My dog, Callie, a Miniature Australian Shepherd, died the night after going in for grooming. She was an amazing girl. I don't know what happened but she came back from here acting as if her neck was hurt, threw up sludge, was having trouble breathing and the next morning had passed away in her sleep, from I assume not being able to breathe. She has since been cremated, rest her lovely soul. I don't know if she was held up on the table with the leash too tight or whatever happened there it caused a loss of an amazing little life. read more

I have two Pembroke Welsh Corgis, and they are both fluffy. Pudge is a blackhead tricolor fluffy and has an amazingly dense, ridiculously fluffy, lion-like coat. Which is kind of a bummer in the hot summers. He doesn't want to move around as much, so we get him a puppy cut every April or May. This is hysterical, because he looks like a GIGANTIC PUPPY. Pudge is not a dog kinda dog -- and he's a shit stirrer. The previous owner/groomer (Park Avenue Paws) always had loose dogs in front, which made me SO nervous that we actually carried 35 pounds of dog in over our shoulders. I didn't want him to start anything and I didn't want any other dogs making an escape to 207. But we kept taking him there because she did a good job and he walked out smelling like a candle. No doubt, it was stressful because of the loose dog situation -- and I didn't take Pudge as often as I would've liked. So color me shocked, when I walked in to Salty Paws to find... no gate to step over, and no free range packs of 8 pound poodle-like creatures. Oh thank dog! They were laughing because Pudge's tio carried him in over his shoulder, per our SOP, thinking that there were loose dogs around. I now feel SO MUCH better about taking him there to get groomed. For example, they waited for another owner con doggo to leave before escorting Pudge out so he wouldn't be stressed or stress anyone else out. I really appreciated that gesture! I don't mind waiting! I know my dog is an ass! They also said that they do walk-in pawticures (aka nails). We were taking Pudge to get them clipped at the vet (and he wails like a baby), but I'd prefer for him to get them dremelled since it helps shrink their wicks over time. Now that I know that taking him to the groomer is no longer a stressful event for both of us, we will definitely be taking the corgitos in for pawticures on the regular! Pudge looks perfectly shorn, smells great, nails perfect. Surprisingly, I did NOT hear him barking when I came in. He looked pretty chill actually. Total cost for Pudge's topiary session: $75 (medium sized dog, with a TON of fur) Pudge, obviously, does not approve any place that gives baths and pawticures -- but he did appreciate all the loving he got. Since they changed management or personnel, grooming has been not so great. They gashed My Bichon-Poo's tail requiring a trip to the Vet, antibiotics and the cone of shame. Thing that makes me upset is they didn't say one word. We thought it was odd that they took an extremely long time to finish him (generally it would be fairly quick) I'm now guessing it was because they had to stop the bleeding before he came home. We noticed his tail looked odd, most of the hair was trimmed off and you could see the tip of his tail, when is usually flowy and fluffy. it was the next morning we noticed the gash. Best dog grooming in town! We have been with Cathy And Don for many years and Bugzy always looks great and is happy when I pick him up after grooming. Groomers are very knowledgeable and helpful about common dog issues like itchy skin, goopy eyes, etc. They are always on time! I drop Bugzy off at his appointment time and pick him up as soon as he's done so he spends very little time in a pen. I've not found this anywhere else. Highly recommended!!! read more

We recently spent two weeks in St. Augustine and while there, had our Shih Tzu groomed at Salty Paws Grooming (just minutes from the Compass RV Campground where we were staying). They were very accommodating when I initially set up an appointment then called and changed that appointment. The shop is clean and the staff friendly and very professional. First time I took my 13 year old, four pound dog to get groomed , she can home with a gash on her retina . Two trips to vet, and she has a horrible scar in her eyeball. I'm sure it was not done intentionally , however it shows lack of control and skill as a groomer. It is a new business so be prepared for An inexperienced grooming job. read more

