TASK: Remove existing backsplash and countertop and install a new backsplash and countertop. PROBLEM 1: NEITHER THE DEMOLITION CREW NOR THE INSTALLATION CREW WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR PREPPING THE COUNTERTOPS. Nothing was covered. All contents of the drawers were contaminated by demolition materials. In addition, during the demolition, the underlayment of the countertops was damaged. As stated in the contract, this was not to be addressed by Granite and Marble Specialists (GMS). Once the island countertop was removed, you could see that a heavy layer of glue remained on the underlay. The installers said that that was not their responsibility. They installed the countertop over the uneven underlayment of the residual glue. This meant that there were up to 1/2 inch gaps between the counter and the underlayment, stretching a span of 108.5 inches. Over time, this will lead to instability and breakage of the stone. The installers forged ahead and installed the new countertop independent of the gaps. The installers were adamant that they had installed the island countertop to level. RESULT: We had to remove the new countertop and have the surface sanded to level before having them reinstall the countertop. PROBLEM 2: NEITHER THE DEMOLITION CREW NOR THE INSTALLATION CREW WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR PREPPING THE BLACKSPLASH AFTER DEMOLITION. This meant that it was the homeowner's responsibility to install drywall and to make sure that the backsplash was level. The backsplash was 1.5 inches unlevel from one end of the backsplash to the other. Thus, in addition to the provision of drywall because the existing drywall was damaged during demolition, we had to shim the drywall to ensure the backsplash was level for the backsplash installation. RESULT: We had to go buy wood, cut it to the specific dimensions and install the new underlayment for the backsplash. IN SUM: GMS provided what the contract stated, an installed countertop and backsplash. It was not stated in the contract that it be level or that it be level to the degree that it was level prior to the new installation. The installers showed it to be level because the countertop was 108.5 inches long X 46 inches wide X 3cm deep. So, BEWARE. If this is the type of installation you are looking for, this is the organization for you. read more

She sent me the cost estimate which I approved but never heard back. This literally went on for weeks. One should never have to chase down a provider so you can give them money. I had a granite bathroom countertop installed yesterday. This is a great company to work with start to finish.Their work is top notch and the product in the end is beautiful. The installation crew that came yesterday was polite and covered my floors with a tarp from the front door up 2 flights of stairs to the bathroom. They had to carry a 6ft long piece of granite up 2 flights of stairs and they were so careful not to nick a wall or anything. I like being able to pick out the granite at their showroom or in this case a picked out a piece in their remanent yard and they come out and measure and then do their on mill work at the warehouse. This is the 3rd time I've used them for granite so if you want quality and good customer service this is the place to go. read more

I needed an emergency repair to my kitchen sink and they responded really fast, so for that I'll rate them higher, but after having to clean up after the two non English speaking gentlemen and having to re do one of the brackets he installed wrong and not being told the repairs were going to be performed the way they were, I give 1 star. I think I know why the other 3 companies were too busy to respond quickly, because they are up front and know what they're doing. My biggest mistake was not hiring this company first. After a big box brand left my kitchen wrecked, I made contact with Selene at G&M Specialties and she worked diligently with me to get my beautiful new countertops installed. She was patient and extremely knowledgeable about this work and always had my wants and needs as her focus rather than up-selling. She was on site and involved each step of the way working with the measurer and installers addressing every detail throughout the process. The installers did an amazing job and my kitchen is looking a hundred times better. Now I'm crossing my fingers and waiting for big box to fix my cabinets. I should have gone to Selene first. Biggest issues were poor customer support, poor interdepartmental communication between their teams, and poor plumbing. When management was alerted to issue with plumber, they apologized, were "embarrassed" and said they would speak with the plumber and follow up with me to make things better. Numerous attempts to discuss, no response. Don't pay in full until the work is completed (even if plumber is currently completing the last steps). One team provides great ideas, which the other team is unable to apply. Best part is, you learn this while the installation is underway. Also, review your estimates closely. We've built a 1,300 SF addition to our home including a kitchen and two bathrooms. For these, we decided to go with Quartz and looked around to find a local countertop shop. Building the 1,300 SF addition has been quite a learning experience, mostly because contractors tend to be unreliable and unless every single detail is managed by you, the owner, it just doesn't get done right. Having had such such a poor experience with the general contractor, drywall subcontractors, and so on, I was extremely nervous and cautious about picking the right counter top company to go with. Luckily, I came across Granite & Marble Specialties on the web. What attracted me to them was that they appeared to be very professional and use cutting edge technology to do their work. We visited GMS and worked with Connie who helped us pick the perfect counter top for us, given our color scheme, cabinets, and other materials. I loved the fact that she had a lot of design experience and could guide given our preferences. When Eugene came to make the template, he used some sort of a 3-d mapping machine which took very precise measurements of our walls. I didn't realize that even in brand new constructions, it's common to have waves and imperfections in the walls. A few days later, when the counter tops arrives for installation, I was stunned at how perfectly they fit the kitchen and bathrooms. It was literally millimeter precision. I've never seen work this precise. I found out that they use the 3-d mapping technology with robotic cutting machines that create the absolute perfect fit, specifically designed for your kitchen. Suffice is to say, I'm incredibly happy with the quality of their work, the professionalism and helpfulness, and the speed at which everything was done. We ordered a table from a big store in October of last year. The marble top for that table kept arriving broken. After waiting for 5 months, we decided to look locally for a top. Very disappointed with this vendor, as their customer service was absolutely appalling. We went to their Kent facility and picked out a remnant for a kitchen countertop. When I returned home, I e-mailed Ms. Leyla Aliyeva the exact specifications we needed (also providing her with a spec diagram.) I then paid for the countertop. The next day Ms. Aliyeva e-mailed to say that she needed a photo of the remnant we selected in order to locate it. She did not advise us to take a photo when we selected the particular remnant, so we assumed she had marked it accordingly. Now she informs me that "It is not her job to advise me to take a photo, nor is it her job to keep track of what the customer wanted to order." As a result, we wound up canceling the sale in disgust. An extremely poor example of customer service and very unprofessional treatment. Hard to imagine anyone can go about this process so badly. read more
