I enjoy Bloomington Meats, but don't enjoy going. They could easily change my rating to 4 or 5 if they had better customer service and a friendlier atmosphere. I have never went and felt like they wanted me to be there or happy to have me as a customer. I prefer College Hills better, it is nicer. I haven't compared prices between the two, but if I was told College Hills is more expensive, for the better treatment, I would hand over a few more sheckles. I am aware that Bloomington Meats store looks bare bones and unappealing. Maybe that's how they like it. It seems to fit the attitude received. The decor, the drabness of the building, may be off-putting to some customers. That didn't effect my rating. Inside I know they run a clean butchering business and with the prices, they earned 3 stars. My recommendation: Greet every customer, be polite and happy, offer assistance and/or give recommendations. Could very easily be a 5 star establishment. read more

Quality ingredients makes for a better meal, I am a firm believer of that. I am so glad to find such a friendly local butcher shop, in fact a little mad at myself for not stopping here sooner. They got a variety of meats, house made brats, burgers, and more!!! They also have lamb and bison meats and parts of cows and pigs that are less often used. They got a lot of things out in the display cases and freezers. If there's something you don't see or need specifically, they are beyond happy to help. In my case I needed soup bones and beef shank, both things they don't have out in the front of the store and I know I won't find In grocery stores. They fired up the saw and cut the bone down into sizable segments and trimmed the shank for me. I thanked them a ton since they definitely went out of their way for me I felt. I honestly didn't pay attention to the price, I was just happy I got all the ingredients I needed, in addition I picked up a pack of bacon cheddar burgers. Everything was ~$20 at the end, so not bad in my opinion. read more

Good prices on great quality meats. The brats are fantastic (I always make sure to have some of the gyro and habanero brats on hand) the hot dogs, even, are great. Really good bacon. The buffalo filets should not be missed. The monthly bundles can be great deals. Good price for arm roasts and heel cuts, particularly. Staff is friendly and helpful. There's little reason to buy meat elsewhere. read more

I came here for the first time today but knowing they were here from tasting their fresh meat at a food show in March. The choices are outstanding, the prices are even better! I walked out with everything I wanted for under $30 and wanted so much more just didn't have the room for, but will definitely be going back!!! I have found Bloomington Meats to have excellent meat. I also like their "extra's" especially the "ham salad". I found that you only have to move to the counter to get checked out or receive any answers you need. This is a great local meat store where they offer a great variety of meats and cuts that are all fresh and not frozen previously like at the store or treated with chemicals. The staff is very friendly and they offer package meat bundles and a senior discount (once a week check their site it currently is Wednesdays). They also offer condiments which is handy! Local laid eggs, cheese, and even frozen rolls from a popular steakhouse! It is where I buy all my meat. read more

Sooo not pleased with this facility! Be careful of having your deer processed at this facility! We took in a 190 lbs deer and got 1 back strap, and stew meat!!!! Whaaaa? What happened to our roasts and steaks? We got a butt load of stew meat that was not processed so spent an hour cleaning up the membranes and tendons to make the meat even edible!! When confronted about where our meat was they went in back and brought out other people's meat to give us. read more

Just got home from Bloomington Meats. I purchased a sampler package. You get a lot of meat for a great price. I had to try their jerky first, it's part of the package. It's amazing! I could eat the whole package. I've never had jerky this good. Also, everything I purchased was packaged today so it's extremely fresh. I can't wait to try everything else! Blooming Meats is my favorite butcher in the Bloomington/Normal Area. The store is clean and the staff is great. They have had every cut of meat I have asked them for. Hands down the only place in Bloomington/Normal to buy quality meat. Some people have a habit of going to a place on College Ave... I tried that and there is simply no comparison. It is absolutely worth the drive to South Bunn street. Options abound for local ingredients; meat, cheese, eggs etc. The freshness, taste and quality just can't be beat. I've lived in the area 20 years and am VERY serious about my food. This and Common Ground/Farmers Market are the ONLY places I will buy meat and I've tried every place in town over the decades. read more

Would normally say this place has very good meat and the prices are good as well but recently I was here on a Sunday afternoon about 1:30 and my experience was not good. There were 2 girls and 2 boys working....well not really. The line was backed up as it usually is because this place is very busy and they were in a line behind the meat counter just talking and laughing while customers waited in line to pay. Everyone seemed disgusted. BUT the worst part was, one of the young men came out from what appears to be a break room and had his fingers in his mouth picking his teeth. I watched as he continued doing this then went behind the counter and proceeded to stand with the others. Then I watched as he went to the back and with the same hands that were in his mouth a few moments earlier, come back with a stack of pork chop sandwiches and proceeded to wrap them. Did not wash his hands or put on gloves. I was disgusted! Someone else noticed it too and left. I watched this young man put his fingers in his mouth 2 more times while chatting with his coworkers. This is disgraceful. I was angry and my first thought was to come on here but I decided to email Bloomington meats first in hopes of getting a reply from them. I got nothing. Very disappointed. That is no way to run a meat store. read more

Bloomington Meats processed my venison because I din't have the time nor the cooling ability this past year. I want to start by saying, that my DOG could process this meat better. An extremly sloppy job, and when I recieved it back, I still had to freezer wrap my own meat. What type of locker plant freezes meat that dosen't at least try to protect it for the consumer or customer. The meat was not trimmed like I ask for it to be, streaks were rolled up and frozen in a circle not flat, deer hair was not washed out, THEY GROUND THE BEST PART OF THE DEER (LOINS) etc. Overall I WILL NEVER RECOMEND OR RETURN to BLOOMINGTON MEATS FOR Processing! All there other products are great though which surprises me! read more

We are regular customers of Bloomington Meats. My husband placed an order for a standing crown roast of pork for Christmas dinner over 2 weeks ago here. He told them exactly what he wanted, and how many we would be serving. A standing crown roast is a very standard thing...cannot be misunderstood. When my husband arrived to pick it up, he was given a slab of meat, and told that the number we were serving was not enough to make a crown with, and that they didn't form crown roasts, anyway. This is information that should have been given UP FRONT. Now my husband is running around Bloomington trying to find one to salvage Christmas dinner, and I have a tiny slab of pork that is useless to me. I called to tell them how disappointed I was in the knowledge level of their staff who took the order, and all I got was a very insincere apology. Obviously, disappointing a good customer means nothing to this company. Thanks for adding stress to the holidays. read more

I've had mixed experiences with Bloomington Meats. They cut a pork shoulder for me no questions asked and staff was helpful and pleasant. On a different visit, I asked for St.Louis style ribs. A less than helpful employee told me they could sell me spare ribs and then charge me double to cut off the rib tips. So to be clear, a butcher shop did not feel like butchering meat for a customer...ironic. I probably won't be going back. read more
