I have been working out here for almost a year and Crunch has been acceptable to me…read more Pros: -The price obviously, starting at $10/month is outstanding. -The gym is only a year old so most equipment and the facility is still in very good shape, although some of the machines are starting to wear -The gym is gigantic and has basically anything you can think of, from cardio to free weights to boxing area to machines to saunas in the locker rooms. Cons: -Peak time (weekdays after 5 pm) are extremely busy, to the point where it is uncomfortable how many people are crammed in there, even with the size. People stuff things in lockers without locking them so finding one to put my stuff in often takes opening up to 10 lockers before I find one. It's to the point where I would rather just go in the middle of the day -The number of aspiring influencers in there? Can almost always see somebody recording themselves, sometimes with a tripod and a mic and everything. Maybe it's a generational thing but maybe don't take up space during peak time with your AV equipment? -The aforementioned wear and tear. Management just pushes more and more memberships and upkeep of the one year old gym is starting to lag behind the shear volume of visitors. Yesterday, two stairmaster machines inexplicably were not working. Some of the weight machines are showing wear in the pads. The restroom in the locker room often does not have paper towels. All in all, an acceptable experience. You get what you pay for I guess, but it's disconcerting to see how quickly this place has started to trend downward.

When I first start going to the gym, I was so excited because crunch is an amazing gym with an…read moreawesome business model. But there are constant problems on the maintenance side of things. Often times there's no soap in the soap dispensers in the men's room, the men's urinal, there's only one, hasn't been working for six weeks, machines breakdown and they don't fix them, and pads where you put your legs or arms are totally worn through the viny! deep into the padding, and it will stay like that for months, and still nobody is replacing those. Absolutely pathetic. EDIT: I finally canceled my membership here, but they kept charging me, and when I would reach out to ask for the manager, Josh, I was always told he was busy or not available. I spoke directly with the assistant manager about the situation, he told me he totally understood, and he would personally work on getting my refund. When I called for him again, I was told that he moved to Tennessee to take over a Crunch Fitness gym, but when I would call to ask if he would follow up on what he promised me he would do, I was told that he was in training for a few weeks and I couldn't speak with him. I found out that his brother was a manager at the gym in Tennessee, I left multiple messages for him, I spoke with multiple people at that gym, and I never could hear back from anybody. I finally went into the Madison Wis. location and spoke directly with the new manager, Josh, he said he would take care of everything by that Friday, in four days, but weeks later nothing had happened. I emailed and called the facility a total of 22 times, and my money was finally refunded to me. And this was months after I had cancelled my membership...

Crunch Fitness - Madison - A few machines are like this, and this one has been like this for three or four months. This is unfortunate, because it's a great gym.

I was so excited to meet Peter since I loved watched him on the Bachelor. My hopes were very high when I met him and he did not disappoint!! Peter was very personable and his passion for fitness was very clear. He was so excited about his business opening and graciously allowed my husband and I the opportunity to work out free of charge at the facility a few times to try it out. He even let me take a picture with him and went the extra mile to comment on the picture on Instagram. The facility itself is extremely clean, well organized, and even well decorated. There are several weight and cardio machines to choose from. All the machines are relatively new and accessible. There's even a training area covered in astroturf. They use this area for classes led by different instructors, including Peter. The classes are super fun and the instructors do a great job of training their members and making the classes fun. The gym has a great location in downtown Middleton. It's near several shops, apartments, and even a brewery right next door if you want to reward yourself after a great workout! There's even a bunch of green space in front. I was definitely considering becoming a member until we moved about 20 minutes North. We are thinking of moving back to the Middleton area one day so if we do, I will definitely be joining Peter Kraus Fitness.

I honestly did not like the workout my first 1 or 2 times -- I got a bit confused as to where I was going... but by the third visit I totally had it down (it truly is simple once you get a rep or two) and actually started to LOVE the workout. It's a high intensity heart-rate pretty much the whole 35 minutes with some weight work snuck in between minutes on the airdyne bike. It's a killer. In just 7 days I noticed my cardio abilities improving. There is a lot of weight/strength exercises during the workout, but I wouldn't say this is where you'd go to gain power strength and bulk up. More like muscular endurance while gaining some strength. You're done in 35 minutes, and you can choose to stay for 7 minutes ish of ab work and 3 minutes ish of stretching (and then you actually have time to stretch on your own in the studio without being pressured out for the next class... woot!). All of the coaches were great, too and fun to have as a workout guide. They do all kinds of fun recognition for members who hit certain milestones... while that's not totally my thing, it really did bring some comradery to a large group of strangers working out together. It's fun to be excited for somebody else! If I had to find a negative, it is that you absolutely DO NOT have sufficient time to transition from the bike to a weight station in most cases... and you're often running into other people running all over doing the same. I wish there was a more systematic transition... but I learned to get over it. All 7 days that I went during my free trial, not one single staff member tried to sell me on a membership or give some rehearsed pitch. Totally different than any other chain gym I've gone to and it was kind of a relief. I actually had to contact Basecamp to talk membership because after the 7 days, I really was interested (I did not start this trial intending to continue with a membership). This was at the very end of February when the mask mandate was expiring, and I'm just not ready to be in an indoor room with a large group of unmasked and only-maybe-vaccinated people breathing heavily for 45 minutes. If things go well for a few months, I'll totally join. If the masks coming off doesn't bother you... you definitely need to give Basecamp a try!

Everyone was so nice and encouraging, and even if you're new to working out they make everyone feel completely comfortable. It was really fun and effective I'll definitely be sore!
