I normally don't write reviews for a business. However, when a business goes out of their way to make the experience special, I am willing to let others know about this business. We are snowbirds in St Augustine for 3 months from Wisconsin. We had heard that Happy Paws Pet Grooming and Rita were absolute the Best Groomer in St Augustine. I agree that Rita is the Best Groomer in St Augustine. We have a mini schnauzer. Maddie is her name. She is almost 11 years old and needs a grooming every 5 to 6 weeks. Not only was this grooming the best cut Maddie ever had, but the grooming experience was also the best. From the reviews it was known that Happy Paws Pet Grooming was very busy, and we may not be able to make an appointment. Well, Rita went out of her way to get Maddie in for a grooming, Take the chance and try to make an appointment, it is worth it. Several other reviews here thought this was their mini schnauzer best cut. I would agree with them. Upon arriving, the first thing Rita and her assistant did was to kneel down to Maddie's level and gave her some loving. Most times taking Maddie to a new groomer will cause Maddie to show her fear by shivering. This did not happen with Rita, Rita put Maddie on a bed, not in a dog crate, while we check in. Maddie was ready to pick up is 2 hours. When we came back to pick up Maddie, she was on the bed, not in crate. Thanks Rita, for making this a pleasant experience for Maddie and us. I can remember having another groomer in St Augustine taking over 6 hours to groom Maddie. We were expecting a call after 3 hours. The call never came. We finally went to the groomer's business only to find a shivering Maddie just getting her grooming started. This means that Maddie was in a crate for hours before her grooming. Thanks again Rita for Maddie's best mini schnauzer cut and making Maddie feel welcome and comfortable when we arrived. You put Maddie at ease and you also put us at ease. read more

I am new to the Saint Augustine area. I feel so lucky that I connected to this Pet Salon. My dogs mean the world to me. This salon is so clean, the staff was welcoming (to both me & my dogs) and the haircut is magnificent! It is difficult for those of us that feel our pets are part of the family to leave them with strangers but I felt very safe and secure. I had a terrible experience in the past with a Local Humane Society that I trusted for over 3 years with my Shih Tzu for grooming and decided to try Happy Paws as suggested by my Vet Dr Norma...The owner Rita and her Husband are extremely professional, compassionate and experts in the grooming field.The facility is clean, calming and just overall first rate !! Just wanted to give a Yelp to this amazing company! I just moved home from Washington State and I was so worried about finding someone to take care of my scrumpy Doo. She was looking pretty ruff by the time I finally chose a place. The staff quickly put my mind at ease. Mind you when I finally made the appointment it was not the first time I had called . They were all super friendly and grooming in the open. Robert the stylest that handled my scrump even text me to let me know how she was doing during the cut. I would recommend them time and time again. My dog looked beautiful. She wasn't scared or weird after I picked her up and seemed to of had a good time hanging with the other pooches. Rita Magalhaes, National Certified Groomer, is one of the few dog groomers with these advanced qualifications in Central or Northern Florida. Our 5 month old poodle, Mimi was a perfect example of a classic before and after photo. Rita took our unruly, scruffy mop of a pup, that had never been groomed, and turned her into a stunning French poodle. The shop is meticulous, the care genuine and our Mimi loves going to Rita. Rita and her husband are very knowledgable about their work and have a great attention to detail with all aspects of their business, including customer service. I was referred to Rita from my Jacksonville groomer when I was moving to St. Augustine. Thank goodness I found her. She has truly been a blessing!! She took me in as a new client and worked with us on my sweet dog's special needs. Sasha is on medicine for seizures but gets very upset and shakes easily. Rita came up with a plan to best serve her without too much stress.. It has worked out so well that we love Rita. Sasha gives her lots of kisses and knows exactly what is going to happen. The salon is extremely CLEAN! it's amazing. I have never seen a salon as clean. I highly recommend Happy Paws and Rita. If I trust her with my baby, anyone can trust her. read more

I have a 15 year old mini schnauzer whom I have taken to various groomers since puppyhood. Rita is by far the most skilled and professional of my acquaintance, and when she tells me how much she loves her job, there is no doubting her sincerity. Her quarters are immaculate and state of the art, and each dog is handled and groomed with kindness, precision and an artistic flair. My old girl looks ( and smells) better than she has in years, right down to the eyelashes that Rita scissors so adroitly that people have asked me if they were real! My girl sports a seasonal bandana after each grooming session and also comes home with a bag of homemade cookies that are tasty enough for human consumption (yes, I have nibbled them!). I am very grateful to the owner of my local specialty dog retail store for referring me to Rita when I moved to St. Augustine, and feel very fortunate to have this lovely lady work her magic on my girl.
