Amazing service, atmosphere, and food. The roasted romaine salad was SO GOOD! It made me want to recreate at home Also the service was awesome, our waitress was so attentive and kind. There was even live music!

So I've come to hop monk Tavern before, but I've only really had their drinks. However today me and my friend decided to get food here. We ordered the buffalo wings as well as the steak and frites and their chicken Philly sandwich. The steak plate was pretty good and the wings were also relatively good. The steak does have chimichurri on it and the salad is really good as well or the coleslaw. I can't remember what it came with. The wings taste pretty fresh and they do give you blue cheese and ranch with them, as well as vegetables like carrots and celery. However you are paying $17 for eight wings just a heads up. My friend personally did not enjoy the chicken plate. She felt like the chicken did not taste fresh but quite frankly, we were unable to get our waiters attention throughout our whole time seated there so at the end, we decided to just leave it without saying anything. The service is the reason for the lower rating. I think the food was pretty decent, but the service was not up to par. Service here was mediocre. I will add that I do not say that lightly and I normally do not like saying that about restaurants. I normally understand when service is off if the restaurant is full however this restaurant was pretty empty. At first our server came around twice and then we ordered and once after she brought out the waters. My friend had to ask her twice to bring a lemon for her water because it seems that the server forgot, although from what I could tell, she was really only serving our table and maybe two others. When the food came out I asked if she could refill my water. She said she would be back with more water. However, she literally did not come back until 30 minutes later and that was after my friend had to flag her down and ask her if she could bring us more water. I should also say that this was after we had finished the entire meal, which at that point water was really not necessary. What really pushed the experience over the limit was the server mentioning to us when we were paying that she got off the clock early because it was so slow. Meanwhile I sat there wondering if this was the reason that her service was so awful. While sitting there eating, I did notice that in general service was a problem for this restaurant... I noticed another customer walked in and sat for a while and wasn't spoke to. When he asked them if they were still serving food, he was responded to rudely. I also noticed another customer asked in regard to the menu and another server told him that the menu was over there on the other side without giving any direction. Aesthetically speaking, the spot is really cute. There's a lot of lights. They have a lot of plants however, based on the service, I don't think I would come back here. My friend who has been coming here for many years was actually shocked at how bad the service was today and said that this was pretty abnormal. Who knows maybe it was an off day. Either way after being unattended for more than 30 minutes and ignored it didn't really leave any reason to come back here again.

Burger with beer cheese and kale salad

Stopped by HopMonk Tavern Sebastopol for lunch and overall it was a solid spot, especially with the beautiful weather. The outdoor space is huge and definitely the highlight -- great place to hang out for a long lunch or drinks. Service was attentive and everything came out quickly. We ordered the burgers, wings, and pickle fries. The burgers were massive, though a little dry even with all the sauces loaded on. The wings, however, were excellent and easily the best thing we ordered. The pickle fries were the miss for me -- house made, which sounded promising, but there was barely any actual pickle inside. I'd skip those next time and just double down on the wings.

This was our first time visiting Hopmunk in Sebastopol as we were seeing a show at their adjacent music venue, The Abbey. I made a reservation for 6pm on the deck as it had seatbacks and my husband has a bad back and can't sit on a picnic table. It's an elevated section above the beer garden, which that night had a singer with guitar. Service was pleasant though a little slow with drinks but they were pretty busy. We both had margaritas to start, which were $16 plus $3 for call brand so $19 each. Pretty good but not too strong. I then had the Hopmunk hefewisen beer which was only $8, much more reasonable. I had the Biergarten cheeseburger on a pretzel bun, cooked perfectly medium rare. Served with caramelized onions, bacon, smoked Gouda and a beer cheese, it was tasty but pretty messy! Cost was $23 plus I subbed a kale Caesar for $2 which was good but not worth the hype as a little dry. Husband had the grilled mole chicken with mole sauce and Spanish rice for $24. It was a large portion with two pieces of chicken and he enjoyed it. We then saw a show in the stone tavern next to the beer garden. It's an intimate venue with not a bad view in the house. We had seats because my husband is disabled so we're right in the front row. Otherwise it was standing only. Great acoustics and venue. I would go there often if I lived in Sebastopol, as it's right near the Barlow and downtown. Definitely recommend for food, entertainment and atmosphere.