Salty Paws groomed my sweet little Yorkie mix this morning. He is a rescue and has had a rough life, so he isn't trusting when he first meets someone. They were able to win him over and gave him the cutest cut. He smells so good and I can tell he was treated well. BEWARE! BEWARE! BEWARE! Picked up my 6 month old puppy and she was crying and in obvious distress. She was limping and hung her head down. Owner Debbie Bradbury would not tell me what happened other than "she had a very bad day". Supposedly "she got scared when her back foot slipped off the table and everyone grabbed her". She cried the entire way to the vet where they gave her morphine and 2 other injections. Called Debbie from the vet office and again got no information from her. Vet said my girl has nerve damage in her neck affecting both right legs. Our vet is not sure if she will have a life long impairment from this. She is now on 3 medications, 7 times a day. Debbie offered no explanation, NO SYMPATHY, no offer to pay the vet bill, and did not call me later to check on her. I have so many unanswered questions. If only her back leg slipped off the table, how did she suffer a neck injury? How long was she suffering before I picked her up? Why was I not told of any accident until I questioned it? Why didn't anyone call or take her to the vet right next door ? Why does the video from inside the salon mysteriously cut off at the time of the incident but was working fine before it? Please, please don't use this groomer, and tell all your animal loving friends the same. read more

When I leave reviews, I include my overall experience. Trying to be neutral and understanding of businesses. Giving positive and, negative if necessary. My toy poodle has been my companion since she was 8 wks old. When young, we started grooming as early as possible to get her accustomed. I was taught how to groom her to reduce costs. I bathed, groomed my toy poodle for 11 yrs. Things changed in 2012. I was going through treatments for cancer and unable to groom my 12 yr old dog. I found Kathy and her husband when they were mobile groomers. She looked great! I was so grateful for their help. I was concerned, she can be fussy but, they assured me she was well behaved. The next time they groomed her, again, looked great! **However, I noted after her second groom- she pawed at her eye just after they left. I forgot to give her puppy tearless shampoo. I took her to my Vet after her grooming and, told she had a corneal abrasion under her eyelid from the shampoo. I called Kathy, she dodged and said they took precautions. It must have been there before her grooming session. I know my dog. She's had petit-mal seizures since she was 2. I can sense before she has one. I'm very in tune with her, knowing when something is off. I would've known if her eye was bothering her prior. After that, my Mom resumed helping. Recently, my Mom hasn't been able to help. Again, in need of a groomer. While at the Vet, I ran into Kathy. I saw she opened a grooming shop. I explained my need for a groomer, was willing to give them another try, if they were willing. I believe in second chances. We both agreed to try again. I even explained her age and, special needs. I called Kathy this past week to set an appointment. We talked about her age- 17 now, diminished eyesight/hearing. A little fussy but, doesn't bite. I was upfront on everything. She has few small knots/mats on her legs, one on her underside. Mostly where she licks. They're not bad. Poodles have curly hair. She's developed them in past when I groomed her. No problems. I said she was just bathed, would work on combining her out the best we could. I was very upfront. Said she could use second bath. Kathy said may have to shave any areas that might be difficult where knots/mats are. I was understanding, agreeable. As an elder dog, her skin is sensitive, she can wiggle. The next day I received a call from her husband. They didn't feel comfortable grooming her, needed to cancel. My heart dropped. My dog really needs a groom. I could hear a Kathy in background talking to her husband as he talked with me. Concerns- her age, pulling away during grooming, avoiding hazards to her. Concern over shaving her face & paws. They said she was difficult to groom in the past. ? Always told she was good. After much aguish, they agreed to try. But told no promises and, ***I would have to sign a release form*** I agreed, going to keep the appointment. After the call, it weighed heavy on my heart. Didn't feel comfortable. I hesitated to sign release form. I searched for another groomer, thankfully was able to locate one that is experienced in grooming elder dogs with special needs. I browsed her FB page, I saw her condolences to her clients who's pets crossed the rainbow bridge. That was enough confirmation for me. I was upfront about everything I mentioned to Kathy. Even sent a current picture taken that evening. She put my mind at ease. Set up an appointment for last spot of day to take her time. She has elder dogs herself, understands. Sigh of relief! I'm grateful. My concerns- being a groomer, shouldn't you have the skills needed to groom elder dogs and, handle all grooming needs? Why a consent form to release them from any liability? Because of the shampoo incident? Or her age and needs? I never took legal action on the eye incident. I could have. But, I'm not that person. I don't lawyer chase. The denial by Kathy was hard to accept. An apology would have been sufficient for me. I understand things can happen. I always like to end on a positive note- she always looked great after her grooming. That's why I gave 3 stars. I believe that if you have a dog without extensive needs, or an elder dog without issues or special needs, it's a great place. They are kind people and believe that they love pets. I'm truly sorry it didn't work out. read more

We live in St. Augustine and use Salty Paws regularly for our labradoodle, Goldie. They are very professional and kind and loving to the animals. Their pricing is very reasonable and call you as soon as they are finished so the dogs don't stay in crates very long. I am very impressed with Salty Paws and have used many groomers over the years.
