I then received a very judgmental look, as tho either I was in agreement with what was said or I was "the enemy". I promptly left without saying a word. I just came here to find a happy, healthy place for a pooch, not to receive a litmus test by some self-righteous, indoctrinated political activist. Judging by the tone and content of the conversation, I don't believe these two to be rational, mature nor responsible individuals. I take care-giving very seriously. I can honestly say that from our first meeting, I knew that I could rely upon HTTY to take care of Lucy as if she was their own. Lucy has been a bit unsure of her new surroundings, and has been slower to warm to new people than she typically is. Dana and Suzanne spent nearly an hour allowing her to warm up to them at her pace - that was huge for me. They both have great instincts and hearts, and picked up on Lucy's body language and actions and took their cues from her, instead of forcing her into their routine. There was an unforeseeable situation and their response was to terminate care and leave me on the other side of the country trying to scramble to get someone to take care of my dog for the remainder of my trip. I started a Yelp account just so I could give Happy Tails a five star review. That's how good they are. They walk dogs and they prevent adult men from being lazy. My girlfriend and I have three dogs and like most dog owners, they're not just our pets, they're part of our family. We've NEVER left them alone with someone else in the six years since we got our oldest. So we were definitely freaking out about whether or not we'd be able to find anyone that we would feel at ease with. That was over about ten seconds after we met Dana. You can tell immediately that she not only loves what she does (and animals in general) but that she's incredibly smart, capable and appreciates all of the trust and respect given to someone in her position. She gets it. And she proceeded to reinforce that by answering every single minor question we had (most times before we even asked them). While we were gone she gave us constant updates over text. We could tell by the pictures that not only were our dogs being extremely well taken care of but they were actually having fun. And in addition to the fantastic care provided she also got our youngest dog a new bowl. And she brought them all some special treats she has brought in from Arizona. The BEST dog walking/sitting service I have ever experienced. Well, I am not a dog, but I do know my yellow lab Piper LOVES Happy Tails! I work contingently so my schedule is not always consistent. With that being said, I most often, text Dana that morning and ask for Piper to be walked around noon. I have never had them say "No" once! Not only are they accommodating, they are phenomenal with pets. When we first met Dana, we were new to the state of California, let alone Long Beach. We were Michiganders with a familiar dog walking place there. When Dana first met Piper for her consultation, it was love at first sight! Dana was immediately comfortable with Piper and so loving. Piper returned the favor by literally sitting right next to her and laying on her legs. (Piper is 72 lbs!) We knew it was a good match and had to try them out first. We have since (that was October 2013) had a problem. I absolutely love how they text us immediately when they come so we know Piper has been walked. They are also so very detailed to tell me what she did on her walk (whether or not she peed or pooped) and any silly things she does, such as roll around in random grass or perhaps when they find her sleeping so soundly in the bedroom (good watch dog, huh?) They were also so awesome with our move. We lived in a temporary residence for the first two months so when we moved, the key exchange and switch was so easy and effortless. I cannot say enough nice things about Happy Tails so I will continue to go on. Since we moved from Michigan, literally, weeks before meeting Dana we were surprised when she offered her hospitality for me. For example, I was scheduled to run the Long Beach Half Marathon in October, however, I became injured days before and couldn't walk. Dana (during the first consultation) offered to take my chair that day and place it outside of her house since she was right of the path. She would work around my schedule and come check on my baby late at night while I was working. This review is a year overdue and I can't give Dana and her staff enough praise. She and her team are absolutely amazing and my two boys (Dasher and Blitzen) are lucky to have her in their life. Dana first came into our life one year ago when I was leaving for a 3 month trip to India and Nepal. My boyfriend offered to dog sit for the summer but as he had never had a dog before he had no idea what he was in store for. One of the things we like is how, while you're gone, they'll send an update on how the walk went, usually with a picture. What peace of mind that gives us. You should also prepare yourselves for the fact that Dana and Suzanne will become a part of your family. In fact, whenever we have to leave Tucker in their capable care, we always tell him, as we leave, that his "other mother" will be coming to be with him. Honestly I could not say enough good things about Dana and her folks. Me and my boyfriend both work long days and needed a good reliable pet walker for our two dogs and Dana is the absolute BEST!! They are so flexable about being able to come on short notice (as in that morning) and care so much about the dogs. I am very over protective of my two girls and would recommend Happy Tails to anyone. They are a bit pricy ($20 dollars a day for two dogs to get walked a half hour, or 20$ for an hr for one dog) but it really is worth. They make you feel really at ease. Every day she came and walked our girls we would get a text about how the visit went and a lot of the time very cute pictures of the girls that day.
