about the building and how it was restored. Tastings are by appointment, which you can book and schedule online. When you arrive the gate is closed and you buzz in to let them know you're there, so I probably wouldn't try to just walk in. As we approached the tasting room someone met us outside with our first taste of wine, such a nice touch. We sat inside at one of the comfortable couch settings, but they also had bar seating and bigger tables larger groups. You are also able to take your wine outside and explore a little bit, which we did. We noticed other groups with dogs, so they are dog friendly even inside! We were helped by Taylor who led us through the tasting, which was already set up and ready to go at the table when we arrived. Even though the wines were all out, she stopped in as we worked our way through them to talk about them a bit more. Including the welcome pour when we arrive, the tasting menu had 2 whites and 3 reds when we were in. We ended up trying a couple other wines that weren't in the tasting, and ended up getting bottles of the sensibility from the menu and a zin that was and off menu pour. Would absolutely come back here for an elevated and sophisticated wine experience that doesn't feel stuffy at all.

The tasting room was named one the top #19 wineries in Architectural Digest (August 2018) in the WORLD! And #2 of the top #19. Now that's amazing and well deserved! Lacey was our tasting room host and she was wonderful! She knew all the history and well described the wines. She didn't rush us and encouraged us to relax, wander around, and enjoy the tastes. We were on the fence about one of the wines, and she offered us an older vintage so we would know how it would taste in 10 years! That worked! We were very impressed with their wines and they definitely sell themselves! The inside is very roomy and comfortable. There is also seating with nice views, should you want to relax outside.
