I've been back twice since my dental surgery and am really, really happy I found this dental office. I went for a cleaning (my first in probably 15 years) a couple weeks ago, and my hygienist, Nadia, was wonderful. She was super empathetic about my gag reflex and worked with me on ways to minimize it while doing X-rays. She was also super communicative with me about the other steps of the exam so that I wasn't caught off guard by anything. Dr. Le is fantastic. He was kind and conversational, and he conveyed information without being condescending. I really appreciated that he suggested a more conservative approach to the issues I had as opposed to jumping straight to a root canal. I came back a couple weeks later for a couple fillings, and my experience with light sedation was amazing. I took oral medication before arriving and was set up with nitrous once I arrived. Dr. Le and the hygienist (Patrice, I believe) were again fantastic. While I don't think I completely fell asleep, I was definitely zoned out for a big chunk of it and felt super calm. For someone with PTSD and a fear of needles, that's an unbelievable feat. Speaking of needles, when possible, they use a special machine that makes the lidocaine injection so much more comfortable that I was barely even aware of it being used. One final note: the front office staff is great, too. They are highly communicative and easy to get in touch with. And I've never had to wait in the waiting area for more than a few minutes. (I'm sure exceptions to that happen, but I'd feel confident it's in emergency situations and not an everyday habit the way it can be at other offices.)

Carlson dental group is amazing. They are careful, thorough, gentle, mindful, and quick all at the same time. Never more than a 5 minute wait any time I've been there. I've NEVER had them "recommend" work that didn't need to be done or try to tack on extra services that are not needed. They always ask if I have any concerns and completely answer those concerns before proceeding to complete the routine services that I am there for. I've been lucky enough to remain with the same hygienists (Amy & Tyra) the entire time I've been a patient there. They have become great friends and THAT is the kind of healthcare we should all be so lucky to have!! The docs are fantastic, as well. I've not needed one for anything other than a routine exam........... but they have still been professional and "human" as opposed to stiff and "clinical!' HIGHLY RECOMMEND CARLSON DENTAL GROUP!!!

The front end staff is the nicest and friendliest group I've ever seen at a business in Saint Johns. Make sure you request an appointment with Dr. J. No, he didn't play in the ABA or NBA. His dental philosophy is the less drilling the better for your long term dental care. I had to have a crown put in where on had fallen out and was no where to be found. Dr. J. went above and beyond to make sure the temporary fit perfect. They also have state of the art equipment to find cavities under previous fillings and crowns to prevent possible very expensive root canals down the road. I've tried more than a few dentists in Saint Johns since moving here about 15 years ago and Dr. J at Beachside Family Dentistry is by far the best. Add in the friendly staff who many knew me by name the 2nd time I walked in the door one can't lose.

I was a new patient and let me tell you from beginning to end the service was spectacular! The fear i had wasn't even there because of how wonderfully I was taken care of and especially the delicate hands of the specialist/dentist, was informed every step on what was going on and what was getting done. Towards the end of everything I spoke about my needs and what the next steps would be (again all with smile). I went to Dr. Adam Cohlmia to replace an ill-fitting crown placed by another dentist. I was very…read moreclear from the start that the crown's fit, color, size, and position were critical, as I'd been struggling with chewing, talking, persistent facial pain, headaches, and even feeling the old crown pressing against my lip. I trusted Dr. Cohlmia to address these issues, but unfortunately, the experience was both disappointing and deeply upsetting. Dr. Cohlmia removed the old crown, rebuilt my tooth, and placed a permanent crown. While the temporary crown offered some relief, the permanent crown caused immediate problems. My headaches and facial pain returned, the crown was visibly whiter than my natural teeth, and it protruded against my lip. On top of that, it "clanged" against my bottom teeth while chewing and caused me to bite my tongue, leading to significant discomfort. I scheduled a follow-up appointment for an adjustment, and while it helped briefly, the same issues returned within days. When I called for a second adjustment, I had to follow up multiple times before I was seen. During this appointment, Dr. Cohlmia's demeanor had changed drastically. He appeared visibly annoyed, and his tone was dismissive and gruff. He argued with me, repeatedly saying, "I don't know what you're complaining about; the crown looks great." I tried to explain that the issue wasn't about how it looked but how it felt, as I was still in pain, unable to eat normally, and relying on Tylenol to get through the day. Rather than addressing my concerns, Dr. Cohlmia became increasingly hostile. He raised his voice, called my concerns "ridiculous," and sarcastically suggested refunding me, saying, "How about I refund the crown because nothing is wrong with it?" At this point, I felt trapped, embarrassed, and overwhelmed. Dr. Cohlmia was standing over me, visibly angry, and his dismissive attitude left me in tears. The patient rooms lack privacy, so this entire exchange could be overheard by others. When I agreed to the refund just to end the confrontation, he stormed out of the room yelling, "So ridiculous!" My embarrassment only grew when the front desk staff asked me to open my mouth and show my crown to them in front of other patients. To make matters worse, the office couldn't issue the refund that day and refused to provide written confirmation, simply stating I'd receive a check by mail within 30 days. The entire ordeal was humiliating and unprofessional. Dr. Cohlmia's care fell far below any reasonable standard. From dismissing my pain to his unprofessional and aggressive behavior, he showed a lack of compassion, understanding, and basic respect. I trusted him to help me with a difficult situation, but I left feeling worse physically and emotionally. If he wasn't capable of handling this case, he should have said so upfront instead of responding with hostility when the crown required multiple adjustments. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone seeking competent or compassionate dental care.
