I was positively thrilled and surprised to find such a delicious Japanese restaurant in Sooke! The service was 5/5 (super warm and attentive), and even though our server warned us the wait would be a while, the time flew by with her bringing us water, tea, and our appetizer. Plus, they were clearly all hustling as fast as they could. For the food, they were actually sold out of a few things because we came later in the evening, but that made it clear they make everything fresh, same day. We had the agedashi tofu, which was perfectly crispy outside and soft inside with a tasty sauce beneath. My spicy chicken tofu soup came out steaming with an egg and rice, and I loved it. My husband had the yaki udon stir fry noodles and he devoured it. Tea was free, and I'm writing this review as we're sitting in Hara for a second night in a row! read more

This is a our favourite restaurant in Sooke. The staff are amazing! The sushi is fast, well-crafted and fresh. We have never had less than stellar service or food here and we've been many times. Highly recommend it! It's very busy at time, so allow yourself some time if you want take out! read more

As a group of 6, we were pleasantly surprised when the chef approached us and spoke about getting some party-size sushi & sashimi orders. It showed that they were flexible and accommodating. Ironically we craved comfort food and ordered primarily hot plates as we were spent travelling the whole day to Victoria then to Sooke. I had the udon in soup and although not the most traditional, it hit the spot. I felt that the soup base was more Chinese-based than Japanese. It came with tempura shrimp, tempura beans, tofu bean curd, cabbage, sprouts, zucchini, carrots and some spicy black-peppered chicken. The negitoro hand roll was $6.95! Ordered the Tuna and Avocado rice bowl and was deeply disappointed. A big bowl of rice with a tiny bit of tuna and 2 small slices of mushy avocado with a small handful of greens. No sauce, no dressing....just plain dry rice. For $18, I would expect something much less plain and flavorless. It was an extra let-down as I had pre-ordered and had been so looking forward to a delicious lunch for hours :( Gordon Ramsey would've thrown this rice bowl across the room. read more

My wife and kids and I tried Hari Sushi in Sooke today. I must say we were very unimpressed at best. Food quality and execution were subpar and quantity size was VERY much LACKING!! I've never paid $12 for a salad that did not add up to half a cup of actual greens and less than 2 ounces of salmon sashimi. Tuna tataki for $13 to get less than 2 ounces of actual fish! All portion sizes were very small. The Agadashi tofu was disgusting! Not a single one of us liked it at all. It had a horrible coating and was not cooked properly! It tasted like they were trying to infuse Korean with Japanese and failed miserably! I can honestly say we will never go back and don't recommend this place at all. I have dropped over $80 and I don't mind paying more money for a good sushi meal but I hate paying over 55 bucks and feeling like I got less than half of one! Very unhappy!!! read more

Absolute heaven!! A beautiful little sushi restaurant in the heart of Sooke. It doesn't matter what you order, we had a sampling of the menu and it was delicious, fresh and authentic!!! Where to start, the miso soup wasn't too salty the edamame was fresh and warm, the sashimi and sushi were very fresh, the teriyaki (seafood) had amazing flavors, the tempura was not greasy with just the right amount of crunch, the sake was flavorful and hot, the mochi was the best way to clense our pallets!!! The staff was very kind and we couldn't have asked for a more fun, delicious meal!! Highly recommended! read more

This is such a wonderful spot. The service, food, and atmosphere are excellent. I ordered the vegetable bento lunch special (without the barbecue sauce that comes with the tofu as that is not vegetarian) with hot tea. The flavor and quality of ingredients was super especially for a casual lunch spot. Will definitely look forward to coming back anytime I am in Sooke. read more

It was nice surprise to find a decent sushi spot in Sooke run by an authentic Japanese sushi chef! Two of us shared the ramen, unagi and avocado pressed sushi, the crunch roll and individual orders of the toro and salmon nigiri. We had a long day so we ordered to go. Overall: -the crunch roll was super tasty. -fish was fairly fresh but we expected more because of the proximity to the ocean. I'm not sure where their product was sourced though. I've definitely have had fattier and tastier toro. -not bad for pressed sushi however I live in a city where pressed sushi is pretty amazing. - was disappointed that the ramen was not stored noodle separate from broth. The noodles were soggy and egg over cooked when we got back to our cottage. This was disappointing. The broth was okay. What I expect from a sushi restaurant. -price point was as expected for a small town sushi spot- bit higher than the city. I docked a star for the ramen fiasco and rating of sashimi freshness. read more

Cute little sushi spot in the heart of Sooke. First time there and was not disappointed! Decided to have the basic(California roll and spicy tuna roll) compare to the past. Both were really good...California roll had good flavour there where sometimes it can be a bit bland and the spicy tuna was compatible to all the rest so A in my books. We also had the BC roll and the dynamite roll...both were very well done :) Why not 5 you might ask?! Well service was good but it seems they get quite overwhelmed at times...I'm a stickler for health and saw a few "serving it right" issues with pass over of drinks etc... Price point is a little higher than expected...I come from a small town on the mainland and it was prettier than there. Overall great spot! read more

Awesome place! Upscale with delicious food, lovely and creative presentation, and nice staff! A bit slow with service but understandable because the response to a new sushi place has been overwhelming. They were full on a weeknight with many more people coming in while we were there. This place is so disappointing. It is probably the best rated sushi place in the area, but it doesn't mean it's good. First, their teriyaki chicken was only a few pieces on a bed of soggy salad. Next, we are from the states, and their nigiri was only one piece. This was a big supiese to us. Also, the service was really bad. It took forever for the food to come. Also, halfway through the meal, they told us that they received a bunch of other orders, so it will be a while until we get any more food. We asked for how long exactly, and they said an hour. An hour!! We figured out that it is because they got a bunch of take out calls, and they decided to put us at their least priority. As a result, we just decided to leave and go somewhere else. When we saw our bill, we saw that they got a lot of things wrong, charging us for things we didn't order. They ended up fixing this after a bit of time. A last thing we saw was that they charged us extra for ginger that we got. Not sure if this is just a Canada thing. Overall, a bad experience. read more
