We recently boarded our cat, Ruby for 2 weeks at Happy Pets for the first time. I've always been a bit nervous boarding her for so long and she is usually quite stressed and agitated when I pick her up. However, When we picked her up from Happy Pets, Ruby was calm and loving after being boarded. I've actually never seen her this loving. She was not stressed at all. It was apparent that my cat was well cared for and treated well in this incredibly clean, loving environment where cats are kept separately from barking dogs. Based on a negative review, I almost passed up the opportunity to meet Cecile and have the pleasure of her taking care of my now 2.5-year-old big baby Black Lab, Shiloah. I had the experience that the "negative review" person had. She was hard to hear (French) and I had to fill out a big form mailed first. I wanted to know more though based on the amazing reviews. So I did what I needed to and it has been well worth it. I think she is testing us as much as we want to "check her out". Patience and peace are signs of well-behaved people and animals. These processes (old school) do make you have to have both. Living in a "right now" world has made us extremely impatient and full of unrest. I have trouble waiting for sure, but this is my baby we're talking about. Cecile is amazing, a beautiful animal-loving spirit who is adored immensely by my baby boy Shiloah. Every time we get near her place he starts getting excited. This to me is worth any inconvenience of establishing a relationship. But don't come here because I may not be able to get in...hehehe. My cats were here for 2 weeks recently.Very nice kennel.Large cages mostly with a window view.The cat area is within a house on the property and is a nice homely environment.There is also a nice playroom the cats get to use daily giving them time outside of their cages. My cats often don't like kennels but they got on well with the staff and seemed happy enough after their stay here.No hiding or crying when I got back this time.Prices are also very reasonable.Will be taking my cats back there next time I'm out of town. read more

This is a lovely facility. Pets are required to go through an extensive qualifying method to be accepted (much like a Marin pre-school) overall dogs are in a doggy camp with structure. The upside is your dog is fed, goes out to play and comes home to you in one piece. The downside, the owner speaks very broken English, is getting up there in age and has very limited assistance to help her. You cannot check in if your away say via computer updates or photos on a daily need. My pet is my family, and miss him greatly when I am away for a week at a time. I need to know he's alright and want to see pics of him playing. The other issue is that if you are told to arrive at 11:00 and come at 11:10 (because it's in a remote area) and traffic can be very busy around there, you will get a very cold reception and possible lecture. No one wants a mad caretaker at the drop off point. This last business trip I was away and came back to numerous red bumps on my dogs head without an explanation. I know he is cared for, but the questions remain. Note, the caretaker abides by a red line arrival and pick up code. If you're flight came in, or you want to pick up your Fido early, say during lunch time you might be told to wait up to 2 hours until lunch is over. Its a tedious and outdated method for working people & approx. 25 miles from town. I do not recommend for working folk, or anyone with the need to communicate while your away. read more

Great place. We left our dog at happy pets for a couple trial overnights to establish compatibility and I could tell right away that she had a good experience. This is not a daycare facility but a place to establish a vacation home for your pet while you travel. Yes a computerized system or receptionist would help but Cecile does a fabulous job with the pets and don't change what's not broken. It is actually refreshing when you can speak directly with the person taking care of your pet. Great find. read more

Cecile has been taking care of our family dogs for the past 20 years. We have had several from our Great Dane Henry to our little Jack Terriers Eddy and Wyatt. My mother had to have the dogs at Happy Pets Inn for almost 2 months as she needed major repairs done on her house and Cecile went above and beyond to help our family. She took great care of our 2 dogs, one with severe health issues. She is a wonderful woman who cares deeply for the animals in her care. We absolutely love and adore her for all the extensive care and concern she demonstrates time and time again. If you want to take your cat or dog to an outstanding kennel, this is the place! Cecile, the owner, genuinely loves these animals and the animals love her. She is one of the warmest people I've ever met! We took two cats in for five days and were amazed at the incredible set-up they had! Each had a sizable cage, very clean, with their name on it in a house designated just for cats. Then they have an indoor play area where they take individual cats to play with toys and a scratching post....also very clean. This is on a 2 1/2 acre property. The dogs have a safe indoor place and there are two wonderful outside yards for the dogs to get exercise. One yard is for large dogs, the other one is for small dogs. Both kept up beautifully. For the special care these animals get, I was surprised that the prices were very reasonable and mainstream. read more