I came here recently with my brother to see Bill Kirchen and Four Lost Planet Airmen. I gotta say this place impressed the hell out of me. First off, as I walked into the venue I realized I had forgotten my ear plugs. I went up to the bar and asked if they had any for sale. The bartender said I've got you, turned and grabbed a cellophane packet containing a pair of earplugs and said There you go, no charge. I was like, how freaking cool is that? They care enough about their patrons to actually try to protect their hearing. So then I walk down to the other end of the bar and, again my mind is blown. There, for everyone to use, is a water fountain dispensing cold, delicious water. And a stack of cups right next to it. I'm thinking Wow, at any other venue I would've probably had to pay a buck or two for the ear plugs. And probably would've had to pay $5 for a stupid water. But HopMonk Tavern ain't like that. They exude hospitality up in here. So anyway I was here for the music, so now Ima tell you about that. The performance space is a smallish room with several rows of folding chairs directly in front of the lo-rise stage. There is a standing/dancing area immediately behind the folding chairs. We were stoked because our seats were in the front row. My last name was attached to the back of our seats like we were damn movie stars or some kind of celebrities. Lol. I've been to plenty of shows with my brother but this was the first time we've had front row center seats. We were right on the central aisle dividing the seating area in two. As the show started I noticed the other side front row center seat directly across from me was empty. I thought that was kinda weird. Then half way through the first song a guy sat down in the seat. Immediately he looked familiar to me. He had on a baseball cap pulled down low and was sitting with his shoulders kinda scrunched up. It looked like he didn't want anyone to recognize him. I was trying to get into the music but I was kinda distracted trying to figure out who this mysterious guy was. Then I realized who it looked like. The dude looked like Nicolas Cage. I started thinking, wait, would Nicolas Cage be at this little tavern in Sebastopol, seeing Bill Kirchen? Well maybe. I mean, I don't know. Isn't Nicolas Cage from Northern California? For all I know he could live in Sebastopol. And Nicolas Cage is weird AF (I mean that in a totally complimentary way), I'm sure his taste in music is eclectic enough to include the music of Commander Cody (the band that made Bill Kirchen famous). So it went on like that. Every time I'd look across the aisle at the guy it looked like he was trying to sink down in his seat. His eyes constantly darted left and right like he was on guard. After a few more songs I couldn't take it. I had to know if it was Nicolas Cage. I mean, I wasn't going to say anything to him or try to get his autograph. I'm cool with leaving celebrities alone. But I had to know. So I pulled out my phone and did a quick Nicolas Cage image search. I found a good profile photo. I studied the photo and then turned to compare it to the guy across the aisle. Wasn't Nicolas Cage. Mikey C says: thanks for the hospitality HopMonk Tavern!

I really love this place. The ambiance is always friendly and relaxing, even during the busy concerts. The service is quick, thorough, & friendly! The food is always great. Some of my favorites are the fish tacos, the chicken sandwich, and the salads. They have an awesome happy hour with awesome selections. Today I got the Nashville Chicken Sliders and they are amazing. The chicken is crunchy & juicy, spicy & flavorful, and the pickles are sweet to battle the spice. Happy Hour or Dinner Date Night is the way to go!

Love the beer garden area. We are an early lunch. The service was excellent and the food and beer was equally as impressive. This is the first time we have been to this location, but frequent another location. Had the grilled ham n cheese with tomato soup. We also had an artichoke and a chicken Philly. Everything went as planned and we were very pleased. We attended during a dog adoption event, so it was also cool vibes to see all the dogs that have been and will get adopted. Liked the music choices playing as well. Overall A++

NUS opened for Jane Siberry. Percy on vocals, Rich on bass, Stephen on guitar synth, Ricky on drums, and John on violin.

We were at Hopmonk Sebastopol for the Jane Siberry music event. Had dinner before. We both enjoyed the Kale salad with chicken, which was prepared in a unique and delicious manner! The service in the Beer Garden and in the Abbey was terrific! We saw the opening act which was a band called NUS who were so amazing! Their version of God Only Knows was Mesmerizing! I hope they come back for another show! Jane was great as well.

