Spending $40 for bad dessert, and getting an ole well. Eat at your own risk.

Beware of the cooked food. I've gotten sick a couple times. The first time , I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Last night I purchased $40 worth of food, including banana pudding in a cup. When I got home and tried it, not even an hour later, I knew I was in trouble. Went into the store the next day with the cup.. the manger and perhaps his mother gave me my money back for the item. And pretty much had an "oh well" attitude. I will never return again.

Located On Jefferson Avenue between Indian Village and the downtown area Harbortown Market is a fantastic specialty grocery store that offers Metro Detroiters fine produce, a deli, a healthy wine selection as well as a variety of gourmet foods like cookies and cheese. Finding its home inside of the same shopping center as Subway and Rite Aid, Harbortown Market is well known and loved by locals. I suppose when you offer shoppers everything from baked goods from local bakeries, Seattle Sutton meals, sake and more there's little that customers are in need of. In addition to their food selection, Harbortown also offers lotto and money orders. The staff is always friendly and helpful her, but the prices are a bit more than if you were to shop at a Kroger or Meijer. Yet Harbortown offers gorgeous bouquets, organic produce and other items that are rare to city. So, if you're looking to grab a bottle of wine or simply forgot the hamburger buns for dinner stop into Harbortown and see what the buzz is about.

I normally come here for beer. And they have a great selection, like really good. They have beers for weeks that other stores sell out of in a few hours. Great grocery store and prepared foods as well. Love this spot

Lovely people, good selection! Family-run, and very friendly. Best option on the East side.

I'd adjusted to Detroit a little, so I wasn't without shopping options (and there *is* always the drive to the burbs).

Definitely a cool stop in (or near?) eastern market in Detroit. It's 3 floors but the one you…read moredefinitely want to check out is the first. They sell edible goods local, foreign, and basic. The problem is that everything is somewhat to grossly overpriced. The local stuff sure - for example, I paid $2.50 a piece for Bev's Bagels (decent, nothing compared to mid tier NYC bagels but better than the vast majority of what you can find in southern Michigan). But for basic (or even foreign) goods it seems ridiculous to buy here instead of a normal grocery store or one of the myriad ethnic shops around. The real star is the cheese selection. They don't have much out, but they have a multi-page list of what they have in stock and they are both knowledgeable and generous with samples. I picked up a really interesting 12-year aged cheddar and tried a few others. There are always a couple of samples out but I've found them unexciting. They have an equally impressive list of meats but I haven't had the chance to explore those. Take the original (and super cool) elevator up to the second or third floors and you can find all kinds of knick knacks from lawn ornaments to Detroit gear. I'm not sure if it was a sale or not, but the last time I was there I picked up a decent quality t shirt for a mere $10. Overall it's a cool store and definitely worth checking out, but unless you're looking for a particularly rare cheese the likelihood of finding anything worth purchasing is slim.

The store is clean and well organized and the employees are friendly and helpful. One of the best things is you can try/taste the cheese. Ask for a taste of a particular cheese you are interested in and an employee will cut the cheese and give you a taste. If you go to Eastern Market, give DeVries & Co. Cheese shop a try. Nice selection of cheese and sauces and gifts in 3 floors.
