There are individual trails off the main trail where you walk through mud, dirt, and thick brush, so keep that in mind. For the trails less traveled, look out for the spider webs! Some of the trails lead down to the river. There are playgrounds, a bathroom area (not sure if it was open), and a one big gazebo if you want to rent the space for an event. If you want to get a nice walk or run in without a lot of people, this park is perfect.

I was searching for a nice local playground. When I saw the YMCA, I thought there had to be one…read moreclose by. When I saw the Dekalb Parks and Recreation sign, I knew I hit a jackpot. I wasn't searching for the latest playground tech, just enough to keep my toddlers entertained. I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived to this playground. It has fun things for all ages. I wish it would get a good pressure wash at least once/year. Nonetheless, it has swings, slides, rock climbing, monkey bars, giant swing, giant spinner, zip-lining, and tent areas for grilling and/or entertaining. Did I mention the YMCA has a water park? It's a special bonus. We'll be back for sure!

The weather was perfect and the knowledgeable rangers led us on an educational flora and fauna hike. We learned about different plants and mosses growing on the mountain. We even saw a pair of ducks and their nest of eggs. It was the perfect way to spend a Sunday morning.

The land is interesting, a mix of rocky and verdant terrain. Some dirt trails divert off into the woods. There are a few substantial parking areas. Each ranger was so welcoming, knowledgeable, and answered all our questions. One ranger was so knowledgeable about the flora and fauna in and around the mountain. One ranger was a bird expert and shared their binoculars with us and showed us how to use a bird call app to figure out how to identify all the fowl we saw. The other ranger told us lots of stories of the history of the park. It was a great experience and I highly recommend you try it.

There's parking less than a half mile of the main entrance the only thing about that is you have to get there early . Parking lot holds maybe 25 vehicles. When I pulled in there were 6 cars. I entered the trail on the south entrance. I saw no one ! I was looking around and behind me to make sure it was okay as I was alone. I finally came up behind 2 guys that were walking up ahead. I had been out there maybe 20 min. Saw a large Buck (deer) tried to get a pic but he ran when I pulled out the phone . The trails are completely paved with several wooden bridges along the way. Off pavement trails throughout the park. I did not venture off bc again I was alone and I'm not really familiar with the park. Great park to get you in top tier shape. Winding curves and elevation along the trail. Plenty of shade as the trees hover over . It reminds you of Stone Mountain Park just not as large. Idea weather 80 degrees low humidity. Managed to get in 4 miles. I most definitely will be back .
