I had to find a new podiatrist to assess and drain my infected foot due to Dr. Lords negligence.
    Lydia L.

My first time experiencing medical gaslighting was unfortunately here at happy feet. My foot infection went on longer than it should have and I sought for care elsewhere as the pain was unbearable. Turned out I had MRSA staph infection. I came to Happy Feet because of its raving yelp reviews and started seeing Dr. Lords for several months... And each visit made me doubt his level of care. My last visit on 9/28/23 was a confirmation that I needed to find a new podiatrist. I received my second steroid shot on Tuesday and it was very painful. At night, I woke up every 3 hrs in pain and the swelling was worse each day, I could tell something was off. Wednesday I emailed Dr. Lords pictures of my foot and he called me saying it didn't look like an infection. Thursday morning I called to come in because the pain was unbearable. As I was in the waiting room, I heard him make a comment to a staff member on how I was able to walk in if my pain level was noted at a "7". When he saw me, I explained how I wanted antibiotics as the pain was increasing. I explained that I felt sharp radiating pain on the sole and arch of my foot. He dismissed it and said it was because of the way I was walking that caused the discomfort. He continued to suggest it was a cortisone flare and made various remarks about how it wasn't an infection, "I'm 80% sure this isn't an infection but a flare..." I asked what my options were for immediate relief. He suggested soft tissue removal surgery and I was hesitant about it and inquired about other non invasive methods. He didn't have any for me. As I was about to leave, he spoke harshly to his employee. He asked if she took my temperature and told her to (as it was missing on the form). "Look at me when I'm trying to tell you something..." the words and tone used were very uncomfortable for me to witness as a patient, I felt so bad for her, I hope she finds work elsewhere. He prescribed me amoxicillin and when I arrived at my pharmacy, they said they haven't received anything. I called his office and the front desk staff said he hasn't gotten to it and that he usually sends them over at the end of the day (which would've been 5pm, I came in at 9am). I was livid and looked for a new podiatrist. I luckily got an appt the same day at 1:45pm, immediately the new Dr said it looked like I had abscess in the swelling and he drained it. There was so much pus coming out, he couldn't believe it. He said surgery wasn't necessary and I felt immediate relief on my foot and my mental state. My experience overall: -Each visit, it seemed like the treatment options for me were to have an expensive procedure, surgery or to buy products. I felt like he was pushing unnecessary things to make money. -He made inappropriate comments during the visit, ie he'd say jokes about the girth of the needle mattering more as opposed to its length, before he administered my first steroid shot. Who still thinks these jokes are actually funny? -He was demeaning to his employee right in front of me which I thought was very unprofessional and humiliating. -He scoffed at the level of pain I documented, I could hear him clearly comment on it to his workers as I was in the waiting room. -Most importantly, I didn't feel heard as a patient and his negligent care led my foot to being infected longer than it should have. I cannot imagine having gone the surgical route with him, and I am concerned to see his practice still operating if his behavior does not change.

Got another bill from this rip off place 3 months later!
    Alex K.

Just got another bill 3 months later. I think my insurance and I have paid over $1,000 for 2 office visits and about 10 minutes of actually seeing the doctor. No wonder they make so much money. Also they do not have their own X-ray machines, imagine that someone that needs to look at bones and tissue not having an x-ray machine, and will send you out to Placentia Hospital, which will charge your insurance $3000 for basic x-rays!

Dr. Rob Lords is my lifesaver. A true genuine Doctor that truly cares about his patients.

She has seen three podiatrists and an orthopedic surgeon in the past six months and none of them really did anything for her and none of them would give her a cortisone shot for interim pain relief. I called around to a half dozen local podiatrists and inquired about a cortisone shot for her if deemed appropriate. Dr. Paks office could see us two days later so we made the appointment. The office is located on the second floor in a low traffic building. There is plenty of parking and the main entrance is on the front of the building facing La Palma. There is an elevator to the second floor which we were thankful for so she didn't have to painfully walk up the stairs. The receptionist was very friendly on both the way in and way out. We were led to an exam room after a very brief wait and we were quickly greeted by Dr. Pak. He has a very caring demeanor and he could see that she was in obvious pain. After an exam, he told us about many things we could try, many of which we have already tried. He had no problem offering a cortisone shot with the obvious disclaimers that the relief is only temporary and doesn't always help everyone. He also gave her foot a good wrap with kinesiology tape. She already has several pairs of extra supportive shoes but we decided to also purchase some insoles he recommended which were very inexpensive. It has been a little over 24 hours and she already has a noticeable improvement in pain which will hopefully get even better in another day or two. We really liked Dr. Pak and are very thankful for his care.

