I'm a bit curious how these places can't find paper and biodegradable container options, nothing quite like getting forty dollars of food in college dorm room styrofoam. These guys really deserve their own proper setup to match the menu and tastes. Everything from crab Rangoon to each roll was phenomenal. The inside atmosphere tries hard too, feels decently like an established Japanese restaurant. Of course the value is non-existent for sushi these days except buying in Asia, I will try the hibachi next time to bring wallet and appetite together.

There's something comforting about a place that's been doing its thing since 1954, and clearly doing it right. The display case? Dangerous. In the best way. Everything looked so inviting it turned into a full internal debate between my eyes, my taste buds, and my very real pastry weakness. Spoiler: the pastries won. The donuts were some of the best I've had in a long time. Soft, light, just the right amount of sweet without tipping into sugar overload. My favorite was the one that reminded me of a palmier... flaky, delicate, and honestly a little heavenly. Service could use a bit of an upgrade on the friendly department. We're in the middle of a six-week road trip, and this stop, a small detour between Chicago and St. Louis, ended up being one of those unexpectedly perfect moments. Good coffee, great donuts, and a bonus hit of Route 66 nostalgia (yes, I'm fully that person). If you're anywhere nearby, don't overthink it. Just go. We were promptly greeted and given lunch and specials menus. The menu is enormous and plenty of choices for any palate. I found what I wanted, bean tostadas and cheese enchiladas. I love the finely shredded white cheese they sprinkled on top of the bean tostadas. I got the Vegetarian C plate which was $10.99. I admit I was not too crazy about the cheese enchilada but it was OK. I was pleased that the server allowed me to get another bean tostada in place of the bean burrito. We shared a bowl of white queso dip yummmmmm! Hot gooey deliciousness. It was a very generous serving and we took some of it home. Cousin got the Burrito Tapatio holy cow it is the biggest burrito ever!!!! There should be a warning on the menu to let customers know it is the size of your head. Seriously. It's got several of their own beers on tap along with a few others. There's also more cans in a refrigerator. Has the basics along with a few interesting ones. More than just the IPAs and the usual. It's about $7 a pint. The Farmer's Favorite is the IPA and is a pretty good medium one that's crisp and smooth. Has a few things to snack on here. It's about $3 for the Krack Mix. Basically like Chex Mix but it's made locally. They also will let you bring in stuff. Great place that's pretty hard to find the first time going here. It's located on N. 2500 East Rd. a few miles north of Fairbury surrounded by corn fields pretty much. They're closed Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.

We got there about 30 minutes before close and the barista was super nice as we ordered our drinks. Emily got a caramel latte and I got the.. you guessed it... an iced americano. We also grabbed a blueberry-lemon, cranberry-orange, and birthday cake scone. While we stood there as the barista was making our drinks, we chatted her up a bit and we were able to get a few free stickers from her. She said they don't use them all too much and was happy to give us two each. Once we got our drinks, we took off to the upper part of the coffeehouse and promised we wouldn't be too long since they were closing soon. Before we headed upstairs, I took some photos with the suit of armor that is by the counter. When we got upstairs, I was surprised to see another suit of armor, so I took a photo with that one, too. The Cup and The Scone specializes in a lot of gluten-free products and a small bit of religion. I don't know if their entire menu is gluten-free but as someone who's mom is gluten sensitive (and I will probably be at some point), the care about GI issues is great. As for the religious stuff, if you don't see the occasion bible strewn about the place, you'd honestly never know. But, their website seems to support helping people and I think that also is super great as this world is getting rough and scary. Any who, Emily and I really enjoyed our drinks.