Forgive me for this review that is 23 years late. Had Yelp been around when this horrible episode happened to my dog, I would have written at that time. My beautiful, tiny, cocker spaniel, Daisy made her third and last visit to HPI in the Fall of 1997. She returned home on a Sunday extremely dirty and a big mess. On the previous two visits, I had Cecile and Jean bathe Daisy upon her return. On this last visit, the bath did not happen. Sunday evening, I bathed her and knew immediately, something was wrong. She whimpered and whined during the entire bath and blow dry... normally she enjoyed this process very much. I called HPI that evening to check in to see if anything had happened to Daisy. I was given. I information. When Daisy had trouble getting out of her bed the next morning, I immediately took her to the vet. There was no conclusive diagnosis given. The vet took X-rays, thinking that perhaps she played a lot at HPI and hurt her back. The vet also took a blood sample. I left the vet with a steroid and was requested to keep Daisy on a soft base that would allow her some traction so she would not slip. Fast forward to Wednesday, I get a call from the Vet requesting I stop the steroid as her liver enzymes were elevated. I again called HPI, begging them for some information. Still nothing from Cecile and JP. Fast forward to Friday, I return home from running errands and Daisy had had a seizure. She was laying on the soft padded floor I made up for her immobilized. When Daisy heard my voice and I got close to her face, she just whimpered. We rushed Daisy to emergency animal care in Alameda. They began work on her and sent me home. Throughout the day, they kept me posted. The first of the bad news came after a spinal tap when Daisy was sedated and the vet was able to get very clear xrays. These clear xrays showed THIRTEEN (13) fractured ribs. Daisy had fractures on both sides of her body. This was an injury the Vet has seen before when an animal gets slammed in a door or a garage door comes down on an animal. In addition to the fractures, the vet said the blunt force was strong enough to cause organ damage. This was the reason she had elevated liver enzymes. As you can imagine, I was devastated and shocked. I immediate called HPI to share this tragic news. Again, Cecile and JP told me nothing. After over a week in intensive care, Daisy passed. All of my communication with HPI up to this point had been in English. When they learned Daisy passed and that I was looking to hire a lawyer to get some Answers, Cecile and JP could no longer understand English and insisted I communicate with them in French. I hired a wonderful attorney the SFSPCA recommenced to me. I was certain Cecilia and JP knew what happened to Daisy but yet they never offered any information. After many depositions with a translator, they said "...we are not sure, but maybe something could have happened to her..." In my heart, 23 years later, I believe they knew what happened to my sweet girl. As you can see, this was so painful. I gave Daisy her forever home when she was 10 weeks old. She died when she was almost 10 years. She was a wonderful companion who acted and looked like a little puppy even at 9.5 years old. Just thought I would share. read more

Jean-Pierre & Cecile have an amazing setup for the dogs and also an entire house for Cats only. They offer pick up and delivery and their rates are very reasonable. The care they provide is top notch. We don't trust our Greyhounds with just anyone, but from now on, Happy Pets Inn will be their home away from home. We've been taking our Vizslas and Wire Fox Terriers for 30 years, for every vacation or daycare when we couldn't bring them with us. Cecile, Manuel and our dear Jean Pierre (may he rest in peace) have given our dogs much love and care every single time. Our dogs love it there and often don't want to get in the car to leave. When we're five minutes away from HPI, they wake up and know where we're going. Once there, they jump out of the car clearly demonstrating how much they love it at Happy Pets Inn. We miss the pet pickups and delivery but not as much as we miss Jean Pierre. But, we still take the extra time to deliver and pickup our beloved dogs so they can enjoy a vacation too at Happy Pets Inn. read more

