I am looking for a pump, and clicked on an ad for Harbor Freight's a Drummond 3/4 HP Submersible Utility Pump, Stainless Steel Construction, 4400 GPH-so I called the store and got an absolute run around for 15 minutes. First person who I spoke with told me the item was not in stock and when I asked her if any other stores had it in stock she immediately said no, it only shows one available. I asked her where that one was and she said "what do you mean?"....I said-you told me that it shows there is one available-I want to buy it, where is it? She said oh you can't buy it, it is a display. Ok.... So I then ask her how long it would take to get one if I order it? her reply was "What do you mean" Me - I am not sure how to rephrase that-your item is out of stock, I want to order one. She told me that they do not take orders... So I ask-so your company is advertising a product that is not in stock in your store, or any other store and I cannot order it-she said yes. So I asked to speam with a supervisor-perhaps that person can help me figure out how to purchase the item they are advertising. After 5 minutes on hold, another person comes on line, and after going through all the same information, he also tells me there are "not any available within at least a 100 mile radius", I ask if he can perhaps suggest a comparable pump? While still on the phone with him, I go back to the website hoping he will offer a suggestion, and the link for the pump I called about shows that it is in stock 5 miles away and ask him why it is showing they have them if there aren't any in a "100 mile radius" he says "let me check....uhhh oh...yes they show that there are 3 in stock". Are you kidding me?? So apparently BOTH of these people were too lazy to actually check and see if there any in stock anywhere else? They need to do some serious customer service training here-these associates do NOT care about customers or sales. read more

I've been to quite a few, and this is the nicest one yet. They don't seem to have the homeless encampment in front of the store like the North Hollywood store nor the homeless problem of items being stolen like the Pasadena store. This location is clean and bright! Lots of random tools and supplies. Plenty of free parking in front. Some of the quality is so so and some is really good. I like to come here for odds and ends and the prices are great! Service is decent but I have encountered random attitude at the register before. Most of the time it's a good experience here... If I could leave zero stars I would. This store has the worst customer service ever! I went in for an item that was out of stock in the store. I get it. Things run out. I asked the store manager if he could please call a couple of other locations to see if they had the item in stock and he said NO. He said it was not his job and I should do it myself. Seriously? I could understand if the store was busy but there was NOBODY here. I will not be coming back to this store again. Went across the street to Home Depot and they were more than helpful there! I was telling my wife I must be getting older because I look forward to the Harbor Freight coupons and deals. I used to make fun of the geriatric crowd that frequented the aisles now I'm one of those old farts. So, my local HF didn't have what I was looking for so I made the trek out to this store. I was pleasantly surprised by how big this store is. One can spend hours looking around. None the less, I was in a hurry and already had the product ticket from the other store so I took it to the cashier. He took a few minutes to get the stuff, but all in all very pleased by the product. With the 20% discount the deal was hard to beat. Are you looking for very inexpensive tools? If so,Harbor freight is The place for you. Almost everything they carry is extremely reasonably priced. They carry everything from small and large electronic tools to your basic hammers and just about everything in between. My one concern when I shop here is the quality of the air inside the store. Every time I walk in to a harbor freight store I am greeted by an overwhelming smell. It is something like the smell of rubber and oil. I am not quite sure what it is but I do fear for the health of the employees that work there. I have mentioned it to them on occasion but I am not sure if they realize just how bad it is. My beloved air compressor broke due to a bad regulator. I was bummed that I had to go without my power air tools. I placed an online order with Harbor Freight Tools for the first time on July 27th and as of 8/16 have not received. I have been checking my emails everyday to see if has shipped. I called their customer and was told it was going to ship in a day or two. When I didn't receive I sent an email and was told that their warehouse was backed up and would ship as soon as possible. They took off the shipping cost and sent a $10 gift card. Again asked about my order and keep getting the same response and that I should receive gift card. They have power tools, hand tools, machine shop equipment, and various tools for your typical DIY'er or the professional. Some people express concern that their power tools, made by Chicago Electric, are poor quality, but I have yet to experience any issues with them. Make sure you join their email list because they will send you amazing discount coupons regularly. For example, today I went in and bought a stapler gun and used my 20% off coupon that was emailed to my phone. Then I used the same coupon for my friend's purchase and he received the 20% off. They have great deals, and often for those that subscribe for emails. If you check in on Yelp, you get a free LED mini flashlight! They have a great 90 day return policy with receipt which is great. Also, they offer a lifetime warranty on all of their power tools. The store is organized and clean. Lines can get long on Sale days, but they have enough cashiers to move customers along quick enough. Most of the cashiers that I've seen are happy, are sure to greet you and ask if I was able to find everything I needed. I have no idea how to write a review for Harbor Freight. I know absolutely nothing about tools and anything in relation to tools. My boyfriend works in construction so I come in here with him sometimes. Sometimes he'll be looking at a particular tool for like 20 minutes comparing models and I'll just people watch. He seems to be able to find the products he wants and hey, great, whatever. What I DO find absolutely hilarious about this place is that every time I've come here there's been like a used, washed-up stripper looking thing working behind one of the registers. I'm talking about girls that must have been up all night doing their 2nd jobs and gone straight to work, with crazy messy hair, glitter, star stickers on the face, bright colored eyeshadow all over the place... I generally love this place. 20% coupons are common. However, on 3/3/13 I showed up and tried to use one. It was expired by a couple of days. Alright, my bad. I did not see the date on the coupon. Regardless, I "was" a regular until the cashier wouldn't honor the coupon. I had about $100 of stuff on the counter. I just wanted 20% off one $29.99 item (ultrasonic jewelry cleaner). But, I didn't get a thing. I just walked away. I did not argue. I just said I wanted to get everything together. Honestly, they did not offer an alternative. They simply said sorry. The manager stood nearby and apologized too. I simply felt this was bad customer service. Alternatively, Bed Bath and Beyond takes coupons after expiration. I knew it would only be a day or two before I stumbled across another 20% or 25% for Harbor Freight. So, I had no shame just leaving all I had selected on the counter. I got home and visited Amazon.com. A similar, not Chicago Brand, Ultrasonic Cleaner was $5 less at Amazon.com. I looked and found a thermostat gun with laser target similar to the one I was going to buy at Harbor Freight for $7 less. The list goes on. Long story short, $100 at Harbor Freight turned into $70 on Amazon. Wow! Just because the manager or cashier didn't offer to take 20% off one item they're out $94 of business. I saved $24 in the long run. $24 of profit they could have made had they just said, "no problem". I guess it pays to search online first. read more

