the atmosphere here is really great. being international/chinese, I was pleasingly surprised that the owners(maybe) were chinese. But most people here were from English speaking countries. That combination just made the cafe tht much more comfortable for me. I am in love with it. I highly suggest the chilli avo toast. Its got just that tiny kick to the creaminess from the avocado, which that give a whole avo, along with the crunchy toast. Just amazing. The black sesame cake is another must try. The sponge is so airy, combined with the black sesame cream between the layers, the cake just melts into soft goodness in your mouth. Black sesame goes suprisingly well with pastries, its got creaminess but also a little bit of bitterness and a sweet aftertaste. Kind of like the seed form of chocolate? kind of. read more

I came to Hanso with a friend to do some work, and the reviews looked good. When we walked in, there were a lot of people, but we were able to find seats easily. There is a much more seating than one would expect for a cafe, which is good. I ordered the avocado toast with an egg, which was 5.50€, and my friend ordered the avocado toast with salmon, which was a little less than 10€. By the time we had ordered, people had left from the larger comunal study table, so we moved there and were able to spread out a little. The food came out pretty quick, which was nice. Both of the toasts looked aesthetically pleasing, and the slice of toast was pretty large. Surprisingly, the avocado was very flavorful with some kind of seasoning mixed in, which I enjoyed. I think the toast was some kind of whole wheat mixed bread, so very healthy. The sunny side up egg was cooked well, as some people can mess that up. Overall the food was pretty decent for the price, but nothing spectacular. The thing that was kind of weird about the place to me was the feel of the cafe. Half of the staff are Asian men, the other half Spanish, which I found interesting. There were a lot of baristas at the counter, definitely more than needed, and it was easily visible whenever they were on their phones. To me, it just seemed like the male workers needed more training on how to be profesional in the work place. However, I did really appreciate how one of the taller baristas stopped his work at the coffee bar and came around to the front of the counter when a street seller came into the cafe. He watched the seller move around to the customers, and I could tell he was ready to intervene if necessary. Also, I appreciated how the music was only played by the coffee counter, so it was not blasting and distracting while studying. Although the cafe has random spurts of customers, there is always space to sit. I do not know if I could come back to the cafe, but it is a place to stop by at least once. read more

This cafe is on the list of many, many blogs about Madrid and while I loved the walk to this non-descript cafe, I did not enjoy the coffee in the cafe. Situated in the Malasana district of Madrid...this cafe is clearly popular and brimming with people packed in like sardines waiting for their lattes. When I entered I was sure I would leave pleased - why else would so many people be willing to wait in such a line and in a crowded area, if the coffee was not good? However, I was misled by the cover of this book. The latte I got was cold and the beans had been burned. I would have tried some of the food, but the line was so long and the wait to get my coffee had already been more than 20 minutes, that I wasn't interested in waiting another 20 minutes to get something to go with my already cold latte. So I left, disappointed by this overhyped cafe. read more

I had the Green Tea Latte, Ichigo Shortcake and Toast with Cheese. These 3 items were delicious. The Green Tea was not too sweet nor bland just the right flavor. The Ichigo Shortcake was so light and full of flavor absolutely my favorite cake! I wish they had it in California. The Toast with cheese was very flavorful. I will come here again if I ever come back to Madrid. The owners were nice. The minus star is for taking awhile to get my food maybe 15 minutes or more of waiting time on a day that wasn't busy. The cake was already made so they could've at least given me that first... even after getting my latte it took awhile to get my toast with cheese. read more

I liked the cafe. Prepare delicious and the prices are normal. Only long had to wait until served, waiters are slow.

Love their vegan salads, especially the avocado ones. Tasty toasts with avocado and tomato and egg. Coffee is splendid. They maintain this bathroom well. The only precaution I have is to be aware of staff higiene. Make sure you watch them carry your food to you without sneezing and not washing their hands, because one waiter sneezed on his hand and continued to proceed to serve coffee to a customer without doing anything about it first. There is a rule that on weekends customers can't sit at any table they wish with their laptop unless it's at the big long table. I didn't know until I arrived and the whole place was empty, except, ironically, for the long table which was full of people and their laptops. So I couldn't stay even though all the other tables were empty. read more

WOW. I had read about Hanso and was hoping it would be as amazing as it was hyped up to be. I wasn't disappointed!!! I came straight from my train from Barcelona and ordered a matcha latte and an eggs Benedict on a bagel. The bagel was perfectly crisped and an amazing balance between sweet and salty. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the hollandaise was TO DIE FOR. I've had better matcha lattes but overall it was a really delicious meal and I would definitely recommend coming here for a coffee date or to just sit and read. read more

The coffee here is hands down some of the best in the neighborhood. The food ranges from okay to pretty damn good. The only downside is the place itself. It's cozy at first glance in an industrial, concrete sort of way, but a lot of the chairs and tables are wobbly (seemingly on purpose?), which makes like things like writing difficult. Busy cafe with vegan and gluten free options. I had gluten free matcha waffle with caramel and cappuccino with almond milk. Both very good! The one thing I'd say is that I'd think twice about visiting again only because there aren't many seats and I noticed a lot of young people who were there before me working on laptops were still sitting in the same spot when I left. Normally, I'd think this is cool but I don't think it works with this place due to the heavy traffic it gets. People are literally waiting for others to get up from tables so they can sit down to eat. Since you order at counter and then wait for your food to be brought to you, people tend to hover over people waiting for a spot to open up. I asked for a table to be cleaned so I can sit in the only free table which was done quickly and I was able to sit immediately after ordering but before I could even finish my drinking my coffee a couple asked if I was leaving. Yet, the same group of students that had been sitting in cafe with no food or drink in front of them when I got there were still just working on their computers when I'm being asked if I'm done and ready to leave.
