This was my go-to salon for some years. As time went on, though, my haircuts became more and more…read moreuneven or unfinished. I had to repair them myself between cuts. I changed up what I wanted and took in photos to show the new direction, but my stylist refused to give me the cut. Twice. Instead, she continued cutting in a shape that was unflattering to my forhead, all the while criticizing...my forehead. I was so unhappy with my hair that I didn't like leaving the house. My stylist also took to criticizing my hair and my cowlick "for my age," not something I needed to hear in a beauty salon. After the second refusal to cut my hair the way I wanted it, I moved on. I have found another place that I am happy with. It's a good salon for certain kinds of clients, but not for me. I'm going to a barber, who doesn't have hurtful commentary on my age. I called ahead on a Saturday morning to ask if they had availability for a wash and blowout and was…read moretold yes. The only question asked was if I'd been there before, nothing about my hair length or thickness. I arrived at 10:30am, confirmed I just wanted a wash and blowout, and mentioned it was for a special occasion and I wanted a quick blowout to save time doing it myself. The wash lasted maybe 3 minutes with no detangling, and my hair went straight from soaking wet to a round brush and blow dryer. I showed a photo and asked for a bouncy blowout, but the stylist kept insisting on using a curling iron, which I didn't want. She also kept commenting on my hair's length and thickness. By 11am she had another client waiting and my hair wasn't even halfway done, and it felt like things were rushed from that point on. I eventually just let her use the curling iron so I could leave. She was friendly, but the result was not what I asked for. I ended up going home and curling my hair myself because it definitely didn't look like I had just been to a salon. I was apprehensive made a consultation to show the stylist exactly what I wanted I had pictures etc and expected and unfortunately I was not listened to I had wanted an Ash or silver to my blonde. And left more gold. $360 and I went home extremely upset. My daughter had her own appointment for her highlights, hers came out better but for a $710. Every few weeks I go to Brooklyn on the weekend, have breakfast and get a very expensive haircut. I said to myself, self. There has to be a better way. If you follow my reviews, I hate Long Island Chinese food, Italian food, no coffee houses and more importantly no good mens barber shops. Then, I remembered the place where I got haircuts as a teenager. When we moved from Brooklyn to our newly built house in Holbrook, every one and every business seemed new. There was a proud Italian gentleman who opened a Barbershop around the corner. He too owned his home around the corner. He started a business, raised his family, just living the American dream. He retired years ago but his son Vinny graduated Sachem with me. I saw him at our HS reunion and said, Vinny! How's it going? Back slaps happen and he said he's still in Holbrook running the family business. (Wheels turning) I hit him up on FB and say Vin can you cut Hipster? Absolutely! He worked on a place in the Lower East Side back in the day as well as being trained by his dad who brought his skills from Italy. When I was a teenager, my mom would throw me some cash and say get you and your brother haircuts! Where do you think we walked to? Walking in today it seems like a totally different operation. I was kidding with Vinny today, I miss the afro hot lamps from the 70s that used to be in this corner. Saturday morning 11:30am its a packed out business. I highly recommend reservations. I show Vinny my Yelp picture and explained how the hipsters cut my hair. He breaks out the clippers and he's now a man on a mission. After my cut that would rival any expensive cut I usually get in Brooklyn/NYC, he takes me to the hairwash station and adds a tingly tea tree shampoo. Then, he rinsed it with a cold finish. Totally impressed with the end result! Listen, if this placed sucked I wouldn't write a Yelp review. I would have said thank you and been on my way. I am telling you, if you know how you want your haircut, Vinny and staff can make it happen. She is the " mane" reason I go to " Hair Force One." Vinny the owner is equally as wonderful. Vinny is an absolute joy to know and be around. If you are " combing" through the yellow pages (I know nobody uses the yellow pages, just seeing if you really read this) looking for a team of experts, contact " Hair Force One." Beware: My daughter went to Razing Hair to get her hair lightened, she brought in a picture of very…read morelight hair so they could see what she wanted. She unfortunately ended up with mousy brown, grey, mud colored hair. She also came home and all the dark dye was left all around her face and through her roots. She had to plead to have them try and fix it. When she went back they (mainly the owner Chris) were rude and short tempered with her. They even said if you just keep washing it, it will lighten up, which means they only used semi-permanent color. They did blow it out and she was hoping she could live with it, but the next day she was crying that they ruined her hair. I then tried calling the owner to discuss having my daughter get her money back, since she was charged $245 for them to destroy her hair. Chris not only was rude and sassy, to say the least, he hung up on me twice and when he finally calmed down and would talk and not scream at me, he said he is sure the only reason my daughter hated her hair was because I told her she looked terrible and then of course he hung up. Even though I was completely disgusted by his comments, I called Razing Hair back to try one more time to rationalize with Chris, but he wouldn't get on the phone, however, when he finally called me back he said he searched and found a picture of my daughter on social media that looked like she loved her hair after it was fixed and he also went on to say that if I continued to call him about this issue he would call my place of work and get me fired for harassment. After all this, the terrible job they did on my daughter's hair and the way we were both spoken to, Chris, the owner actually dared to threaten my livelihood just so he didn't have to do the right thing as a business owner and reimburse an 18 year old, so she could go somewhere else to get her hair fixed. He even continued to say that the last person who tried this he (Chris) actually made sure they got fired from their job. I am flabbergasted that he even has clients. If you want light blond hair, without muddy ash, then Razing Hair is not the place for you. There are numerous talented hairdressers in the towns around where they are located and I suggest you try those, so you can avoid such a horrible experience with a person like Chris, and you will also avoid having him threaten getting you fired from your job just because you are not satisfied with the job they do on your hair. The most ironic part is his website states that they have a 100% satisfaction guaranteed!! Guess that is a lie!!
