This place is ridiculously expensive! They charged me over $5 for a small cup of tea, about 8 oz at most. When I ordered I figured it was a pot of tea, because everywhere else charges $5 or less for a whole pot, not one small cup! Then the barista asks you how much you want to tip, you don't punch it into a keypad. You tell her how much you want to tip her. Consistently great. Entire family enjoys all the available options. Nice that they have GF snack options. Super attentive staff, very clean shop, great vibe inside, outdoor seating for nice weather. We've probably been to 90% of the coffee shops in the FC/NOCO area and this is def in the top 3. A nice modern place with not a lot of choices. I ended up choosing a hot cocoa and my husband ordered a cold coffee with vanilla. Hot cocoa was good but the cold coffee was the most bitter, unappetizing thing I have ever tasted. Super disappointed as I have heard some amazing things about harbinger. Meh. I had high hopes for this place since it's on my walking route to work, and a nice rich hot cup of coffee would be lovely on a cold morning. But this is way too expensive and too slow to make a return visit likely. I was thoroughly underwhelmed. The staff were friendly enough. But at 7:30 in the morning on a Monday, the coffee was "not ready yet", necessitating a ~5 minute wait. Really? This was not a predictable scenario? A 12 oz drip coffee was more than $3.50! No "shots", no flavors, no froth. Just hot, black coffee, and precious little of it even without room for cream. I really want to support local businesses - but I just can't afford to do this, and I'm a reasonably well-paid professional. They say that it is a "life changing coffee experience". Harbinger is my go-to coffee shop in Fort Collins, and I've tried them ALL. It's a craft coffee shop, some of the reviewers don't seem to get that. If you want "sugar drinks" and assorted chemicals in your coffee, this is not your place. Instead Jonathan and his crew provides a clean, classy, comfortable place to get the best espresso in town. I've learned over the past couple years there IS a difference, so I don't mind paying a little more for the best quality cortado, cappuccino, or latte. If you want coffee roasted and prepared at the highest standards (but not in a pretentious way), this is your place. They've got a location in Old Town, as well. Both locations are fantastic... south location is a little roomier, if you like to spread out. read more

Worst coffee experience I have ever had. Ordered a pour over and was told it would be 10 minutes. 25 minutes later, I was told that they had not even started it yet and were "too busy". It would be another 10 minutes at least. 35 minutes for A CUP OF COFFEE"!! Offered to give me a brewed cup a refund the difference in price. Asked for a full refund and will never be back. I've been looking forward to trying this place since it opened. Finally, this morning my family and I gave it a try. The man taking our order was unhelpful and snooty. My sister asked how things were going in the new location, trying to strike up a conversation and he gave a one word answer and walked away. The prices are pretty high for adequate coffee but there aren't many options. The atmosphere is prefab and pretty sterile. It just didn't have the same warmth as a Starbucks even. I like to support local coffee but would expect a bit more friendliness and atmospheric charm, unless I'm just driving thru. read more

We really like the idea of this kind of coffee place and we couldn't wait to try them out. The inside decor and beautiful roaster showed promise. We hope the lackluster service is just a wrinkle to be worked out. This is a special coffee experience where they roast their own beans and brew one cup at a time, if you choose that route. We were confused then why they didn't embrace that and help create the experience by explaining what was happening, the different flavor profiles, or actually anything that would set them apart from a national chain. As our coffee was being prepared with a beautiful apparatus, my husband asked the difference between two kinds of beans, the young man said, "They are different." As the beans were delicately weighed on a scale, it seemed precise, until a few too many fell in and the young man actually reached onto the scale with his bare hands and scooped some out to put back into the bag. The illusion of precision ended there. He handed us the first cup and told us to go sit and he'd bring the second. It was about 12 dollars for two cups of coffee. We've been in Paris and paid about the same, where needless to say the atmosphere beats a view of a hospital parking lot and a traffic light intersection. This place missed the mark. read more

I visit several of the coffee shops in Fort Collins, and Harbinger South is one of my favorites. The baristas are great, helpful and nice to chat with. Harbinger roasts their own coffee and it is some of the best in town. There are plenty of comfortable places to sit, with room for a laptop if needed.
