I'll admit - I have haircutophobia. Haircutophobia (n): Fear and anxiety over having to get a haircut, and putting off getting a cut as long as possible. Also, fear of scissor-happy hairdressers who take off too much hair and don't listen to your wants and needs. You may ask, "Why Mandi, what caused you to get haircutophobia?" I'll tell you a story. I was four, and I had lovely long, long, curls. My older brother was growing bored of cutting the hair of his teddy bear, so he thought it would be wise to attempt his newfound skills on his kid sister. Guess who started kindergarten that year with an awful bowl haircut to her ears? Yep. This girl. Sigh. As such, ever since that fateful day, my quest for the perfect hairdresser has been on. I realized I had bookmarked this place some time ago, and with an upcoming vacation I decided to call. I asked the receptionist who she recommended for long hair, and she said "Michael". Conveniently, he was available for an appointment the following day at 10:30 am. I came in this morning and met Michael, who recognized me from Sephora days, and I recognized him as well. We were off to a great start, and I immediately felt comfortable. He talked to me about what I wanted and we had our game plan. This is the first time ever at a salon that the person who cut my hair, also washed and blew out my hair. I was VERY impressed with this, as many salons will have one person shampoo you, then you get your haircut, and sometimes another person will blow out your hair. I have A LOT of hair, and I knew it can be a pain to have to blow dry but Michael loved it and said it was one of his favorite parts of doing hair. Umm...then wouldja mind coming by my place every a.m. to do it? Pretty please? I never felt rushed and the total time spent from start to finish was about an hour and fifteen minutes. Michael gave me an AMAZING haircut, I feel like a total superstar. Watch out, Beyoncè! Mandi's in town! This is one of the best, if not THE best, hair cut I have ever had. I've received many compliments already, my parents loved it, the boy loves it, I love it. And as an added bonus, I ran into a few people that I hadn't seen in a very long time at Target afterwards looking fab-u-lous. Don't ya just love that feeling? Extremely unprofessional staff. I was looking forward to my hair cut after reading so many positive reviews here. I had a voicemail from Carolyn stating my appointment was for 2:30, so I had the notion that's when my appointment was. I got a call at a earlier time asking where I was. Dumbfounded, I explained that thats what my voicemail was. They then proceeded to tell me they couldn't accommodate me until hours later. YOU guys made the mistake. I chose this salon because I live down the block and pass by it almost every day. I stopped in to schedule an appointment and was helped right away. They gave me an appointment with Donna. I showed up a bit early but was taken at the time of my appointment. I was a bit nervous because I hadn't had a haircut in a long time. Donna was very sweet. She listened to me and gave me her professional opinion in regards to my hair. She was super sweet, took her time and I absolutely love my hair again. Thank you Donna. I can not give this Salon any stars. I normally don't want to write any negative reviews, but I hope this will help people not to waste their money and be disappointed. The people at the salon were friendly and nice, but the skill level is not there. My 3 daughters and I need a new salon to go to since our old one moved. They all have long straight healthy black hair. They wanted layers, but if you see their hairs, one would think that a child locked herself in the bathroom and cut it herself. I took one of my daughters back to get her hair fix, they made us wait for a long time. I have to ask for my money back then they had someone else to fix it, but it was still so bad that the other two daughters don't want to go back to get it fix. Now we have to search for a new salon. They need to hire better hair stylists. read more

Before and after the salon. I wanted to have full head of highlights ( second time) in attempt to go blonde shade at some point. I thought doing highlights is a gentle way to transition from brunette gradually to blond. Unfortunately, my hair looks even yellow and extremely broken. I lost about 40% of the hair at the salon and had to give me a hair cut. -( They tried to blame on probably some hair mask I used 2.5 weeks ago ( seriously?). I had such a great experience at Salon 3028, I'm really glad that I chose to come here. I had really long hair and when I called to make an appointment I explained that I wanted to get a nice cut and balayage color. Kaitlyn was so helpful and sweet, she suggested Michael for the style I was going for and I'm so glad she did! Michael did an absolutely amazing job with my hair...the cut feels great and he matched a nice, subtle color for my balayage which was exactly what I was looking for. I came across this salon.I saw they had 4 1/2 stars and decided to call. I had super service on the phone they told me not to be afraid. They were going to put me with someone really good. I went February 22 met with Dana S. Wow wow wow what can I say. She was absolutely the best she spent so much time with me before she cut my hair explains so many different styles to me. And then cut away. When I left there I had the biggest smile on my face! She was fabulous. The salon is wonderful the staff Was wonderful!!! What a wonderful salon! I came here based on a review from Christine B. and was glad I did. I was home visiting my Mom and needed a color and cut desperately before a meeting in the city. I had Tony as my stylist and he did a great job with my ombre and cut. I walked out looking and feeling better and that's what everyone wants, right? The salon is clean, they use excellent hair care products and the owner is very nice. Tony, Robert the owner, and other staff have a lot of experience in the hair industry, they also take part in seminars, so they are always ahead of the curve when it comes to new styles, and products. The Salon was beautiful, A MUST GO TO and make sure you see TONY. He was informative, made sure he knew exactly what I wanted and proved he knew his stuff! I went to this salon to get my hair cut and colored. I met with Michael and he sat me down in his chair to have