Van exceeded my expectations. I had to get my son a haircut for his picture day. Mind this, he despises haircuts with a passion. I called to set an appointment at the last minute and she was very accommodating and said I could come in 30 min. I arrived, and let her know that my son will most likely cry and kick during his hair cut and she said that it's okay. I sat down and had my son on my lap as I held him. She was able to achieve the fade I asked for, and did it so efficiently all the while my son crying and kicking her... even at the end she wanted to fix up a couple spots on his hair to make sure it was even. Got a perm here awhile back, the gals talked shit about me the whole time as they assumed I didn't speak their language. I stayed quiet as I found it entertaining. The perm did not take and it was expensive and a waste of my money and time. One girl told the owner that she should have charged me more due to my long hair. Never going back. I do my perms at home now for much cheaper and better results. Maybe come for a cut and dye, as I hear they do good in those areas, but not for a perm. They did give me a water bottle and snacks during the process, so that was nice of them. read more

I came in yesterday as a walk-in and Van was able to take me in. I would recommend booking an appointment though because her salon was very busy. I was a bit indecisive about what I wanted to get done with my hair but Van knew exactly what to do. She is so so sweet and kept giving me snacks so I wouldn't be hungry since my appointment took a little over 4 hours. I believe I got a balayage with shadow root (?). Not really sure but whatever it is, I love it! I typically only trust one person doing balayage on me since I've been going to her for the last 6 years, but unfortunately my stylist lives back in California. However, I'm so glad I found Van because she just might be better! I will definitely be coming back before I leave Seattle to get my hair touched up again. This salon in Des Moines, Washington is a hidden gem. The owner Van, did hair for years in Federal Way before opening her own salon on Pacific Highway. Happy Hair has been quietly tucked in the neighborhood for years, where they slay at: you name it, balayage, highlights, and beautiful haircuts for men and women that would easily cost near $100 on up in Seattle. Her experience and exacting talent was shown to me immediately as I wear a bob, and she executes it perfectly. I get so many compliments on my balayage and cut understandably, and you would think it cost me $350-$500 for it to look this good, but that's the thing....they are so reasonable! Little extras like bottled water and scalp massages are still provided however. When I saw recently on the Seattle subreddit, what people are spending for their services only 10 miles away in Seattle and Bellevue, I almost choked. Also they stay on top of current trends and techniques and I have appreciated the astute suggestions that come across as kind and not "judgie". i came in with my hair looking ROUGH, needed a touch up bad! Also my hair is really damage due to bleaching and dyeing my hair over and over again. But they did a miracle on my hair as you can see!! on top of that they have GREAT customer service. All the workers are really nice and friendly, they even offered me snacks and drinks. First of all I find John A. review hilarious. What dude's haircut is going to take 2 hours to do Lol! Unless you getting extensions, color and ect...LMAO, C'mon man you can't be serious and plus you didn't even have your hair done to do a review. I have been going to Hoang (new owner) for 20+ years. He is a hard working man with a beautiful family- son & wife. Started with renting a booth in the U district and then saving his hard earned money to eventually opening his own shop. The American dream. So for anyone to talk bad about person in that way also far from the truth- it makes you wonder. Every time I come up to Seattle from California I call Hoang and every time he is very accommodating. Sounds like every customer that walks in has their bad days unfortunately. Hoang is a professional in his Industry, very welcoming, extremely experienced and great communicator as long as you are open too. Price is very fair and I would say he is the best in town! I came in today to get my usual haircut with my mask and my son and niece had their mask on-Hoang had his face shield mask on and told me don't take mine mask off because of regulations. The guy (new owner) is a bit rude. He asked me to wear a mask (which i did of course) the moment i entered the place. But he himself doesn't wear one. His approach is a bit rude and authoritative. I said I'm going back tomorrow since the service that I want will take almost 2 hrs (which i didnt expect) and i'm running out of time because i have to go to work. I rarely write reviews or give ratings but Happy Hair Salon is an exception. This seriously is a HIDDEN GEM !!! Hear me out, I am a super duper picky human being but this hair salon is chef kiss. The ambiance is calm and the salon did a very good job at keeping everything clean and neat. Walk-in is welcome or you can make an appointment by calling the phone number they provide on Google (they're very responsive). Van (the new owner) is the one with magic hands and a highly detail-oriented person (goddamn sounds like a job interview lol). She did a wonderful job cutting and styling my hard-to-deal-with Asian spiky hair. Oh yeah almost forget, it was my self-care day after studying hard so I got the combo package with including washing hair, getting a massage+facial mask, and cutting+styling hair. It was so relaxing that I almost fell asleep. I know you are curious about the price but don't worry, it's reasonably affordable (I'm a college student which means I am kinda broke) :D Highly recommend and definitely will be back!!! read more

This is the place to go! I drive 26 miles round trip to get a hair cut. Yep! 26 miles is right, the personal attention, and the genuine smiles when they talk to you are all worth it, not to mention the work they do is with pride and they take the time to make sure you are happy with it. I have been coming here since they opened, and have no plans to go elsewhere. I am for supporting small shops. And I know they reciprocate with their work and and attitude. I mean there were ants everywhere...on the table, floors, one was crawling on my cover... Ok, get past the location, it's in a bit of a run down small strip mall off of International. However, that being said the person who runs this place, Lee is as good as it gets with cutting hair. If you've been to Supercuts or any of the fast cut hair places, you will very much appreciate this place. $10.00 for a haircut, 9.00 for kids which includes a neck massage also. You don't have to go for the massage but it's included nonetheless. I'm really picky with who cuts my hair and how and Lee did not disappoint. The difference here is, she takes her time and really really cuts hair well. She doesn't whip your hair as if she is being timed, just takes her time, is friendly and does a great job. I have gone here 4 times so far. Once to get my hair cut and 3 times to have my hair colored. Wonderful service right up front. The wait time was super short. I was completely happy and satisfied with my hair cut. When I returned for color I was equally impressed. They even kept my certain color on file if I wanted it done again.
