This is a tiny spot with few customers. (Makes you wonder what really keeps them in business). The waitress wasn't all that attentive but she got the job done. The window was full of dying plants starved for attention (after the waitress pronounced one plant dead, my date took it home and revived it. She ought to open a Plant Rescue!) I ordered the General Tsao's Chicken because I just moved from South Florida where I saw plenty of Thai but no Chinese. Happy Buddha was above average. I say that only because I was desperate for Chinese food. So, I even took a little home for later. It was OK. I don't remember what my date ordered although I remember her description: "It's OK." (Our new mantra)? That was unusual since she's typically got plenty to say about everything. (You could point out a dead bug on the sidewalk and she'll honor you with a 65 minute soliloquy on the bug describing its tragic end and the life it could have enjoyed if humankind didn't stack the deck against it). Been going here for more than a year. I like supporting small local businesses. Sadly, the food has gotten less and less satisfying. General Tsao chicken - as much breading as chicken meat and meat tastes strange. Pad Thai looked good but no flavor. Cashew chicken - no flavor/seasoning - too much bok choy filler. Served these to guests before trying and was so embarrassed. Didn't even want to eat the leftovers. So sad. read more

See pictures I took of the menu I grabbed inside when picking up my dinner in November of 2024. Since there likely isn't much overhead costs since this place is mainly takeout-only, the food isn't too expensive for just how MUCH you get! Guys, it's so much food, I'm not even joking. We have gone several times for Chinese takeout food from here. They have mostly typical American Chinese dishes which are priced well and have good flavor. Tonight my dish was good, but my wife's was off. She ordered cashew chicken and it the sauce wasn't right. I called to see what may have been different and they said it was a brown sauce with soy instead of white sauce. Didn't really clear things up and my wife really didn't like it. read more

Located a strip mall, this is a very small restaurant, strictly carry out type of places. For those not in the know, Chinese restaurants are the only ones open for X-mas and they were very busy, running way behind schedule. As our order was for Christmas (and it was a big order, for 11 people), our order was one of them, by about 30 minutes. They were truly apologetic about it but nothing can be done. As far as the food, typical Chinese restaurant fare but really good. No complaints on the food at all. They forgot 2 of our dishes but when we called them, they apologized again and asked to come back so we can pick it up right away. So by the time I came in, it was ready. read more

Food was tasteless, i ordered wonton and hot snd sour soup which were pretty good, we had their house special fried rice which had 4 very small shrimps, a few slises of chicken and beef and a little egg, NOT WORTH what they charged, probably one of the worst fried rice i ever tasted., i had to add soy sauce to make it taste better. We ordered general chows chicken and orange beef, way too much breading and both were under seasoned. And last but noy least, The PRICES ON THEIR WEBSITE WERE NOT EVEN CLOSE TO WHAT THEY ACTIALLY CHARGED, the website said won ton and hot and sour soup was $1.25 but when I got there they charged me $5.00 as was all other food I ordered 50 % more than their website posted, when I asked the owner said he couldn't find anyone to correct the updated prices on his website. We got the chicken fried rice and Mongolian chicken, as well as some egg rolls. - Food: The chicken fried rice and egg rolls were really good, quantities are excellent and we had plenty for two people. The Mongolian chicken is a savory soy sauce based chicken with onions and peppers- while good, it's pretty heavily salted which didn't make it my favorite. Overall, a safe weekday takeout that's filling and satisfying without being overtly greasy. 4.5 - Value for money: Excellent value for money- we paid $25 for a large chicken fried rice, two egg rolls and a Mongolian chicken, which was enough for two people with some leftovers. 5/5 read more

Hands down the best American Chinese food you can get on the Eastside. All the portions are big, well priced, and consistently delicious. The owners (Shirley and Gordon), have owned the place for years and are awesome. Shirley is very friendly and kind, and is such a joy to see. Personally, my go to's are the Beef Chow Fun Dry, Szechuan Eggplant, and Sesame Chicken (the key is to ask for sauce on the side, and mix it up at home so it stays crispy!). SO HAPPY to find this place! Portions are large, ingredients fresh, dishes are very tasty, like my Dad would make (he's from the same part of China as the owners,). Especially mouth-watering was the Buddha Delight with a wide variety of vegetarian ingredients including tofu, thin mung bean vermicelli, sliced wood ears, baby corn, mushrooms and more with a light, flavorful sauce. The chow fun had fresh, thick chewy noodles, not the dried reconstituted kind that I've noticed several other Heights restaurants are trying to pass off as chow fun. I had wondered about this place for a long time and now I am a regular. Firstly, the staff obeys all the Covid related protocols. Everyone wears a mask. They also limit the numbers of people inside waiting for their orders. And, they have curbside pickup too. The food is delicious. Their Pad Thai is so good...it is made with custom levels of heat and with many choices of protein or vegetarian. My absolute favorite is Pan Fried Noodles. It's a HUGE container of broth filled with fresh vegetables and your choice of protein. In a separate large container your provided fast fried crunchy noodles to slowly add to the soup. You'll need a fork to eat it--it takes me about 45 minutes to conquer this wonder. All the lo mien dishes are perfect, as our the huge egg rolls. I plan to work my way through much of the menu given the time. read more

Both my wife and I had a phenomenal meal this weekend. It tasted like I remember Chinese food tasting when I was young. It appears to be new ownership or staff or something along with a new menu so I encourage others to give Happy Buddha a fresh new try. I ordered chicken chow mein for my wife... I am from out of town, so I don't know the Chinese scene in Cleveland, but this food was about as boring and underwhelming as it gets. Suggestions for improvement: 1. Develop some depth of taste in the sauce department. We could not taste the difference between three (distinct) dishes. King Pao should not taste the same as Szechuan. 2. Make sure dishes are served hot. Everything was just lukewarm. 3. Figure out the menu situation. If you are looking for "the best" taste/quality, this isn't the place. What it IS though, is the best Americanized Chinese value. I've gone to almost all of the chinese restaurants in the greater CLE area for the lunch special General Tso's at each establishment. This is by far the only one worth it. It is perfectly priced and never bad. My wife and I moved up here a few months ago and we have been trying to find Chinese food worth being excited about. Tonight, our search was over. We called ahead and ordered carry-out. I ordered General Tso's chicken and my wife had shrimp lo mein. The chicken had a great spice to it and a nice crunch. Sometimes you get this meal and it can be soggy, but not the case here! They were super busy and my wife waited for our order. She was really impressed because there was a man waiting for his food, sitting there before she got there. He was apparently waiting a while because the person who gave him his food did not charge him because he was waiting too long. Now that is customer service!
