It's been a minute since we were here, so we decided on the cafe tonight. I requested the grilled chicken Cesar salad, and Dawn opted for the turkey-bacon club. Our waitress was quick to take our order and kept our drink glasses full. Lighting is adequate and there is deceptively a lot of room, and tables. The wait was just a little long, but we were behind two large groups of patrons and a big order. The head cook, even came out to apologize for our delay in service. The meal was presented nicely, it was well prepared and was what we expect from the cottage cafe. The prices are comparable to the area, and local economy. We will be back!

We visited during lunch and had a bit of a wait before the food came out, but watching the river made the time pass so quickly--we even saw dolphins jumping, which was such a memorable surprise. One server spent the entire time chatting up the guy at the bar. The other one checked on the table right next to us and completely ignored us. Both of them were much more interested in chatting with the lone male customer. We left after 15 minutes and they didn't even seem to notice. Not the Suwannee Belle we are used to. Sad to see this happen, but we won't be back for awhile, if ever. Ended up at the Lighthouse right up the road. It was excellent.

I had the ham and cheese sandwich with sweet potato fries, while my wife had a chili dog. We went through the drive-through,then parked and ate meal on the bench out front. The food was good and served hot. The only complaint would be the interior from the outside appeared dark, so we didn't notice there was seating inside until after our meal. No complaints on the food. The service from the window was great and the portions were adequate. Eating outside wasn't bad just a little cool because of weather. I will definitely come back again, but next time I will remember there are a few tables inside.

Imagine my surprise when I found a diner in High Springs that I had never seen before or knew about. That is what Chompers Diner is all about in my book. I was very happy to see this place. It is open on days of the week that other places in town are not open, they provide a solid product, and that product comes at a more reasonable price. In this case I went for the double cheeseburger with fries, all the way of course. The burger is excellent... I had forgotten to ask for no mustard, but even so it was an excellent burger, and I went back a couple of weeks later to try it without the mustard and it was even better. The fries are most likely SysCo, but these days you are going to be hard-pressed to find a place that isn't serving fries from one of the big distributors, which is sad, but at least that particular product is pretty good. In terms of Chompers, I will be back to sample other things that they make. So far I have been pleasantly surprised with their food, and I will be back!

We got in line and while it took a long time (so if you are in a hurry don't stop during lunchtime!) the food was delicious!! The burger was very fresh and juicy and the fries tasted like they were fries in something that would cook pastries! Very flavorful! So glad we took a chance on this place! Will definitely stop again on our journeys to Tallahassee (I only wish we had discovered it years ago!)

Some of this is locally-produced like the honey, some not. Some is reasonable in price, some you'd do better at a supermarket on probably. However, the cheeseburger and fries I had--plus iced tea!--all were excellent. There's nowhere to eat inside but they have shaded pic-nic tables outside. They also have a drive-thru and most of their cooked food orders likely are to take home. Aside from burgers, they have other sandwiches, various plates and sandwiches made of their famous brisket, and daily specials which trend towards Southern homestyle favorites like meatloaf or roasted chicken. My burger was great: it tasted like a burger Dad or a friend's dad would grill--not one from any restaurant. It tasted truly homemade. I'm eager now to try their brisket sandwiches and everything else.

The sides range from mac-n-cheese and collards to normally a couple homemade desserts: the peach cobbler and strawberry cake both are not to be missed. Portions are generous. Their Friday and Saturday all-you-can-eat seafood dinner is also a real deal and good food. Red velvet cake, caramel cake, and lemon cake are hits too but less frequent in their menu appearances. Ford hook limas sometimes show up too, slowly cooked with bacon or ham and are awesome. The painting and general interior and exterior refresh really went a long ways with me to have greater confidence in Bett's.
