Update: had an issue with the truffles but Ms Martin took care of it September 23, 2020 --------------- Evacuated from Galveston because of tropical storm Beta. While staying in Buna with family...we came in for some afternoon java...and treats! Cute shop with tasty sweets...cake, truffles, cake balls, macarons and cupcakes/muffins. We got iced cappuccino, skinny vanilla latte along with macarons, truffles and a piece of Carmel apple cake. Everything was fresh and delicious. They also had cute tee shirts, naked bee products, Daddy's seasoning, fresh coffee beans and tea for purchase. Lounge area with free WiFi. I ordered an iced "Montana" which was their regular roast with espresso with SF vanilla and SF coconut. This is what I received.... The ice was completely melted and it honestly looks like tea. It didn't taste terrible but I probably won't be back. The overall appearance of it looks gross. Service was good.

I have been here several times and have tried cold and hot drinks. All have been delicious! Their macarons are really yummy too! There are also lots of places to sit if you want to stick around. You can't go wrong supporting this local coffee shop! read more

I am writing this review as we wait for our breakfast sammies! We walked in just after breakfast had ended, and the girls were SO sweet and pulled out their breakfast prep for us anyway and made us some croissants sandwiches. We are in town for business just for the weekend, and we were hoping to find a little cafe that served some simple and delicious snacks. Our sandwiches came out lightening fast, and as I assumed, they are delicious! They even had decaf espresso, AND coconut milk! Score!! Lots of different pastries are offered in their display case, AND they import their macarons from a company in France! The owner Diane is so gracious, and even took the time to educate us on the area for our benefit. This place is not to be missed! Skip the Waffle House and come here instead! read more

Great ambiance! Beautiful and yummy deserts! Unfortunately, the coffee was weak and it took 25 minutes to receive. The young cashier was very slow and I had to repeat my order three times. This is a New Business, so , I will give it a few months to mature and the go back and review again. All in all I believe it has a fair chance of surviving. read more

Seriously obsessed with this place! Such a gem that Lumberton was in such need of. My general order is a cappuccino with almond milk and one of the treats they have baked up! I recommend the pretzel sandwiches (truly you can't go wrong with any of them). The atmosphere is warm and cozy, and they offer you games and wifi here. Always something to do, wether it's reading a book and curling up on one of the sofas sipping a tea or coming with friends and playing checkers and eating some quality yummy snacks. (they offer gf items here for all the gluten sensitives!) Great staff and customer service. So excited for this new business thrive!! :) read more

My wife wanted a cake for her birthday that Hard Bean had never made before. In spite of that, they quickly agreed to figure out how to make one, after another bakery had turned me down. The cake turned out looking great, and it tasted amazing! My wife couldn't have been more pleased! We have also been very impressed with Hard Bean's commitment to helping others. During Harvey, Imelda, and now Covid 19, the folks at Hard Bean have gone above and beyond to lend a helping hand. We are huge fans of this great local business! read more

This is the best coffee shop in town. Very modern feel and newly renovated. The owner and staff are always welcoming and helpful. The service has always been quick and the food is amazing. I stop here all the time before or after work for a coffee and a small bite. Don't even bother wasting your time going to another place in town. read more

Almost found the place by accident. It's off the beaten path. Huge and delightful surprise. Staff was super friendly, polite and efficient. Food was surprisingly good. They have great coffee drinks. I had the white chocolate latte, and it was very good. My wife and I both had the colatches (sp?), which is a Texas thing, I think, a yeast roll with cheese and sausage; very good as well. They also make macarons, which I'd give a 4 out 5. Apparently, they had been refrigerated which made the middle icing a little stiff, but the flavor was great. I'd definitely be a regular here if I wasn't just passing through for the night. read more

I adore this place. The ladies are always so sweet and helpful. The owner is very kind as well and she really knows her coffee. Anytime I want to try something new I can just ask her and she has the best suggestion. Anytime I've tried something I haven't liked or wasn't made right (twice maybe, everything's been so good) they're happy to remake it for me. They have a large selection of flavors and quite a few sugar free flavors too! I'm stuck on their Matcha Green Tea lattes which are the best I've ever had! read more

