This store has been here for years! Cute shop with a ton of clocks and some watches. Also, some other accessories, such as a pair of hand made wood earrings that I purchased for a friend. Service is just how I like it, no pressure, "let me know if you need help". The prices are on par for what he carries, including for being in a tourist town, so that is nice. One thing that brings back memories of my Grandparents is Coo coo clocks. Since I was young I've always loved the intricate designs and the sound of a coo coo clock every hour. I have always wished to own one myself. Having friends who were in Germany ship me one was far too expensive. While wandering around solvang I happened to see this little shop, almost hidden if you're coming from the opposite direction. Upon walking inside I couldn't believe my eyes! All the coo coo clocks I could possibly want! Imported from Germany! I wanted them all! I honestly didn't even realize there were so many designs because all of the ones I had seen were the same type of designs. So many incredibly gorgeous clocks! Catherine was so sweet in allowing me to just admire the clocks and turned the hands so I could see what the coo coo sounded like on various clocks. Choosing a clock was hard I loved all of them so much! Catherine assisted in finding the perfect one. I appreciate her so much, she was one of the sweetest people I encountered on this trip. I appreciate her patience with me as I chose my perfect coo coo. I was never rushed or pressured during the buying process. This shop is so amazing from steins to coo coo clocks and jewelry it's definitely a family favorite shop here in solvang. We will return to this shop if we end up back in this cute town one day. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. I have never felt so inclined to write a negative review. My husband, son (5) and I drove up from Los Angeles to spend the day in Solvang with the intention of stopping by the clock shop to buy a cuckoo clock. It was 2:30pm and we got to the clock shop and the door was surprisingly locked, but people were inside. The shop closed at 4pm as it stated on the door, so we politely knocked on the door to get someone's attention to open/unlock the door. The man behind the counter made eye contact with us, then looked down and simply ignored us and went about his business, as if we weren't even there. We stood there and waited politely, then tried knocking again and he wouldn't give us any attention or even unlock the door. if he were to be closed a simple "sorry we're not open anymore" would've sufficed. We were so baffled by the blatant rudeness from this man we couldn't believe it. There were 3 customers in the store and the store hours stated open, but he wouldn't open the door for us. It was so bizarre. Stay away from this place -- they obviously hate children. read more

We met Chris, the owner, and he is not only one of the nicest but also undoubtedly the most honest shop owners we've ever met. My grandma and I came in with for a watch battery replacement. After trying to fit the correct battery for my grandma's uniquely sized watch that had stopped working, he came back just to tell us that it didn't even need replacing at all. This review is about 10 years overdue. On our visit to Solvang, we stopped in to visit this wonderful clock shop. The shopkeeper was friendly and extremely knowledgeable. We purchased a few things and one of them is a whimsical wall clock to fit a small space on the wall. To this day --10 years later, the awesome little clock is still working great with the swaying chimney sweep and boy on the pendulum. We made a stop in Solvang while on our road trip to San Francisco. After lunch we roamed the streets of charming Solvang and the boyfriend and I walked in here to take a peak because I noticed a beer stein in the window of a monk and also noticed that they had those Dala horses in here. This place is small yet packed with amazing clocks from all over. Lots of Cuckoo Clocks in all sizes. Even if you are not looking for a clock and are in the area you should pop in here. The owner was a little quiet. She was not a very welcoming person. Not sure if she was annoyed that we were lookers and not buyers. But, I am sorry.. I have no need for a clock nor a beer stein but they are fun to look at. Especially when the beer stein is $$. I wanted to ask why are they so pricey. Perhaps it's the material used or the fact that it could be an import etc etc. But, I figured I would keep my mouth shut and just observe quietly. I must say that I am a curious person and always have questions about things! Knowledge is power but in here I just rather go home and Google why are "beer stein's" expensive and why are Dala horses expensive. The shop happened to be closed that day so we weren't able to go inside. But through their display window, we were able to see all the awesome goodies they had inside and vowed to return to the shop whenever we found ourselves in Solvang. Fast forward, 3 years later, still not having retuned, I phoned Catherine and she was able