This boarding facility is wonderful. My dog Buster always loves staying here. Once he jumps out of the car in the secure driveway he runs to meet Cecile and follows her to the office. Cecile is very kind and loving. The animals sense this and are very comfortable with her. There is a wonderful huge play yard for friendly dogs to get out and play under complete supervision. I highly recommend this facility. Don't be surprised if your dog jumps out and doesn't seem to mind when you leave. You can bring your own bedding and you do need to supply your own food. I called "Happy Pets Inn" for information because we wanted to stay in Sonoma and board our dog. The Google Reviews were so good, I thought I'd give it a swing. The woman who answered the phone was very difficult to understand, and there was a dog barking in the background the entire time, so we couldn't even talk to each other. I was able to ask if the dates of our vacation were available, and she said yes, but that she first needed to physically mail a "large brochure" to my house. She informed me that they do not use a computer. I felt really uncomfortable moving forward, so I decided to end my inquiry there. My guess is that "Happy Pets Inn" runs off local referrals and only benefits folks who can stop into their business to make arrangement. I would encourage that "Happy Pets Inn" hires a professional receptionist who can bring this company into the digital age (setting up a website, have the ability to email customers, make reservations, etc) because I can't imagine the amount of business opportunities they're missing out on! Wished my experience was better, and I do wish this company all the luck. read more

I have been a client of Happy Pets Inn since 2000. Two close friends boarded their own dogs there and recommended it to me and I have gone on to recommend it to my friends. We all love it. I have been very pleased with the care and love they have shown my dogs. One of my dogs needed medical care during her visits. Cecile provided it without fuss and my dog came back looking great!!! There was the possibility that the other might need to see his vet in the East Bay & she was up for that!!! She has been very conscientious and would give reports of their stays. I particularly enjoyed her depiction of one dog's stay as being at "Club Med". I never worry about pets staying at HPI. It is one of a kind! read more

My cat normally cannot tolerate staying anywhere for boarding, but I needed to leave him somewhere for a week. He's older - 18 years old and I wasn't sure how he would be when I picked him up. He's had emotionally harrowing experiences in the past. Such a cat! We'll, turns out , he didn't want to leave the Inn. I absolutely loved the facility - the rooms, the care, the cleanliness but especially the caretaker. The pricing is very very reasonable and In line with the market. Loved this dog boarding facility. It's owner Cecelia is lovely and came to my rescue, I needed a dog sitter. I realized I couldn't leave my dog crated in the dog friendly hotel whilst touring Napa valley. The large dog play area is very clean and she takes care to check health records & vaccinations, this made me feel secure to leave my fur baby in her hands. If I could give 6 stars, I would. I have been taking my cat here for years, and would not go anywhere else. Period. I live in Santa Rosa and take the extra time to bring him here. One time, I had to drop him elsewhere, and it like comparing the Four Seasons to a Best Western. Happy Pets being the Four Seasons, of course. Set out in rural Sonoma, they take dogs and cats. The cats have a separate house, yes, the "cat house". It has an alarm system and air conditioning. What strikes me about it is that even when the house is full of cats, it doesn't smell like cats. Or over-powering cleaning materials. How do they do that? The cats are put in individual 3-level cages, so they have room to move around. Plenty of room for his bed, and still room to jump a bit. Much better than the small cages at most boarding facilities. The owner, Cecile, even tries to pair temperaments of the cats in each room (there are about 6 rooms, maybe more). Not that the cats can make contact with each other, but she'll put shy, older cats together, etc. Cecile, originally from France, speaks French to the kitties. Mine, who is very shy, has taken quite a liking to her. If he is in need of medication while boarding, administering it is not an issue for Cecile. Remember the cat food scare, when cats were dying and different foods ended up on the recall list almost daily? All the confusion? My cat was there. She immediately stopped feeding him his normal food, for fear it would end up on the recall list next. She went out and bought cans of tuna. Better safe than sorry. She even sent me home with a few cans, in case I couldn't make it to the store in time. Oh, and no extra charge. For dogs, I know they have separate, large area for them to run around an play. They always look happy! I'm pretty sure they are separated into large, medium and small. They also have a van that does drop-offs and pick-ups in San Francisco every day. And for $15/day for a cat, it is worth every penny. I wouldn't trust my baby to anyone else. They are caring, conscientious and clean. I only wish they were closer! read more

