I love the energy of this shop. You instantly feel welcomed. They have a ton of different types of seating which I also appreciated. I will say the menu is slightly confusing. They have items listed as vegan though parts of them are not. So we ordered the vegan pretzel that comes with cheese and mustard. Because the item was labeled vegan we assumed all aspects were vegan however after ordering we were notified the cheese was real. I wish things were labeled vegan and vegetarian to help clarify this confusion. The matcha was incredible and I enjoyed every last sip! The vegan bagel sandwich I had was pretty filling and good as well. read more

Been here a few times now... most recent stop was a quick stop for road coffees and was truly impressed. The interior atmosphere has all kinds of nice appointments and great seating options. There was a steady flow of customers and the service was spot on... take 4-5 minutes to get the two coffees. Big White Whale is a hazelnuts, white chocolate, Irish cream latte..... WOW!!!!! Two visits in as many days. My lovely college kid suggested it (& he doesn't even drink coffee!). Situated on College Ave, it was still east to find parking. Yesterday there was no line around lunch time, this morning there was a line but it moved quickly and there were still plenty of tables both inside and out. This place has a nice coffee house vibe. There are pieces of art on the walls made by local artists available for purchase. Now on to the food! Yesterday it was lunch time, so my companion and I shared a Colorado Chicken Mac and Cheese. It came in a huge bowl and was so creamy with just the right amount of green chili to give it some heat. The chicken was well cooked and flavorful and balanced the richness of the cheesy goodness. We were able to finish it, but there's no way I could have done it alone. For dessert we split a lemon bar. It had a nice amount of chewiness to it, reminiscent of a lemon bar I had in Silverton (can't remember the place offhand but I know I yelped about it!) This morning I got a specialty latte (goldfinger with cinnamon and caramel) and a breakfast burrito. Both were delicious. Inside they also sell art work from local artists as well as some of their own shirts, mugs etc. They make a point of highlighting the various local businesses from which they source ingredients and services, which gives it a warm community feel. My only objection (a problem for me but not them) is that it was both busy and loud, so I would have a hard time if I were trying to work (like I said, an issue only for me). The service here is always pretty good. They'll explain menu items and give suggestions, but they're not overly helpful with suggesting add ons so you have to ask specific questions haha Overall, the coffee is fabulous and it's a nice spot to sit with friends. Well the service has really gone downhill. They seem to be experiencing excessive turnover & that has resulted in baristas that aren't really efficient or outgoing. Been a loyal customer for over 5 years & they are making it difficult to want to continue coming back. It didn't help that the line was to the door & the manager was at the bar on his laptop. Sad to see the decline. Maybe they will right the ship before losing regulars. read more

They have a good selection of loose leaf teas which is hard to find! They also have a variety of vegan and vegetarian breakfast and lunch options which I appreciated. I built my own breakfast sandwich and was shocked how expensive it ended up - 16$ for a bagel sandwich! But that's on me for not realizing how the pricing working. I have no complaints about the food and drink, but the atmosphere and seating leaves a lot to be desired. More than half of the seating is bar height tables and chairs, which is fine is you are non-disabled, but not great if you are disabled. As the seating is first-come, first-served, and there is no way to prioritize seating as a disabled person, the space is not very accessible. The issue with the ambiance is that the kitchen staff blast music that often clashes with the music played in the main seating area. The staff keeps the kitchen door open, and today, as I'm writing this, they are blasting death metal from the kitchen over mellow pop and jazz in the main seating area. My last discomfort with meeting people at Mugs Old Town is when I leave there's a distinctive smell on my clothes and in my hair that does not dissipate for a few hours. With so many local coffee shops in Old Town, there are better options than Mugs. read more

