I couldn't get any advertised 24/7 emergency repair outfits to answer their phone. It was 1AM and the fire department dismissed my vulnerability telling me to call a plumber when no emergency plumbers were answering their phones. When I finally got a plumber who had worked for me before he came out to try to convince me that I needed a new furnace. He said he would come by in a day or two to fix the limit switch that needed replacing. Left alone in the house without a working furnace, I thought I better get a second opinion. Bowness Plumbing and Heating was recommended as an independent old school company that did good work st reasonable prices. I called Mitch Hurd around 3:30 AM and was surprised he answered the phone himself. I asked him to come to diagnose the problem so that I could submit a request for financial assistance to fix the furnace from Alberta government Senior's Assistance program. What I was really after was a second opinion on the face of the cost of a new furnace. My furnace was mid efficiency only about ten years old. He agreed to come to provide a diagnosis for $350. I felt that would be money well spent in the face of the costs of s new furnace. He came within 40 minutes. I was on the other side of the furnace anxiously telling him to hurry up to not go over the half an hour for $350. He was a pleasant person to chat with. When he was finished I gladly paid $350 in view of the costs of a whole furnace replacement. You probably won't believe what happened next. Mitch Hurd is a man you just can't help but love. I know I do. As he was going out the door he said, "Ella. I already fixed it. I was here anyway. Your furnace is not a dud. A limit switch replacement is common. Don't worry about it now. Your furnace is fixed". VERY, VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! I will never use another plumber in the years I have left in this life. Calgary, we are very lucky to have him. But then someone told us about EZ Heating. He came that day for us, and after looking at the furnace he concluded that there was dirt in the furnace making the flame catch incorrect readings. That is believable, as we hadn't had it cleaned or serviced for years. (Our bad.) I am almost 60 years and I can tell who is an honest person. And the guy who came to our house (Mike) is HONEST. I contacted this company last week to replace some parts on my Rinnai tankless water heater. Rinnai…read moresupplied the parts free of cost and gave contact info for this company. Dave, the owner and plumber quoted me $500.00 for labor. So Dave and his fellow showed up early morning on April 24 and replaced the parts, some points to note: 1- Although they claimed to be Rinnai trained, they did not know that burner box cannot be pulled without removing the top plate, tried wise grip pliers and deformed the collars of burner box. 2- When putting back the flame burner, they stripped one of the screws, now one of the screw is loose, still claimed that it is safe to operate the unit 3- Charged me $100.00 extra claiming the unit was rusty, unit is only 6 years old and as a Rinnai trained plumber he should know that all water appliances do get some rust. Nothing needed to be cut or drilled. 4- Gave verbal labor warranty, no written labor warranty. I had to use this company as Rinnai would only send parts to their "trained" technicians. Arpi's Industries and Romcan heating are two other Rinnai sale/service outlets in Calgary, don't know about their "trained" professionals".
