I ended up asking the owner for some advice on how to get started in the local waters. He was incredibly helpful- not only did he recommend a specific spoon spinner, but he even took the time to show me the best way to cast and retrieve it for the river. This place is definitely a local gem. Whether you're a regular or you're like me and somehow managed to leave your tackle box at home, it's a great spot to drop by. Great service and even better advice!

Kayaking the Russian River is something I've had on my to do list for years. This summer, with the…read moreriver still flowing nicely well in to July, I decided to finally make it a priority for a weekend adventure. In reading, Yelp and other reviews all signs indicated that King's was THE place. I had stopped in the shop during other trips to Guerneville to check out their outdoor clothing and accessories, so I was familiar with them. I had decided on what's labeled as their Trip #2 on the website which is a 5 mile kayak (self guided) from Johnson's Beach to Monte Rio. I called and reserved a tandem kayak about 4 days in advance and was given a few options of a start time. I choose 11 am since we were driving in from the East Bay and didn't want to leave home too early. They were super friendly and helpful when calling and made sure we understood the trip details and were booking the right package for our skills and needs. A credit card number is required to hold your reservation. We arrived closer to 10::30 and luckily found parking on the street right near the shop-I was worried about that on a summer Sunday but maybe getting there earlier helped. The girl who checked us in was super knowledgeable and made sure she showed us a map of our route, which includes a small section where you need to get out of your kayak and walk it about 200 yards around the dam to circumvent it and then launch back in. We were provided a dry bag, paddles, kayak and life vests. They have you walk a few blocks down to Johnson's Beach and they meet you there with the kayak. This year, after the 2023 rainy winter, the river was flowing nicely-we had a mostly smooth paddle down the river. For quite a while we had quite a bit of solitude and it was so peaceful and lovely with the river and redwoods. Things got a little busier towards Monte Rio beach and downright chaotic as we had to navigate hoards of people swimming with no situational awareness of our kayak and others coming through. It was a relief to get past it and get our kayak to the boat launch. You call Kings as you approach Monte Rio to schedule your pick up. They were there for us to shuttle us back to Guerneville within 5 minutes of us leaving the water. I had the most wonderful day out on the river. We saw lots of water birds and turtles and for the most part it was a very serene trip, Highly recommend Kings and would 100% use them again. They know the river well and gave us advice about certain areas and seem like they truly love what they do!

I made a reservation for 6pm on the deck as it had seatbacks and my husband has a bad back and can't sit on a picnic table. It's an elevated section above the beer garden, which that night had a singer with guitar. Service was pleasant though a little slow with drinks but they were pretty busy. We both had margaritas to start, which were $16 plus $3 for call brand so $19 each. Pretty good but not too strong. I then had the Hopmunk hefewisen beer which was only $8, much more reasonable. I had the Biergarten cheeseburger on a pretzel bun, cooked perfectly medium rare. Served with caramelized onions, bacon, smoked Gouda and a beer cheese, it was tasty but pretty messy! Cost was $23 plus I subbed a kale Caesar for $2 which was good but not worth the hype as a little dry. Husband had the grilled mole chicken with mole sauce and Spanish rice for $24. It was a large portion with two pieces of chicken and he enjoyed it. We then saw a show in the stone tavern next to the beer garden. It's an intimate venue with not a bad view in the house. We had seats because my husband is disabled so we're right in the front row. Otherwise it was standing only. Great acoustics and venue. I would go there often if I lived in Sebastopol, as it's right near the Barlow and downtown. Definitely recommend for food, entertainment and atmosphere.

The outdoor space is huge and definitely the highlight -- great place to hang out for a long lunch or drinks. Service was attentive and everything came out quickly. We ordered the burgers, wings, and pickle fries. The burgers were massive, though a little dry even with all the sauces loaded on. The wings, however, were excellent and easily the best thing we ordered. The pickle fries were the miss for me -- house made, which sounded promising, but there was barely any actual pickle inside. I'd skip those next time and just double down on the wings.

And, I have had terrible problems with my lower back including a recent 6 month stint in a wheel chair. So, I was nervous as I started to look for someone who could hep me drop some weight and get in shape. Hector (and his team) are particularly non-judgmental and very helpful. It took some time to get into the groove of visiting the studio twice a week. But, in the end, that's the formula for a slow, patient success. I'm never going to be Joe six-pack abs, and never want to be. But I do need to be in much better physical condition. Over the course of this first year, we focused in strengthening the muscles around my lower back to take the strain off. As that started to get better, I was able to begin a gentle weight loss process. Hector is particularly great at making accomplishment possible by offering support, guidance (gently) and a great set of properly maintained and appropriately adjusted machines. I am a very happy customer.

To my surprise I always want to go to my schedule appointment, even though I have avoided most exercise regimes all of my adult.

His deep knowledge of the human body and structure leads him to work on all related muscle groups, rather than just targeting the sore areas. He also can explain why your body is feeling the way it is, and can help you with ways to not feel that way anymore. And, on a side note, if you're a 6'1" 240lb guy like me, don't expect a light touch. Chris is able to get down to those knots and twists deep in the muscle tissue, which in my experience many therapists are unable to do. Aside from that, Chris is a very friendly, approachable, and like-able human being. I always enjoy my time there, often discussing the latest in movies or whats happening in modern spaceflight. Great conversationalist! I can't recommend Chris' services enough. Go on, make that appointment!

On a lazy Saturday afternoon, I visited and was promptly seated and served. I enjoyed a romaine salad, my son enjoyed the mac & cheese - his favorite anywhere - and I had a burger with fries. The burger came with white cheddar cheese and bacon, with chipotle ketchup, regular ketchup, and aïoli on the side. I had a glass of Chardonnay, and the wine list is what you would expect from a Sonoma County restaurant. By the bottle or by the glass you are assured of a good selection. Nothing you order here will disappoint you. The dining room is a rustic space with a lot of wood appointments. There's a nice long classic bar. Worth noting though: it gets very noisy. The menu offers an interesting mix of Thai and French cuisine - not quite fusion, but rather two distinct menus side by side. Think of it as a safe bet for groups with different cravings. The portions are decent and the prices are in line with typical Bay Area standards - not a bargain, but not outrageous either. Unfortunately, what brought my rating down to three stars was the service. For a relatively simple meal - oysters to start and one entrée each - the pacing was surprisingly slow. We waited nearly 20 minutes for our plates to be cleared, another 10 for the dessert menu, and after an additional 15-minute wait we ended up canceling dessert altogether, as the evening had stretched to two hours and we had a long drive ahead. To be fair, the tables around us seemed to have a smoother experience, so perhaps we caught them on an off night. I'd like to give them another shot, but I'm leaving with mixed feelings that honestly reflect a three-star experience - great bones, but the service needs work.
