Where do I start with Tealy and Greg? How about a funny story, that takes their family back to Southern California and Poway, where I grew up. Little did we know that we lived about 10 minutes apart, found this tidbit out a in 2025, while talking to Tealy, who makes the experience at Barr second to none! This has been a favorite stop of my girlfriend, who has been a long time wine club member with Barr, from her days of driving limos for wine tasting, she always talked highly of their wines. Greg does excellent wine, across the board, from a simple Albarino to a more complex Cabernet Sauvignon or 6950 (Referring to the address of the winery), one of my favorites from Barr. The club is wonderful, where there are no added yearly fees, just good wine and discounts on wines, complementary tasting and private tours. One of the few destinations I really enjoy visiting off 46 east. The tasting room is co-located with the production facility, as you drive up through winding vineyards onto the property. The tasting room has indoor and outdoor seating. A small, bar with additional couch seating is available, while there are various Barr related items for sale. Behind the bar is where the magic is. The tasting lineup is very strong and if there are additional bottles open, you could receive a splash of something different. For me, it was the 2013 Grande Finale. Not a big dessert wine fan, but this excellent. I don't believe this is a single wine in our collection, since I've been introduced to Barr that is bad. The entire lineup is exceptional and there is usually something for everyone. for those cooks out there, I do recommend some of their olive oil. Devine! As of this review, I know they are trying to retire... again from the wine industry, hopefully Greg and Teally hang around for a bit longer, they do an excellent job when it comes to wine in Paso Robles. This gem was not originally on our itinerary, but we decided to pop in towards the end of their tasting room hours. We shared a delightful flight of six red ($20 fee waived with the purchase of one bottle). All six were awesome. It was an intimate setting with a no frills tasting. The winery owner was also present and very knowledge. The white varietals and sparkling were not available this time around. We'd definitely come back when we're in the area. read more

Walking up to the winery - a huge grin was on my face as they had primitivo vines out front. The winery is off the beaten path and has amazing bold red wines. Susan was our host and was friendly and attentive. We also had the opportunity to meet the wine maker and his wife who were absolutely wonderful and funny. All the wines we tried were delicious. The 2019 Celestial Delight, Malbec and Tannat were our favorites. We loved the wine and the people, thus we became members. Can't wait to come back! read more

Barr is a gem on E46. It's generally peaceful and lovely put on the patio especially when the wisteria is in bloon and providing shade. We'll behaved pup friendly and the owners are lovely. Barr is a great visit for lovely Paso wines with a focus on reds. It does have albariño and rose but primarily reds. We have stopped at Barr estate winery several times while up in Paso Robles on vacation. Their Albariño wine is fantastic and so are their other wines. We were recommended by Penman Springs to try this place out. This place was a nice hidden gem for red wines. It said by appointment only on yelp so we called to see if we could drop in. The lady said yes. It was empty when we arrived. It was a Thursday around 2pm. The owner is from New Orleans. They have outdoor and indoor tasting. The Cabernet, Jubilador, Malbec, and Grenache rose were all good. But we loved the Cab that was $28. $15 tasting fee but waived if we bought a bottle per tasting. We bought 3 cabs to-go. It's that good, bold, and smooth! Give this place a try if you love reds. You won't be disappointed. One of our favorite wineries besides Calcareous and Penman Springs. I think you can maybe bring snacks if you sit outdoors. I didn't see them sell food. read more

Our second time to visit Barr Estates and we thoroughly enjoyed it again. Their Albarino is smooth and refreshing, and one of the reasons we wanted to visit Barr Estates again. We really liked their rose from Malbec grapes. Tempranillo, the Jubilado (a cab blend), and Petite Syrah are all wonderful. Love that the tasting list had recommended pairings. We were very excited to visit Barr Estate Winery. It is a quaint place with a low key vibe. All of their wines are fantastic. I love that it is a family owned and run winery. My parents became members and bought a case of wine. I also picked up 3 bottles. They are all fantastic but I do think their Malbec is something special. I hope you stop by and try them out. Fairly new winery making some excellent wine. The wife and I wanted to check out some new places along with old favorites in Paso, we decided to focus on the eastern side as we often go west. This is truly a boutique winery, the only folks behind the counter was the winemaker, his wife and their daughter. Sweet and nice people, no hard sell on the wines just letting speak for themselves. We are not big white wine drinkers but the '10 Albarino was quite refreshing, the perfect picnic wine. I believe it is a Portuguese grape that was crisp and perfect. The reds were great as well. We bought a bottle of the '07 reserve Cab, also tried the regular 07 cab which was excellent as well, but the reserve was that much better. The Jubilado was a blend ofPetit Verdot and Cab and was yummy and jammy. The 07 malbec is delicious and we didn't try the reserve Petit Verdot as it was still being bottled. Finally they have a port called Last Act that was everything you look for in a port, sweet good alcohol content and warming to the insides. That's all they have, but everything was done well and the people making the wine were nice, what more can you ask for. read more

What a great place! The price for a bottle and the quality of wine cannot be beat! The owner is one of the servers and is easy to talk to. There story of one day going to Argentina and deciding to open up a winery is the American dream. They are from New Orleans and it was nice to hear there stories. Atmosphere is nice, small to have good service, and an awesome grapevine mounted on the wall. Now the wine! Their passion is Malbec, it's probably in about 75% of the wines and they do a good job with it. Again their prices and quality of wine is a must. I left with 4 bottles under $100 which is such a great deal. I will be definitely be back to enjoy the southern hospitality and to see what else they are doing with Malbec. Salute read more

Sometimes you just have a feeeling about a place... We will be back because I believe this winery will be one of the standouts as their reputation spreads. They are only a few years old, but are placing some unique wines on the bar along with the staples. Their winemaker (a UC Davis grad) has done a marverlus job across the board. Usually you're lucky to find one wine or two out of 10 that you like at any winery, and 4 or 5 on the same bar you really would never give a second thought. Not here my friends. Every wine they poured resulted in the four of us getting more and more agitated as we realized that we wanted to buy a bottle of every wine they poured. This wine was ok, nothing special but they are getting two stars because of their customer service. There were 6 of us who visited, and we are all in our 30s. Apparently, we were too young to receive proper service as we watched the other guests get served around us, all who happened to be a quite bit older than us. They didn't tell us about the wine, and gave nasty looks when we asked to revisit wines. I'm not sure if they just assumed we weren't going to buy anything, or what the deal was, but it was quite frustrating. read more

For me, Barr Estate Winery is one of the best in the Paso Robles area (the other one is Broken Earth). The owners work the tasting room and the wine is great in my opinion. We tried and bought the 2009 Malbec, 2008 Jubilado, and the 2009 Petite Sirah (we tried others, but could only take 3 bottles with us). The tasting room service is excellent and their wines are again, excellent, so much so we joined their wine club. read more

Stopped in based on all great Yelp reviews. It definitely lived up to the 5 stars. They have a very diverse tasting list with many interesting wines.