Mugs had a nice atmosphere inside and a large menu to choose from, the staff was also very nice when taking our order. I will say that the coffee was very average, I got a dirty chai and was certainly disappointed. We also got a breakfast burrito and it was quite soggy and underwhelming with little flavor. That being said the matcha was better than the chai and the açaí bowl was yummy as well. For breakfast however we spent quite a bit of money with what felt like not that much food. Havent done a review for a couple of years though i have been in several times since my last review. Mugs has a fairly good sized menu for a coffee shop. There are gluten free, vegan and vegetarian options available. Their menu is clearly labeled for dietary needs which is always appreciated. They have a good variety of hot drinks. I always get tea. They only have a couple of herbal teas however. Forbidden fruit and chamomile. They have ample indoor seating for individuals and groups. They do offer free wifi for guests. Prices are average for our area. Staff has always been friendly and helpful. Very good company! Support local over a starbucks. read more

Only reason for four not five is the wait for coffee- really ought to have a just coffee line- but if I have the opportunity to return and order food I will update, it is cute, tasty ( I had a brownie) and staff is great. Mugs continues to be one of my favorite breakfast spots in town for a weekday. They have great service, lots of vegan and gluten free options, and a great community feel. I typically order the vegged out on an everything bagel. It can sometimes be tricky to eat, but always delicious. The avocado smeared all over my face after the first bite is just what I'm saving as a work snack for later. To drink, I typically go for their Bhakti Chai with almond milk it's a perfect balance of sweet and spicy. They have a couple nondairy milks to choose from, which I appreciate. Someday I'll stop in on a weekend when I can enjoy a beermosa. Their service is typically quick, perfect for an in and out on the way to work, but it's also a great place to dine in, see some friends, and enjoy the sights of Old Town from the window. read more

DONT BRING YOUR DOG HERE!! They are not dog friendly. Unless they're flirting with the customer behind you. Then bring your doggie along. Wow!!! What a huge disappointment! We waited in line and when it was our turn, the coffee maid apparently knew the customer behind us and skipped us and went waited on him. Took his money, got his coffee sat in a conversation and never asked us what we wanted, so we left. I'd like to say she was rude to a tourist, but I didn't consider myself a tourist. I was staying next door at the Armstrong Hotel while my dog was seeking treatment at the CSU vet school. We patronized Mugs several times a day for over a week. I love that this was my first time here and the quality of food was incredible. Loved my almond milk latte, gluten free toast option and vegan cheese option. The gluten free toast was super fresh and tasty and my almond milk vanilla latte was incredible. My fiancé got a pre made burrito. As well as a oatmilk latte. I'm giving the business 5 stars because the food and coffee was great. The staff needs an attitude adjustment. I mentioned I found this place on Yelp and the barista was like oh . Only down fall was the baristas were NOT FRIENDLY OR WELCOMING!! I can't point out just one because they all made zero eye contact nor any nice interaction which typically you expect at small mom and pop cafes. Very sad because I liked the food and coffee but I most likely will not go back due to the non friendly staff. I think they preferred to be on cellphones vs being nice and welcoming. I get it, I love my phone but not when I'm working. Any moment they could get they all had phones out. While this coffee shop is great in theory, so many coffee shops want to be so cool that they forget to simply have good coffee. First, I hate when I go to a "coffee" shop and I order their staple item - plain coffee - and it's the one thing I have to get myself. Sure they will make me a gourmet vegan veggie whole wheat organic whatchamacallit, but coffee? Get that yourself!! Then, of the four do-it-yourself coffee pots, 3 of them were literally room temp. Not even close to passing for hot. That left me to drink the one hot one that was left. Thanks for making coffee the lowest priority in your coffee shop. I love MUGS! The staff are great and the service is excellent. HOWEVER, I just found out that their location is open on Thanksgiving and Christmas. I can understand Thanksgiving but CHRISTMAS. These young workers are so kind, and always handle lines out the door. And management can't even give them Christmas off to be with family and friends. This is ridiculous to me. Have we lost all decency. I am so sad for these young men and women who will have to work that day. Instead of making them work, give your employees a tiny Christmas bonus and let them at least have the 25th off... do better Mugs. read more