This couple has an amazing set up and I can't imagine leaving my dog anywhere else! My rescue dog has major separation anxiety and I was nervous to leave him anywhere after a bad experience boarding at the vet. Cecile suggested leaving him for one overnight so that he knows that when he goes to this place that I come back. I did that and he did fine and then two weeks later I left him there for a week and there was no problem and I had a great vacation knowing my dog was in good hands. It's amazing to watch my dog just swoon when Cecile speaks to him in French! He Loves her! There is a yard for the little dogs and one for the big dogs and the two groups are never out at the same time. I also visited the Cat house and it's immaculate and no smell at all. read more

The BEST place to take your four-legged family member! We have been taking our dog(s) to Happy Pet's Inn for over 15 years. Cecile and Jean Pierre are simply the best. They treat our dogs like part of their family. Zeus, our German Shepard, starts getting excited when we are about 3 miles away. He always comes back happy and healthy. We left him ONCE at another place...NEVER again. ONLY Happy Pet's Inn for him. Our previous Golden Retriever, Shane, LOVED Happy Pet's Inn. He too would get excited on the beautiful drive a few miles before we arrived. We have had many of our friends board their dogs at Happy Pet's Inn and ALL have been extremely satisfied. Cecile and Jean Pierre are truly a blessing. It's so nice to NEVER have to worry about our dog when we are away. It may seem like a long way to go for those who live out of the area, but it is well worth it and a lovely drive. As an added bonus, Cecile and Jean Pierre are the most patriotic couple that we know...but that's another story. You won't regret using Happy Pet's Inn. We have been taking our family dogs to Happy Pets Inn for over 20 years. We've tried others that are closer to home, but keep coming back because we know they are in such good care. Cecile and her helper (I wish I could remember his name) are both so dear. We trust them with our fur babies immensely--even when we have traveled out of the country for extended periods. So many boarding businesses have extra bells and whistles, and for tech people, Happy Pets might feel a bit old school. No answering machine, no fancy website, hand written notes and invoices, etc., but we're ok with that. Where this business might lack in technology, they excel in getting to know and caring for each animal. At the end of the day, that's what is most important to us. They're also just lovely people and we learn a little French each time we drop off and pick up! Our dogs hardly want to get in the car to go home, so we know they love it there. It's time I jumped in and wrote a review. I have been sending my dogs to Cecile and Jean Pierre for 15 years. They started in SF and my pomeranian went to them regularly. She was a difficult dog to board because she did not like other dogs around her. Someone, Cecile and Jean Pierre were able to keep her happy. I know they sometimes let her sleep in their home. Now, I have two papillons and they stay at Happy Pets regularly and fly out of the car when we get there. They love it when I say "want to go see Cecile" . They know. And all the anxiety of having my bags out packing up goes away. We just came home yesterday and had yet another wonderful and safe vacation and knowing the dogs were also safe. One last thing... Jean Pierre and Cecile actually care enough to get to the know the dogs' personalities and make comment on how they did while we were away. They know that Katey is particular and does not want you to approach her; and they know Mikey is more friendly and emotional intelligent. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM!! read more

This is a wonderful "bed and breakfast" for your furry pet!!! We had reason to be in the Napa area over the Fourth of July for four days! We were traveling from Arizona to Napa with our 30 pound Mini Australian Shepherd and needed a safe place for her to stay while we were there since the home we were renting with our children did not accept pets! I did my research for kennels in the area 6 weeks in advance! I settled on Happy Pets because of the reviews people had written and my conversation with Cecile, one of the owners! I received a great booklet from her that gave me all the details and more reviews of the location! I also sent her all the necessary info on my dog---- her feeding instructions and info about any Meds she might need! (But she did not!) When we arrived we were greeted by Cecile! We went into her office where she got to meet Nell and us!! Nell immediately liked her! Cecile speaks softly and in French to the animals! French did not bother Nell! She seemed quite at ease immediately! We spoke to Cecile for about 10-15 minutes about Nell's needs! We left our pup's bed, blanket, bowls, food, treats, and toys! Waved good-bye and left feeling good about our decision! When we picked her up 4 days later we were greeted by a happy puppy! Cecile said that Nell wanted to be with her wherever she went! So, they really bonded! She played with other the other dogs but really seemed to like Cecile! So, bottom line...this is a great place to place your dog when she cannot be with you in the Napa and Sonoma area! Do not hesitate to board your pet at Happy Pets!!! read more

