I usually only write reviews when a product or service has been exceptional. Harbour City Kitchens will be the exception. My husband and I contacted HCK in December of 2024 to start the design process for two custom vanities for our bathrooms that we would be renovating in the summer of 2025. We went to the showroom, well-prepared having already done a lot of research ourselves. The design process was OK but we felt that we had to go over every single email, drawing and attachment with a fine-tooth comb as details on our designs were left out, not updated or our two (very different) vanities were reversed on the drawings. Once we got into the delivery and install phase, it appeared that the left hand did not know what the right hand was doing - there seems to be little communication between the different departments at HCK. Communication with us as clients also left a lot to be desired. It seemed like every email from HCK was from a completely different person, who only knew the details of our project relative to THEIR department. We also had to request on several occasions that emails be sent to BOTH of us as we had to coordinate who was going to be at home when HCK staff came to measure and install. In terms of installation, both vanities were delivered with issues: the first one (September 2025) had defects in the front wood panels, which resulted in another several weeks as the panels needed to be redone. The second vanity arrived incomplete in October 2025 (even though we gave HCK MONTHS for this project) and was missing all its fronts for the drawers and side panels. Some finishing mouldings for the feet were also missing. This alone added on another 4 weeks. It makes no sense to deliver a vanity and then have it installed several days later. On top of that, more miscommunications followed, with HCK literally notifying us of delivery of the remaining vanity pieces while they were already en route - with no advanced warning! Needless to say, we weren't home. You can't make this stuff up. As for positive aspects, I will say that the final product was good and the installer did a great job in spite of him having to make five visits instead of two (not his fault). However, these factors are not enough to inspire us to go with Harbour City Kitchens for our future kitchen project. We will most definitely go with a company that has better communication, processes and oversight within the organization AND with clients. I have read Google reviews and have a hard time believing that so few other people have had issues. I wish I would have checked the reviews on Yelp or even Indeed for a more balanced evaluation of HCK. Bottom line - save yourselves the headaches and frustration of dealing with a company that has poor communication - internally AND with clients, chaotic processes and procedures and little continuity from project start to finish. read more

An aweful experience. Started in June 2023 and promised a kitchen in 5 weeks. Still not done now April 2024. They do a tiny bit then disappear. No communication as to when they will return. Poor quality with tones of errors. Lots of similar reviews including mine on google for them that they manage to remove. Beware. read more

I recommend not using harbour city kitchens. They show very little regard for the customer and zero interest in the quality of their work. A year after install pieces are falling off and sales associate said that is normal wear and tear, funny as the previous kitchen lasted 40yrs. read more

I drove all the way from Sooke as HCK worked on my townhouse. I was looking to reface my cupboards as I like the existing design. I found the staff arrogant and I was advised that is not the kind of work they do. Ok. Except, I am in business and believe if you are unable to meet needs that is an apology not a win. read more

Went to Harbour to have a new high end kitchen in a new build home. The shocking part of this experience was the attitude of the person we were dealing with. To say they were unhelpful is putting it mildly - they clearly couldn't care less and our business didn't mean a thing. This was going to be a very expensive purchase but it now goes to someone else. We have an immediate need to have an existing cupboard modified for our new, taller fridge. Also, in the winter, we're hoping to renovate the whole kitchen. We went to HCK today; the receptionist who helped us was surprisingly unfriendly. She informed us in no uncertain terms that HCK does not modify existing cabinets, just builds new ones. We left feeling foolish for even asking. I completely understand if they don't do this type of small job, but feel there was a friendlier way to handle our inquiry. We'll find someone else for both our immediate job and the longer-term renovation. HCK: unfriendly front desk staff give a poor first impression. read more

Overall the quality and service has been excellent. Kerry is amazing and attentive and we are very satisfied with her work! The one and only irritating and grating thing is one of the girls that works on their front reception. The reason for the three stars is that no matter what you need this front desk person will not lift a finger, offer help and her tone always grates you to the point that she makes you feel like you are an annoyance. This will be he best part of never dealing with this company is not talking to her. read more

I've dealt with Harbour City multiple times. I've found them professional, price competitive and they stand behind their product. They have come out a few years later to adjust drawers which I was very happy about. read more

We had a small kitchen designed and installed by Harbour Kitchens. The outcome was ok, the process was less than appealing. There were errors with the design, all of the errors caused delays of a few weeks. The counter had to be recut and the side cabinets were backwards. As we needed to proceed, we opted to keep the cabinets as is, but we needed new doors to fit. We contacted Harbour Kitchens on both issues. No one came to look as the problems, we were given option and we proceeded. I felt like an inconvenience to them. Maybe the project was too small to warrant more involvement, but I feel that my business should be as important as anyone's. On our first visit we ask for help on the design. At no time were we informed that this was a $500 fee, non-refundable. I gave no problem with this, I just wish there had been full disclosure. Now we have received a message indicating we have an outstanding balance, as the project was completed (February). When the contract was signed and our credit information provided, I was told that the final payments would be applied to our card on delivery, in unable to do this, the project would not proceed. From this, I understood that all charges would be made in a timely manner, I guess not. For small projects I would not recommend this company. read more

DO NOT USE HARBOUR CITY KITCHENS Unless you want to redo your kitchen cupboards in 5 years. Every drawer bottom, 16 in total, have fallen out if not once but two or three times since installed. The bottoms were quickly nailed together with 8 finishing nails, no glue, no careful grooving to add support, just small nails. I've had to use screws to add security to these drawers to prevent this from happening. I called them up when this first happened and I got the run around and was also accused of putting too much weight into the drawers. The cutlery drawer was the first to fall out. Luckily it got jammed in the cupboard otherwise it would have fallen onto my wife's or kids legs and feet. They poorly put the cupboards together, then get some person who I don't believe is even qualified to install the cupboards, put them in. I several spots, he missed the wall stud 4 times. You can see 4 screws in on area where he tried and failed. The company even backed him on his efforts saying that sometimes it is difficult to conduct installations by oneself. Why was he installing upper cupboards by himself if he could not find where the wall stud was and as well why was he working alone. This is a company that cuts corners, cheaply does the work and blames their mistakes on what they call "the customer's carelessness". They didn't even try to fix the problem nor even see what happened. Also HCK is not even BBB accredited. Before you look at any company, ensure they are registered first with the BBB. This way you can see if they are a reputable company. Harbour City Kitchen's clearly is not and should be avoided to save you money and headaches. I have to have all the drawers redone because of their cheap quality and poor craftsmanship. Sorry to see that you bought from HCK Steve. We used this company three years ago and were completely satisfied with the 6' bathroom vanity they custom built and installed. We recently ordered another very similar vanity for another bathroom in our house. When we tried to contact the company to follow up on a very unsatisfactory installation (cabinet was damaged, drawer hardware didn't work, floating box not properly built etc.) we got no return on emails or phone calls for days. Only when we asked for the manager did we get connected to the person in charge of installation. Ultimately we rejected the 6 drawers which were then redone and a second (very good) installer returned twice to fix all the damage done to the cabinet on the initial installation. In addition the 3'x4' custom framed mirror was poorly installed by the first guy and when we got no call back from the company again we went to Picture Perfect Gallery and purchased hardware to properly hang the mirror ourselves so it wasn't swinging around. We realize we were a small project ($3200) but the lack of prompt, professional communication and no apology except for blaming a new guy for the poor quality product they first delivered leaves me no choice but to say I wouldn't recommend them for your cabinets. It's too bad because I always want to support local companies but such poor service can't be rewarded. read more