to send me the stein, not the one we saw a while back, but one that was similar. This was the first time I bought a cuckoo clock and they were both very helpful, the clock I wanted they sold out of so i asked Cris if there were any other clocks in my price range he showed me 2 other clocks. I picked out the one I wanted and Katherine went in back to get the one I wanted she opened the box and saw that one of the parts was broken on it, so she went and got another one she opened that one and looked it over to make sure nothing was broken.she took it out showed me how to take it apart and what to do and how to put it together. Before she put it back in the box for me Cris told her he would like to look at it and make sure it sounded right and was good to go. The clock came with a 4 year warranty and they said that if anything happened or I had any questions to give them a call. I have purchased a few clocks from Hanson's including two cuckoo clocks. Recently, one of the cuckoo clocks was making a terrible sound. I emailed Chris and sent him video of the sounds. He tried to diagnose the problem and told me how to fix it so I would not have to send the clock to him. We were unable to repair it so I sent the clock to him. He did not charge me for the replacement of a governor's box or any labor! My clock now sounds wonderful. I would recommend this place over Pebble People, the other clock shop. I found Hanson's much friendlier with a larger variety of cuckoo clocks at slightly cheaper prices for the same clock. Definitely a little gem in Solvang! Found myself humming Pinocchio's theme song (totally not PC) and it occurred to me Solvang must be the perfect place to find a cuckoo clock! I was definitely not disappointed. While it may not be the largest shop, Hanson's definitely has the largest variety. From tiny cuckoo clocks and large ones, there's a clock for everybody. Catherine was very friendly and took the time to explain how the clocks worked and the differences between many of them. We eventually found the perfect clock behind the door and we're definitely pleased to hear it was also on sale! So don't be afraid to enquire. After purchase, she packaged the clock in the original box while explaining the different mechanisms of the specific clock. Each clock comes with a 4 year warranty. My husband wanted to walk in to check it out. There were tons of wall clocks and cuckoo clocks, but also had German beer steins, jewelry, and watches too. My husband ended up buying a classic style watch by a Danish brand, Bering. We never heard of it until we came here. The lady explained to us a little about the brand and let him try a few different styles. This place is amazing! Most helpful! It's that lovely time of year again when it's time to move the clocks! I went a whole half a year with my cuckoo clock chiming the wrong time. I was not willing to go another minute with the wrong chime! So I called these lovely people where I purchased my little clock. Catherine answered the phone but she was busy and asked if could call me back. So I gave her my number and she promptly called me back. She patiently assisted me while a proceeded to get the correct time on my clock. After two attempts (because I can't tell time) I got it!!! Stopped in Solvang, CA on my roadtrip to Santa Barbara and came across Hanson's Clock Shop. Passing by it caught my eye because of all the wonderful cuckoo clocks. I popped in to check them out and I asked the women working that day, Catherine (who is also one of the owner's), if she had any winding keys? She immediately said yes and went to grab one for me. When she came back I told her why I needed it and how I came across some clocks that needed repair and were missing their keys. She kindly gave me a key and a little girl on the swing which was also missing from one of my clocks for free. I tried to pay her for both items but she refused. I am so grateful for her help and kindness. I will definitely stop back in her shop in the future and if you are in Solvang I encourage you to give Hanson's a visit too. You won't regret it. I live in Ventura and my mom and I and my daughter went to Solvang to drop off my cuckoo clock to get repaired on November 7th 2015 they told me it would take 6 weeks to repair I called after about 8 weeks to see if it was ready for pickup and they said no it would be ready in three more weeks and they would put calling I never received a call and I called and they had not started and the Cuckoo-Clock at all I am very angry they never started and I will never go there again!!!!!!!! read more

5 Stars for Hanson's Clock Shop!!! My wife purchased a 4 tiered Christmas pyramid in Germany in the early 80's. It hasn't been operational in many years. She is battling cancer and I was determined to get it working this year. After watching a YouTube video about adjusting the pyramid, it was clear that we were missing the nylon bushing. It was Chris Hansen from Hansen's Clock Shop that did the video. I reached out on a Sunday and spoke with Catherine Hanson. She was extremely helpful.
