I waited a few days to leave this review. I got opinions from several friends to make sure I was being fair about my feelings. I came in for a haircut and blonde highlights and left with yellow / orange tinted skunk streaks. The haircut which was just a shoulder length cut with layers (her suggestion) really just cleaning up ends was $45. That seems steep for what it was but whatever - the cut wasn't horrible although some layers in the back were too short for me. But the big problem is the highlights. Especially up top. I've never seen someone place foils the way she did but I tried to trust the process. She also did not use heat for my hair to process and that was the fatal mistake. The highlights are chunky and because heat wasn't used, the top highlights didn't fully lift and came out yellow orange. Immediately when she asked if I liked it I brought those concerns up. The worst part for me was the price. I asked in advance what the price range would be for highlights. She said $80-$250 depending on length and thickness. My hair was short (shoulder) and is VERY thin. She charged me $165 when that only took her an hour and 15 minutes including the processing time. In total for the cut and color $210. Even after I complained initially that I wasn't happy. When I told her that was a lot more than I expected especially considering I now have to pay someone else (I wouldn't trust her to do it) to fix the top - she discounted me $20 for a $190 total. If you're looking for quality this is not the place. I hope my photos clearly validate this experience. (Also - the place smelled very badly, like sewage had backed up). read more

Update on my review after a year, Luu is my favorite person to cut my hair AND do my hair. He literally knows how your hair should be treat and how to take care of it. I was so on the edge of how my hair will turn out because they did have that many pictures or even client pictures. But I swear Luu is like a hair wizard. I asked for an ombré balayage, and definitely executed it the way it want. I trust him 110% with my hair. I still recommend Luu. Just be sure to call for an appointment. They are usually always booked, so it's not recommended to walk in. read more

This little jewel is located right off Dash Point Road in a strip mall. I starting coming to the Avenue for the quality products and professional color and cut techniques. I have dark brown hair and recently tried a few highlights. They turned out beautifully and accentuates depth and dimension. Highlights are visible with any hair style. Julie and Lu are the best! I went there for years, my son even had his first haircut there. Unfortunately i moved and could never find a stylist to replace Julie despite trying to find someone as good and a shop that felt as welcoming to each client. I moved back recently after being gone for years and so happy to find Julie and Lu still there and picked up right where we left off. Will be bringing my daughter in soon for her first haircut soon! Luu and julie are both amazing! I'm asian and finding a salon that can manage my hair is a bit of a challenge. Usually, when I go to mall salons, I would ask for layers and 25 minutes later, come out with the same old hairstyle, only 2 to 3 inches shorter. My hair's so thick that sometimes managing it becomes annoyingly time-consuming. Japanese hair straightening is a popular straightening method in Asia and I tried it last year. It takes about 3-4 hours, depending on your hair length. Julie was the one who did my hair and she regularly checked on me to make sure that my hair was "cooked" just right, LOL. They're very busy, especially during the weekends so make sure you make an appointment before coming in. read more

Ask for the owner. I unfortunately can't recall her name, but she saved my hair. I'm growing out from a pixie cut so there isn't much to do other than let it grow, but she layered it just right to add volume while leaving the little length I had. I had also mentioned I was thinking to dye my hair and rather than jumping on that opportunity (bigger charge), she genuinely explained to me how she thought my hair and style would look better with just highlights as my dark blonde hair is " so beautiful". Don't you just love it when you find someone who really knows how to do hair? The first time I went to The Avenue was for my daughter. She went in wanting to get bold purple highlights to frame her face. Minh didn't want to damage her delicate virgin hair (she's only 7) and introduced us to colored extensions instead. The next time I went was for myself. I went from black to red, chopped 2 inches off, and got layers. Julie colored my hair and Minh cut and styled it. I showed Julie exactly what I wanted and she delivered. She provided excellent customer service. Offered me bottled water or hot tea, and brought me an array of magazines to keep myself occupied. When she washed my hair, I even enjoyed a nice head massage. Before Minh cut my hair, he asked questions about how I usually style my hair, where do I part my hair, etc. After the questions, he made recommendations and showed me what he wanted to do and why. Today I'm enjoying my new color and fresh cut! So like I said at the beginning, don't you just love it when you find someone who really knows how to do hair? read more

Loved this salon. SO SO MUCH. The lady who did my hair was just so kind and understanding. She was very patient and welcoming. And she did my hair just how I wanted it. Also I'm very picky when it comes to hair cuts. But she isn't like the average asian lady who wants to give you a bowl cut. Got a Brazilian Blowout from here last december 2017. The first thing i noticed after the procedure was that the top portion of my hair felt rough like the strands of my hair were bent a cm from the roots. I followed every single instruction Lu told me. And the first time i washed my hair, it was obvious my hair was damaged so bad it was breaking 1cm from the roots(my hair has not been colored nor straightened in the last 4 yrs). Can you imagine clumps of hair breaking with just a stroke of a comb or brush!!! When i came back to show him what happened to my hair (even brought a bag of my clumps of hair that broke) he told me it could have been me brushing my hair with a paddle brush that is why it was breaking. Felt like he was even blaming me for the damage! Anyways, he gave me a wide tooth comb and a keratin spray to help with the damage but didnt help at all. It has been 8 months now and my hair is still breaking that i needed to cut it short.. It has grown about 3 inches now from where the strands broke but you can tell by the ends that my hair was badly damaged. I will never go back for any other treatment and also advice other people to think it over before you get hair treatment from here. Regrets regrets! read more