I'm new to the Sunset district of San Francisco, so a family emergency that required travel to North Carolina presented a big problem for our geriatric dog, Oscar. I turned to local friends and got a referral to Happy Pets Inn that came with the assurance that Oscar would love his stay in the vineyards of Sonoma. I was very relieved when Cecile told me she would take him; she even offered to have their vet give him a Bordetella vac if I couldn't get an apt. before bringing him. I hadn't found a local vet yet so she gave me three referrals in my neighborhood. I chose one and was thrilled to get a same day apt. and a lovely new vet at Avenues Pet Hospital in one fell swoop. My daughter and I took Oscar to Sonoma the next day even though Happy Pets will pick up & drop off your cat or dog if you need it. We loved the facility and the owners immediately. They have plenty of room, fresh air, comfortable quarters, and offer a secure environment for the family treasures they board. Oscar has never been boarded in his 14 years, but he was instantly befriended by a Pug, a Scotty, an even older (16) Terrier, and a 6 month old Spanish Water Dog - it was right out of Disney movie. Cecile sent reports by e-mail to ease my mind while I was away, and this morning our darling boy was delivered to my doorstep by Jean Pierre, who gently kissed Oscar goodbye before setting him down. Oscar was happy to be home, but after running up the front steps he came back and made a dash for the Happy Pets van. Either he wanted more fun at "doggy camp" or he was having a hard time saying goodbye to the beautiful little Papillon girl relaxing in one of the transport kennels in the van. I absolutely recommend this facility for your fur babies. The price is affordable and the care is priceless. We're so happy, we may send him back for a weekend now and then, just to visit his new California friends - two legged and four! read more

5 Stars are not enough. It is hard to describe how good Cecile and Jean-Pierre are. One example - the first time our rescue dog was put in Jean-Pierre's van she was very frightened - she was months at SF SPCA before we adopted her and she did not want to leave us. The second time Jean-Pierre came she got into the van as fast as she could, tail wagging away. These folks love dogs and dogs love them. They are very attentive and aware of how each dog is doing health-wise in social interactions with other dogs. read more

Yelp reviewers did not disappoint. We recently decided to take a small trip to Kenwood Spa and Inn and had no one to watch our year old Havanese and Poodle mix named Molly. I turned to Yelp for help and ran across Happy Pets Inn. The reviews were good and we didn't have time to look around. So purely based on other Yelpers reviews we went with it. Happy Pets Inn truly lived up to the reviews. Primarily because of Cecile. She was truly welcoming on the phone and made me feel at ease. Upon our Arrival, we noticed that the setting was rural and country. It was so polar opposite to the city environment that our pup lives in and this made me happy. I was a bit nervous leaving her all night for the first time but, after meeting Cecile and her hubby We left our little princess with very little apprehension. Upon our return from our amazing Spa getaway, we returned to pickup Molly and she was healthy happy and well taken care of. I highly recommend Happy Pets Inn. My Old English Sheep Dog received the best care from Cecile and Jean-Pierre for 13 years. They are the only people I would let baby sit my boy. He was always ready to jump into Jean-Pierre's arms when the van arrived. Often when we were walking in the neighborhood, we would see the van and Jean-Pierre would stop and Ollie would greet him with great affection-the sentiments seemed very mutual. Ollie had separation anxiety but not at Happy Pets; there were a lot of other dog friends to play with and sometime friends from the park were there at the same time. I never have to worry if my dog is missing me while I am away because she loves Happy Pets so much. My rhodesian ridgeback (Athena) loves going to Happy Pets. So much so that whenever she sees a white van - she thinks it is Happy Pets coming to pick her up and she jumps in and sits contently waiting for them to take her off to her this happy place.