I hope one day i can get back to 5 star review, but still not quite. We were waiting for our friends to join us so we got a couple beers and an appetizer, an item on the specials list called sausage bites, a shareable item, supposedly a mix of about 4 kinds of sausage and fried onion bits. I didn't realize To later they meant that even the sausage was deep fried, but there was actually so little of any sausage, it was a huge disappointment, but it was very nice the waitress took it off the bill for us, keeping stars up! The dishes came out, very nicely presented. We got the steak frites, the blackened mango salmon, and the Veggie Penne pasta with veggies and pesto. All three dishes were nicely done. One complaint on the $24 steak dish, was that the garlic French fries were mostly tough/ soggy, like they were done a few hours ago, lost their crunch, just sitting in a heat pan. The steak was about 3/4 inch thick, and about 7 or 8 inch diameter with a very tasty chimchuri sauce spread over it, and accompanied by a fresh cabbage and radish vinegar tossed salad/relish. The salmon was really nice over a bed of tasty asparagus done al dante. The mango curry sauce over the coconut rice on the plate with the salmon was not bad, but a little sweet to pair with salmon ($26). Tip: the radish salad with the steak would have been excellent with the salmon (well it was, we tried it!), maybe ad cilantro and lemon; white the asparagus that came served as a bed beneath the salmon would have also been perfect with the steak! The penne veggies were very tasty but felt it was a bit on the steep side, price wise, at $25, knowing the costs of items and the effort it takes to cook such a dish, and comparing the price to the obviously more expensive salmon and steak we got at nearly same pricing. The ambiance is lovely with nice ambient hanging colored lamp and Christmas lights etc all about, and 5:30-7:30 Fridays they have free live music with various musicians. There is also an energy of excitement as people are arriving in anticipation of paid live music gigs/performances coming up later that eve in Hopmonk's dance hall Abby. The service is friendly and attentive but a bit slow because there really could use one or two more waitresses on busy Friday nights. Darn it, i forgot take pic of steak!

Let's start with their amazing beer garden! It is outside but has a tent over it so it stays warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Dogs are very welcomed, so we like the woof friendly. They have 2 stages, one in the beer garden and one in The Abby. Live music every day of the week. The drinks are decent, food is good too- but I wish they would do more specials. Menu has not changed in a while so it would be a great change up. All in all, go check this place out, it's worth it!

I happened to hear about this place from someone I bought my car from and holy .. moly..... This place feels like it was made for me As soon as you walk in the bar isnt cluttered and looks fantastic, ill admit i didnt spend much time inside because once we saw the beer garden and..... WE FELL IN LOVE! I got the happy hour sausage bites, just wow! We also ordered the Steak+Frites and the meat was so soft. All it needed was salt and pepper but those are available at the table so you can add to your liking. Service was fantastic as well and our server, Andree, was honest and gave great recommendations for drinks and food. I got the happy hour beer (HopMonk Kellebrier) and my partner enjoyed the Dancing queen (Hibiscus infused gin cocktail). Thanks for the great lunch, we just got back from Anaheim and needed to relax and this spot was perfect with great food. Will be coming back very soon!

Hopmonk Oktoberfest on the left (Anderson Valley Brewery) and Paulaner Marzen. And that's Pepè in the middle.

    Happy Hour is every Mon-Thurs 2-5pm :)

    Is this a sports bar?

No, it's more restaurant and music bar than sports bar. There is a tv above the inside bar but if you want to watch and hear this isn't the place for you.

    Any non alcoholic beer?

We have bottles of Edinger NA or Bitburger NA, but no NA beers on draft. Hope this helps

I never waited in the beverage line for more than a few minutes. Food was ordered at the bar and servers ran it out. Several TVs inside along the wall, a large projector screen on the east wall, and a 65" outside all displayed the game. The sound was good too. I had no difficulty hearing the match over the noise of the crowded venue. Water was supplied next to the bar and was self service. It was constantly kept full. I never saw it empty. When the bar served so much it ran out of glasses they already had plastic cups available. Overall, great spot full of great people. Well done.

My wife and I had just visited Abbey Tavern this past weekend, a premier Scottish pub in the City, and we expected a similar atmosphere. However, the moment we showed up, we were met with great disappointment. The Goose & Fern is honestly a terrible place to watch a sports match: there was only a single TV mounted in the back corner of the restaurant, the TV wasn't particularly large, and the speakers had been turned completely off. What a bust. Although the food was decent, especially the Shepherd's pie -- which came piping hot in a small cast iron skillet, the service was downright dreadful and almost non-existent. We never received waters (or were even asked if we wanted beverages), our table wasn't given enough silverware, we were never checked on during the meal, and we were waiting around for 30 minutes twiddling our thumbs before somebody from our party finally went up to try to pay for the check. In hindsight, a tip was not warranted for the lack of service. Overall, Yelp grossly misled me on The Goose & Fern. This is not a spot I would stop by again to watch a sporting match. If you're in this part of Santa Rosa, do yourself a favor and head over to Dave and Busters down the street where they have a bunch of massive screens, tons of beer options, and service that will far surpass what you're getting here.