If you're looking for a hammer, or a screwdriver, or a 2x4, then The Home Depot or even OSH across the street will do just fine. But what if you're looking for a wood turning lathe? Or a metal turning benchtop lathe? Or an arbor press? Or a miniature bench grinder? Or little jeweler's magnifying lenses that clip to the side of your glasses and make you look steampunk? In that case, I would recommend Harbor Freight Tools. This is the type of store where you go in for one thing and get lost for over an hour discovering tools you didn't know existed but you have to have. Need a brass sextant? Yup, they got it here. How about a miniature worm gear driven rotary table? No problem. 24" vernier calipers? Sure...on sale for about $20. One of those things with a magnifying glass and little alligator clips that hold your circuit board while you solder? Sure, two for a fiver. As you can tell, I've done extensive research. And I still have yet to scratch the surface of what's available here. The only downside? Well, at the prices these tools are being offered, one doesn't have to think hard to guess where the costs are being cut. But that's not really so much different from what you're buying from OSH or Home Depot, so silence that little nagging part of your conscience and buy yourself a wood tool cabinet to class up your workshop, or a model RC airplane to make your kids happy and call it a day. As for me, I'm totally going back for the sextant. read more

These guys have their heads up their A$$es. I stopped in to buy a ladder. It was 199.00 but now on sale for 139.00. They only had one out on the floor next to the registers. There were only two cashier working and no people working the floor. I politely waited for one of the cashiers to finish with other customers before asking if this was the only ladder they had left and if it was being held for someone. She wouldn't answer me and just called for a manager. Ten minutes later no manager. I took a look at the ladder and could tell that it had been used and returned. So I asked again can to tell me if you have anymore of this ladder because this one has been used. Again she just called for a manager. After twenty minutes I said "do you have a manager cause no o e is coming up here and why can't anyone else check inventory to see if you have a ladder in stock?" Guess what?!? LOL she just called for a manager again. I hate it when people don't think about customer needs or how to best sell store product. Nice job guys NO SALE. You know what really sucks? When you frequent a store fairly often throughout the year and then when it comes time to return something you can't do it. I bought 4 little caster wheels to help a friend fix a close rack. It turns out I couldn't use the wheels because of the way I would have to mount them. I had to go to another store and buy wheels because Harbor Freight didn't have the ones I needed. Meanwhile, the bag of wheels gets shuffled all over the house and I finally find them and try to return to the store. Of course I paid cash and the receipt is missing from the bag. The manager told me basically that I was out of luck. He wouldn't even give me store credit! These wheels are brand new and never been used and only cost around $12.00 Sure it's my fault for loosing the receipt but in this day and age, come on! I remodeled my house and bought a ton of stuff at Home Depot. They have a system where you can return a certain amount of stuff without a receipt and they track it using your drivers license. So, for not letting me return $12 worth of stuff, i'm not stepping inside that store again. read more

Things are definitely cheaper here than Home Depot, Lowes and other major stores but they are all no name, just got off the ship from China type of products. I recommend getting alot of non vital tools from here. You don't need to spend a ton of money at other stores for screwdrivers and other basic tools when you can get it here for alot less. The other side of the pendulum is that for items that are built complicated it will probably fail on you. i.e security camera's, power drills and so forth. Still a great place though. read more

I'm torn between giving them 4 and 5 stars. I've bought nearly all my automotive tools from this store. This includes: crescent wrenches, socket wrenches, an air compressor, impact wrench, impact sockets, mini shop press, engine hoist and engine stand. There's probably some others, but they've had almost any tool I've ever wanted to work with. They're also dirt cheap and their hand tools come with a lifetime warranty. I've broken one or two ratcheting wrenches and walked in for an on-the-spot replacement. They don't try to pretend that they sell the best equipment (and I'm sure they don't). Still, you get a lot of bang for your buck here. Everyone is knowledgeable and sometimes the lines in this store are long, but the staff is otherwise great. They get 5 stars because they accomplish everything they set out to do--provide good service and low prices. If I'm worried about reliability, I'll buy their 1 or 2 year instant replacement warranty. read more
