I really wanted to like this place since they have lot's of LGBT people there, Unfortunately the bartenders and staff was really rude and obnoxious. It took 20 minutes for the bartender to finish his conversation with his friends and take my order. Went looking for a place to hang to hang out for Halloween when everything was virtually closed. My girlfriend and I stumbled our way in here where the party seemed to be. When at the bar to order drinks, a simple question was asked, and that was "what's your best sweet but strong drink" and the bartender asked "Do you have bartender friends? You clearly don't, all the drinks are the same, don't ask that, everything's the same" while rolling their eyes and getting snappy and turning their back on us with an attitude and not serving us or even offering a recommendation on their menu. I will never visit this place again, or recommend anyone else to visit. I don't tolerate disrespect and leaving before things escalated further was the best thing to do. It's not worth your energy or your time. The bartender was a Caucasian male, had on a dress, had a short/mid cut, and was very disrespectful. I hope they see this review. Hello there! So we went to Happyfun Hideaway for our friend's birthday on Friday. The atmosphere of this bar is beautiful , however we soon found out looks can be deceiving. My friend went to order two whiskey soda's with the bartender (skinny Caucasian male presenting) who was clearly under the influence. Because of this the bartender spilt an entire drink on my friend. He only charged us for one drink, but then said to tip him more!!? We also helped clean up the mess. Although we are thankful for the free drink, I will just warn everyone that this place clearly doesn't have a strong management and will let anything fly in this bar. read more

The bartenders do not provide you with copies of your receipt and then falsify your tip amount. I ordered 6 drinks (either well drinks or premade margaritas). When I closed out my tab, the prepopulated options were 20% or higher. I tipped the customary $1 per drink, though I miscounted, I should have tipped $6 and that was my mistake. Regardless, the bartender didn't provide me with a customer copy of my receipt. My emailed square receipt showed that she input a higher tip amount than I had marked. Really shady practice. I don't think she realized that a) I took a photo of my receipt, and b) that I would be emailed my Square receipt. I will be disputing this on my credit card. I've been frequenting this bar for a while, but after my experience last night I won't be returning. A few friends and I went to this bar and ordered drinks. One of my friends ordered a "vodka water" but the bartender misheard her and thought she just said water. The bartender continued to insist she get her water at the end of the bar and told us they wouldn't say it again. When I stepped in to clarify what she was asking for the bartender said "doesn't seem like she needs anything else to drink" (mind you we hadn't drank anything yet). I insisted she was fine and there was an issue with the bartender hearing her and the bartender got offended by us battling them and kicked us out. Mind you we were the only black people to have entered the bar. My friend also said they had experience of bar staff changing tip amounts unauthorized. Too many great bars in the areas for patrons to be treated this way, especially in queer spaces meant to be safe for all identities. read more

FRAUDULENT CREDIT ACTIVITY FROM THIS BAR. SAVE YOUR RECEIPTS AND CROSS CHECK YOUR CREDIT STATEMENT!!!! I was buying a few drinks for friends and the bartender charged me different prices than what's listed above the bar. I pointed it out and he said those aren't accurate and charged me the higher price anyway. I'm pretty sure it's illegal, or at least frowned upon, to charge different prices than what's stated. The bar would just need to erase the chalk and rewrite it - so it was bullshit. Long story short he was rude and it was false advertising so I didn't tip him. Although annoying not a huge deal. I was going over my credit card statement and in the month that the charged was incurred everything checked out. The following month however, I had weird charges from this bar. They refunded the initial charge and then charged me again a HIGHER amount. There should be no credit activity from this bar the following month. This is TOTALLY ILLEGAL. I had my receipt to prove it. I called my credit card company who refunded me the difference but can't really take action against the as company as it's more of visa/mastercard issue. The vibe itself is decent enough for a dive bar - fun, eclectic vibe, with shitty music that's fun to dance to BUT are super shady so be careful and SAVE YOUR RECEIPTS because if upcharging the listed price isn't illegal, changing the transaction amount a month later is 100% illegal! There are essentially infinite bars that are better than this one so definitely not worth being taken advantage of! read more

Loved the unique vibe of Happyfun Hideaway. They have a huge patio out back which was enjoyable on an unseasonably warm NY night. I also LOVED that they were screening "Its A Wonderful Life" on all of the TV bars. The Tequilla Guava was heavenly! My friend recommended it to me which was helpful because the drink menu is extensive. I could've sipped one of those all night. The gender neutral bathrooms didnt have toilet seats (a little off), and beware, you'll need to bring your own toilet paper (concerning!) The only note I'd make about the inside was that it was a little musty and steamy. For New York, the 50° evening temps are rare in December, but there was just a little bit of an odd smell. After getting 3 beers from the bartender I noticed I was looked up with hate. This is my go-to bar in the neighborhood during COVID. They have a great outdoor patio in the back which is spacious enough for people to distance themselves, plus they have seating in the front. I heard so many amazing things about Happyfun Hideaway that I was incredibly excited to check it out. While the drinks are cheap, the decor is unreal, the staff wasn't friendly nor attentive whatsoever. My friend and I sat up at the bar for 10 minutes watching the bartenders chat, take shots, drink beers, and hide behind their phones before someone took a second to ask if we needed anything. One of my friends, unwisely, brought an outside beer into the bar and, said Bar tender (I'm assuming you know who you are), got very aggressive about kicking us out of the the place. So this next dude walks over and just kinda gives us a look. BUT THIS ALSO HAPPENED TO BE THE SHITTIEST AND SMALLEST 10 DOLLAR COCKTAIL IVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. I searched deep in every sip for even a hint of the gin that's supposed to be in the Fitzgerald but I really think I might have been served water and lemonade. My friend had the spicy tequila drink which tasted like liquid ass, but at least her's had a definitive taste. Literally go to Birdy's I got the equivalent of a fucking Disneyland dole whip for 2 dollars cheaper in a place that doesn't stink like shit. I didn't even get to the restroom because I was out of this place so damn fast. Apparently they don't have toilet paper or toilet SEATS?? They get 2 stars instead of 1 because they were playing Kraftwerk. But other than that, I cannot give you a single reason to come here. I'm a fan a this beautifully bizarre little bar. Complete with a picnic table (and umbrella!) just to the right of the entrance, a projector that screens seemingly random films in the back, and an outside patio area, how could I not be? This past Saturday I met a couple of friends here for a couple of rounds of drinks, and it provided colorful refuge from the gray day. Starting out with a mango chili margarita, which I spotted on their "fancy drink" list, it was tackily served in a plastic "glass-" the perfect touch! We then shared an order of the nachos, which would have been exactly like those I ate at swim meets in the 1980's and 1990's had it not been for the chopped tomato, onion, and pepper that sprinkled the liquid cheese. Mmm... My second round consisted of their $7 tequila/Tecate deal, which was a good way to go out. And I'd definitely go back! read more