My previous experience felt like being at a deli counter; I was told to get bloodwork and "take a number," all while the office scrambled to find a referral because they didn't actually have a podiatrist to perform the procedure. Following an enthusiastic recommendation from my primary care physician, I visited Dr. Pak, and the difference was night and day. He is a warm, attentive physician with a solid chairside manner. Rather than the endless hurdles and delays I had faced elsewhere, Dr. Pak simply walked in, assessed the situation, and performed the procedure in minutes with minimal discomfort. The office is incredibly efficient--I was in and out the door in about 15 minutes--and the results have been wonderful. If you have feet, this is your guy.

But unfortunately, I don't think it's possible to be good enough to make up for the office staff. They must be family members or friends etc, otherwise I don't understand how they stayed employed. ONE of the women at reception was very kind but I only spoke to her once. Jack and the woman that works the front desk most often were HORRIBLE. They would not return calls, hung up on me one time, lied about forms being filled out and submitted. When I repeatedly told them my insurance did not have the form, Jack INSISTED they were lying. When I asked for a copy of the form for myself, it was 90% blank and the rest was wrong. Jack had obviously just used white out to change an older (different) forms date. Then Dr Reed stated that since they had "already done the forms" they would then be charging me $30 for any forms/records that were needed to be done/faxed from that point on. Meaning I had to pay for them to do the forms (that they insisted were done) THE RIGHT WAY and to RE FAX THEM AGAIN. Their laziness, incompetence, and apathy resulted in 8wks of disability with NO INCOME coming in. PERIOD. I would beg on the phone to please help, I couldn't work and needed to pay rent. They told me they 'did their job and didn't need to do anything more.' Then stopped returning my calls. And would hang up on me if they heard my voice when calling. Jack very quickly back tracked when they couldn't provide copies of the things they had supposedly done...(because they never were)... and then charged me to do them. He even went as far as insisting visit notes were sent in, then admitted the visit notes weren't even IN the chart yet (so, faxing notes that didn't exist yet...) Jack will raise his voice to speak over you, cut you off, gaslight you. I don't think he understands what an Office Manager actually does. It makes me really appreciate our office and my coworkers for how far they will go to take care of patients and their needs. If we acted in such a manner as Dr Reed's staff, not only would we probably be out of a job - but I, personally, wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing that's how I treated someone. She would be AMAZING --- if she ditched those two.

Because I have an HMO and my options are limited, I have continued seeing her. It was only after I came back and asked again for her to petition my insurance for custom orthotics that another attempt was made. Throughout my visits, I often felt that there was more emphasis on the laser treatments and inserts offered through the office than on finding other solutions for my condition. Thankfully, my insurance finally approved the custom orthotics. I've also had ongoing issues getting my MRI order completed correctly. I have called the office multiple times trying to get the order corrected so that I can actually have the MRI done, and somehow it still has not been handled properly. Having to repeatedly follow up just to get an imaging order completed correctly has been extremely frustrating, especially when I am already dealing with an ongoing medical issue. What really disappointed me was my most recent experience. I called ahead to let the office know that I was running about 15 minutes late. I fully acknowledge that being late was my fault--my alarm didn't go off--but I explained the situation and asked if there was any way I could still be seen. I had already waited three weeks for this appointment and have been working every day, which makes scheduling appointments very difficult for me. Despite explaining this and practically begging to be seen, they refused. I understand that offices have policies regarding late patients, but the complete lack of flexibility or compassion was extremely disappointing. I am a healthcare provider myself, and I would try to work with a patient in a situation like this whenever reasonably possible. What made the experience even more frustrating is that I have arrived on time for appointments at this same office and waited approximately 20 minutes just to be checked in because the receptionist was assisting another patient who needed additional time. I was expected to be understanding and wait. How is that any different? Patients are expected to be patient and understanding when the office is running behind, yet when a patient calls ahead to explain that they are running 15 minutes late, there is apparently no room for the same understanding. Patients' time should be respected just as much as the office's time. Between having to repeatedly follow up about my MRI order, having to advocate for myself to get the custom orthotics approved, and this most recent experience, I have been very disappointed with the overall care.