Very clean and the staff was friendly. People in Lumberton pay have money to pay for expensive coffee but the prices are higher than Starbucks, and not very good. Spend almost $5 on cheesecake was that good but not $5 good. 2 vanilla frappes and a slice of cheesecake.. $13. I was hoping for something close by to home that wasn't as high as Starbucks, but left disappointed. Will definitely still make the drive to Starbucks in Beaumont.. It's worth it. Best coffee ever coming from a major coffee enthusiast. Starbucks should take some lessons from this magnificent"mom & pop" coffee shop. The vanilla macaroons....OMG. Staff and service are above and beyond my expectations!Love love this place. At first I was disappointed about there being no drive through but then I was enlightened..Curbside service!!!!!!! Really loved this place! Me and two of my friends are working in Lumberton for the next few months and we have already got coffee here twice! Great atmosphere and the customer service is wonderful! I loved the music they had playing and the drinks were amazing! I got the Berry Blast Tea, seriously amazing! And the little individual Key Lime Pie's.... so good. will be back for sure! read more

The coffee here is not good. Their "esspresso" is not esspresso. There is hardley any caffine in their coffee. Ive given them a few trys being they are the only coffee shop in Lumberton but, i wish i had not. Their pastrys are never cooked all the way and the dough is raw in the middle. read more

We are the first Hard Bean coffee to open in the South! We opened in Feb of 2016 and made the 100th Hard Bean to open. The company has been in the North for over 25 years.

Meet the Business Owner: Diane M.

Diane M. is the owner. I retired from being a VP in a large Retail company. I wanted to bring a coffee shop to Lumberton that would give the community a place to gather and for families to enjoy. We have games for your enjoyment, we often have live music on the weekends.

Parking lot is only one lane wide, but you should still be able to find parking. Know your limits. There are three sizes: 4 inch Skinny, 8 inch Original, 12 inch Big. The Hunny had a Chicken Club, I had Mama's Meatball. I marked mine down to 3 star because I had multigrain bread, and the strange grain taste overwhelmed everything else, and I've had better meatballs. The Hunny liked hers, and was pleasantly surprised to see bacon in there. For the less important things: Decor didn't really stand out. Service was with a smile. I joked about getting multigrain bread ("can you tell I'm from California?"), and the girl said "so's my boyfriend. He loved this one sandwich shop where he came from, and he said that Potbelly is better!" I doubt that anything can beat Capriotti's, but maybe there are selections at Potbelly that do. I'll need to investigate, heh heh. I ate at Firehouse Subs some time ago, and I think their food is better. I may have just gotten a raw deal at Potbelly this time, or maybe I should get white bread instead. Whatever. Potbelly Sandwich Shop is an option if you're in the area.

We arrived in the late morning to a mostly empty dining room, quiet and calm in that comforting way that makes you slow down a little. I ordered our coffees at the counter from a lovely and genuinely helpful barista who got to work right away, no fuss, just that easy rhythm you hope for on a relaxed morning. We settled in for about an hour, enjoying our drinks and a fabulous blueberry muffin while the day moved around us. Even during this slower stretch there was a steady flow of customers drifting in and out, plus two folks in the corner pounding away at their laptops, adding a little background energy without breaking the peaceful feel of the place. I ordered the hot biscuits and strawberry butter. The biscuits by themselves were good and then add the yummy strawberry butter and it was delicious. The nutty Jerry is an iced hazelnut latte that was very good. It has two shots for the medium one shot for the small two shots for the large and then I think three shots for the extra large.. I went through the drive-through cannot rate the ambience inside. If ordering food be prepared to wait a little longer than if you just order coffee. It says we are not a fast food restaurant. Your food is made fresh every order so please be patient.

Fantastic place. The owner goes above and beyond to make sure her customers are satisfied. If you have a complaint here, it's because you didn't let her know you were unhappy. She goes the extra mile to ensure you are pleased with every purchase made. The prices are very fair for the quality of the items offered. The coffee is so much better than a lot of "other places". This is an authentic Italian coffee shop, therefore many of the items are prepared differently than the more "Americanized" places. A vast majority of the breakfast items and desserts are homemade right in their kitchen so they are fresh and delicious. I highly recommend the chai tea latte with honey and cinnamon!! You won't taste a better one! Try their lunch. Try their desserts. Try their drinks. You won't be disappointed and if you are...it's because you failed to let the owner or the staff know about it! read more

Whether I go in for coffee (the Mocha Latte is my fav), breakfast/lunch (fruit and nut chicken salad is killer), or a sweet snack, I'm always greeted with a smile. The service is normally fast, depending on how busy they are. The public uses Hard Bean in Lumberton as a meeting place for people to conduct business meetings, small groups for churches or students doing homework. I have ordered cakes on many occasions that were all delicious (my favorite so far was the lemon blueberry!). The owner is very active in our community and supports many charitable organizations around town. read more

This is my absolute favorite place to get coffee ever. The people are very nice, the coffee is so good, they have delicious food, and a comfortable place where you can sit and visit with friends.
