I…read more got there on Friday, 5 days into the show, and the place was full of thousands of campers here to see the world's biggest air show.. I parked in the wrong place...and just when I was giving up, SECURITY came by to help. They didn't get angry ' cause i caused some problems with my parking. Didn't get frustrated with me when I couldn't solve my own problems. Justin, Matt, all of them, just got involved and solved things with me, got me sorted into a great spot that wasn't obvious at first glance. I told them thank you ever so much! Thank you.

One year later.. still the same fun as last year.. we were in the space right next to the one last…read moreyear.. slightly different this year with a large RV on our left with pull outs that seemed to pop into our space leaving us no room to put our shade "pop up" up unless we either retracted our tiny awning or put it over the tent (which is what we had to do. Lesson, if you want full use of your space, arrive to camp early and not the day before as the majority are already there.. not enough for us to get upset, it was cozy in our cove and actually felt exposed when we stayed through Sunday and most of our neighbors left earlier.. Added a few photos from this year. We used the laundry this year, either bring LOTS of quarters or you can download an app and pay. It was nice using the app to see when your laundry was finished so you didn't have to stay and wait as there's always someone waiting to use a machine. The app tells you when they are open too. We will be back again next year!

This campground is just a few miles outside of Oshkosh Wisconsin. We stopped here for just one…read morenight on our way up to Door County. we weren't looking for anything spectacular just a place to sleep for the night. It was a little chilly and spitting rain, but we took a quick walk to take a look at the park. The area upfront seemed to have mostly long-term people in them and had full hook ups. It looked like quite a few people were here for the season as there were potted plants and such. We were able to get a pull through site, number 40 that had full hook ups. They do have trees so most of the sites were shaded in this particular area of the park. The backfield appears to be mostly back in spots and was just about empty. These sites look like they are sewer and water only so I'm assuming they are some sort of overflow for all the airshows and events that happened in Oshkosh. The front building is actually a bar. I'm not sure if they serve food, maybe, but you go there to check in. The bar looks like fun, but as it was raining, we did not visit that evening. I will say that the public buildings, while we did not use them as we are completely self-contained, honestly looked a little scary. There's literally insulation viewable from the outside, a bucket sitting outside the door, just didn't look like anything we would want to use. They did have some kids stuff, including a bounce pad and there seemed to be a few children enjoying the park. Everything worked fine at our site, we did pay $75 a night, which is quite pricey for what this park is. The manager was very nice, we did not have any issues at all as far as people being Kind.

We loved this cabin! The cabin was located on a creek that fed into Lake Poygan. Our family of 3…read morewere extremely comfortable in this perfectly decorated cabin that slept 12. The kitchen had everything that we needed in order to prepare meals. A fire pit was available for our use as well as a BBQ. The bathrooms had quality style towels and were comfortable as far as water temperatures and water flow was perfect for a rain style shower. The beds were comfortable with more than enough blankets, sheets and pillows for our use. The owners, Kelly and Gerard were very personable and accommodating. Upon our arrival, Kelly greeted us and gave us the rundown on everything that we needed to know about the cabin and the area. Gerard was fantastic by showing us rest of the property including the barn and pond. They even allowed us access to a couple of boats for us to row around or motor in. Gerard allowed us to operate his tractor and mini bike - both of which were a real highlight to us city folks. The whole experience of staying at Cabin on the Creek was very memorable and our family would highly recommend it to anyone that wants a getaway to this area in Wisconsin.

I was at Appleton Flight Center last week for EAA. They were super busy, but took great care of…read moreme. I read others saying that they raised their rates during EAA. I am not sure what people expect as they had to increase the staffing for the traffic. I was called the night before my planned departure to confirm the time and get a fuel order. I indicated that I would like them know the day of. I called that morning and indicated that I would be taking 30 gals per side, but to wait until I was at the plane (old habit). They said I would likely get a delay in fueling. I allowed them to fuel without me there. On preflight, I found that the tanks were topped off (70 more gals than planned). I mentioned that to John, the lineman and Mary at the front desk. They both said they would let their manager know. On Monday, I got an email from Bob Woods, the manager, apologizing and letting me know he had credited me the difference I paid with what my home fuel cost was for the excess 70 gals. A great leader, who exceeds expectations, makes a great operation, and I can see why they are so good.

We had flown our WWII C-47D from the Yankee Air Museum in and landed directly at Oshkosh to participate in the Warbirds displays for a couple days. Our original plan for returning was to get dropped off with our luggage near our plane when we were finished with the Airshow. Then we would take off from Oshkosh. But due to the traffic in and around the Airshow as well as complications for getting our group and our luggage to the plane for departure, our pilot decided to fly the plane from Oshkosh to Appleton International Airport which was also closer to our hotel. Then we could all meet up there to board the plane and depart for home. The air traffic was much lighter and there were virtually no vehicle traffic problems getting our group to the plane. The Platinum Flight Center at Appleton International Airport is where we met to board our plane. They operate facilities to service and fuel charters, Business flights, private planes, etc, as well as passenger services and processing. They are located on the opposite side of the airport grounds and everything looked new, clean, and well maintained. They even loaded and delivered our luggage to and onto our plane for us. This could be useful for future airshows as well.

Outside of EAA this airport is your standard towered field with a flight school, FBO, and two very, very long runways. Tower staff is friendly but the FBO is hit and miss with low staff levels.

This is perfect for a single man or woman to save money for a while and then move on. The greatest thing is that there is no time limit that you can stay. A man has been here for 23 year's.