a consultation before I was even shampooed. He wanted to get a feel for what I wanted, and honestly I didn't really know. I told him that I was going to defer to his judgement and he was honest, kind and very informative. During my entire experience he made sure that I was comfortable, and he was genuinely excited about how my hair would turn out. I drove from Port Jefferson to Salon 3028 just so I could get my hair done by one of the best, Kathleen! She is a newbie at this salon, and this salon is so lucky to have her! I would travel anywhere just to have my color and cut done by her. She is a real sweetheart and once you hear her contagious laugh, you will be laughing right next to her. She is so talented and was able to change my dull and broken hair into healthy hair! She is an amazing hair stylist! The staff at the salon were really nice too. I was greeted as soon as I walked in, and the girls who washed my hair were really nice too (probably one of the best head massages I ever had). The biggest downside... the parking! This salon is FABULOUS!!! I just moved to East Northport and was looking for a new salon. I hate having to go through trial and error with my hair as the guinea pig so I looked at different salons in the area for some guidance. This salon had a lot of reviews and pretty good ratings so I gave them a call. I was pleasantly surprised by the friendliness of the receptionist and the time she took to ask me questions about my hair. She scheduled an appointment for me with Jen for the next day. When I arrived at the salon, I was greeted by about 5 people who offered me coffee, chatted pleasantly with me and introduced me to Jen. I was more than blown away at the attentiveness and friendliness of the entire staff. Jen and I discussed my hair, the cut, the look I was going for and the color. After years of being in a hairdresser rut, we found Pat Whittaker at Salon 3028. My kids and I been to her a few times and have found her to be a highly trained hair stylist and colorist. My teenage son loves that she can give a haircut that looks "grown into" and my daughter is blown away by her coloring skills. I am one of those people who rarely, if ever, leave the salon happy with my color or cut! I don't know why but it always takes me a few days to grow into it... if I ever do. Other times I search for someone to fix my hair and usually end up making it worse. I have curly red hair, which is hard enough to work with, plus I am pretty tough to please. I had finally found a salon that I was comfortable with but it was in RVC and after moving to Suffolk County it was so difficult to get to! And I wasn't thrilled there. I searched on yelp for another salon closer to me and came across Salon 3028 and all the wonderful reviews! I called up for a color appointment but wasn't sure exactly what I wanted. Ombre - highlights - single process - NO CLUE! The receptionist asked me several questions, I really felt like she was trying to find me the right fit... well she found the perfect fit for me. I had my appointment with Michael and it was amazing! Michael really listened to me and understood what I was looking for with my color. In the past I had ombre but having a child on the way he knew it would be hard for me to keep up. He suggested some lowlights and a nice glaze to liven up the color and give me the dimension I was looking for. My hair came out beautifully, I couldn't be happier!! Michael also discussed ways we could "change it up" in the future if I wanted to since I get bored easily. Usually with red hair color I go home rush to the shower and wash my hair several times - my color is usually way over the top the first few days and my scalp is bright red. With the lowlights and the glaze Michael was able to give me a perfect look with the perfect color and no need to fix anything!!! I went to Salon 3028 for approximately 8 months. You will always have to wait, regardless of having an appointment. The receptionist Kaitlyn is inefficient, the shampoo girls are clueless, and many of the employees are highly unprofessional. Instead of trying to socialize, the employees should do their job. The owner Rob is inappropriate, telling me as a Doctor that I have porn star hair. I am so glad that I found a legitimate spa. I would never recommend them. His attention was on a young lady who came in & was sitting on the couch not that far from his station. It is my belief that he rushed to do me probably to take care of a regular customer. If you have super long hair and want to maintain your length but just need a "micro-trim", don't shy away from Salon 3028 and ask for Jamie! She is great with natural long hair! My hair is very healthy and it reaches the top of my tailbone and I intend to keep growing it longer. Jamie trimmed off only the ends that were truly damaged and gave me beautiful long layers. So many stylists in other salons in the past have chopped off way too much hair than I asked them to. Also I use henna, and Jamie knows how henna truly works and how great pure henna is for the hair. I wasn't subjected to a "henna is evil" speech that many ignorant hair stylists often give their clients who are going natural. So if you are into natural hair, long hair, or whatever.... Was in town because my dad got sick and soon after died. With relatives descending into town for the funeral---relatives who would no doubt be criticizing my hair---I yelped for a place to get my haircut. Got an appointment with the owner the same day. She did a wonderful job and was so much fun to talk to. I am trying to grow my hair longer so she only took off what was necessary. I really appreciated this since sometimes stylists want to cut off a lot no matter what you say. Kelly even curled my hair at the end because I mentioned I like to curl it. I love this place, I went about 2 weeks ago. I recently moved here from northern Virginia and I've been here 2 times and I gotta say, I love this salon!!! I showed her pictures of what I wanted and she was able to narrow down two swatches to show me which were spot on. I went here based on the reviews I read and haven't looked back since. The prices isn't cheap, but I think its worth it. My hairdresser does my hair style here better than my previous one. I always get compliments on my hair. My hairdresser also spends the time to get my feedback and cut my hair to my satisfaction.
