The only thing we got was mullet dip for appetizers at home. Not the best, included scales.

They have great burgers and BBQ sandwiches and we always get our smoked mullet from them when making dip at home.

We ordered jumbo blue crab claws, bacon cheeseburgers, bone-in wings, and washed it all down with cold beers. To top it off, we finished with a slice of Key Lime pie. Every single dish came out hot, fresh, and cooked to order -- exactly what you want after a full day on the water. But the real highlight of our visit was our waitress Kiley. She was absolutely fantastic -- attentive, friendly, and made sure our drinks were never empty. Great service like hers is hard to find and makes all the difference. If you're in the Steinhatchee area and looking for great food and even better service, don't walk -- run to Deadman's Bay. We'll definitely be back next fishing trip!

Our waitress was attentive throughout the meal, and the manager/owner (I'm not sure which) personally came by to check on us. I also noticed him visiting other tables, which was a nice touch and showed good customer service. We originally wanted to sit outside because the view and setting are beautiful, but the Steinhatchee gnats were definitely out that evening. Unfortunately, I forgot our gnat spray -- and around here you know that's almost mandatory! We started with the conch fritters, and those were a hit with both of us. Very flavorful and definitely something I'd order again. I ordered the scallops, which were tasty, although they weren't served very hot and the breading was falling off a bit. My husband had the shrimp dinner and enjoyed his meal as well. The salad bar was fresh and nicely stocked, which we appreciated. Overall, we enjoyed our visit and would return, especially for the atmosphere, friendly service, and conch fritters.

The woman taking orders made me feel like I was an inconvenience just for being there. Her attitude was noticeable enough that another customer after me actually asked if he had done something to upset her. Her response was simply that it was a long day -- which, while understandable, doesn't make for a good customer experience. On top of the attitude, there was a serious lack of communication about what was unavailable. They were out of several items, including bottled water. Most frustratingly, I ordered the peel-and-eat shrimp and wasn't told until after I received my food that they were out of cocktail sauce. Without it, the shrimp were inedible to me -- I ended up throwing them away. That information should have been shared at the time of ordering. This was one of the only dining options available on a Monday night, so we made it work. But the poor service, lack of communication, and wasted food made the overall experience fall short. I'll be looking for other options next time.

We were warned that there were only 2 wait staff on at the time, and to be patient. To that, our waitress had the sweetest southern accent, her name started with an M, she was amazing. She handled her section, yes we waited but had no real complaints. The prices were a bit out of line with the food offerings. I paid $25.99 for some tender, juicy shrimp and $29.99 for a plate of "fried scallop" all were the size of a nickle and tasted like punched ray wing. I iver heard another customer state that they would like more chicken in their Chicken Alfredo, as the serving they got, 4 peices was ridiculous for the price they charge.

A very entertaining, true Florida, off the beaten path experience. While the restaurant is not the best in the world, it's pretty good and the only option on a Tuesday night that we could find. The place was crowded and we were taken care of with the right level of attention. We stayed in the newly remodeled first floor of one of the buildings. There's still lots of cleanup and re-building to do. It's a little sad to see Steinhatchee suffer so much. But glad to see folks trying to make a go of life again.

Entering it kind of reminds you of a farmhouse, I guess. Pretty standard furnishings and decoration for a country diner sort of place. Of course, we were there for breakfast, so the standard diner breakfast was on the menu. The full menu consists of burgers, sandwiches, and a couple of barbecue dishes. If there were more screens mounted on the walls I would call it a sportsbar, but that isn't the case. Our orders were taken, and I had gone for eggs, hashbrowns, and corned beef because it was St Patty's Day. Realistically one of the few times that I have legitimately had food that was appropriate for the holiday. Our food came out in a reasonable amount of time for a group of ten, so the kitchen and staff knew what they were doing. The food was fine... nothing to really shout out about, but also not bad. It was what I expected it to be, and that was good enough.

1906 Farmhouse 25405 W Newberry Rd, Newberry, FL 32669…read more ***SWILL ALERT*** Pulling up to the hitchin' post at the 1906 Farmhouse, all seemed well and fine. I don't mind themed restaurants (they can be fun). This place was designed to model the Farmhouse where the ranch hands gathered for meals before and after a long day of riding. I dug it. It gave off a warm, welcoming, one-of-the-family vibe. Kasey was my server for the meal and she was frowning before I asked one question. I placed an order for one Country Fried Steak with sides of Collard Greens and Mac & Cheese, along with some Strawberry Shortcake to round out the meal. I soon saw Cantankerous Kasey begrudgingly returning with my victuals. I don't understand this attitude. Am I supposed to be grateful she deigned to work here? Anyway, if any of you are curious like me, you may have often wondered what it was like to spend a day in jail. To that end, I admit, I got myself hauled off to the County Hoosegow. Wanting to make the most out of my tax dollars, I booked my stay to include lunch. The dry bologna sandwich you receive, along with the juice bag to wash it down, is something you try to forget. As I looked at the slop my trustee, Kasey, placed before me, I began to long for the county jail government issue bologna. The Country Fried Steak was fresh from the freezer and cooked with the precision of Stevie Wonder passing his behind-the-wheel driving test. I've been hit with hockey pucks softer than this garbage. The gravy was made in the Sysco factory and this had to be their bottom-grade slush. It was as tasty as flour and water. Wait. The sides were a step down from the entree, if that is possible. Just look at the pictures and tell me, does anything look appetizing? While I am not one to ever judge a book by its cover, as looks can be deceiving. In this case, they are not, and the adage 'a picture speaks a thousand words' is spot on. The Collard Greens were obviously from an industrial can. Hey, don't get me wrong, all restaurants use a food service, but you don't have to be cheap about it and try to finagle the dining population by using the lowest quality they have to offer. The Mac & Cheese looked more like something a dog regurgitated than actual food. It was dry and pasty on the palate--just the way it is not supposed to be. The Strawberry Shortcake is also food service, not unlike the stuff you got in high school, only worse. Kudos, 1906 Farmhouse, you officially serve Swill sans the fly. At least on this visit. The Big Boy says, "I wouldn't serve this SWILL to a dead dog."

There wasn't a hostess there when we showed up and then three servers took turns to say hold on for the hostess and then had no accountability when they said, 'I don't know where she is..'. Finally somebody said they were full up and tried to scare us with a 30 - 45 min wait when there were obvious tables open. We tried to understand what was going on and asked the next up server if they just didn't have the servers which made them a little friendlier. Then all of sudden a huge group left so the next server had no choice to seat us. Meanwhile, several other customers showed up behind us which put more pressure on the service. The next up server left to go clean an available outside table, and then 10 seconds later another server came up and tried to steer us away again saying no seats are open. We told this new server the next server got us to straighten out their lack of communication, and they readmitted they didn't know where the hostess was. We ended getting seated and waited another 15 to have our drink order put in. She seemed busy so we ended up putting in everything in at the same time. I had the clams and a pretzel, my wife had the shrimp rice bowl. Everything did come out fresh and super salty and not very good. Drinks were strong and mid, I won't go there again.

I guess it began as a truck stop decades ago and then became solely a restaurant. Anyways, they have had a cosmetic refresh, painting the building, adding cute signage including some features explaining Bett's long history, and just made the dining rooms a down-home but clean and inviting place now. This goes a long way: I am all for hole-in-the-wall restaurants but you don't want a place to look dirty, either. Bett's no longer does. It looks comfortable and plain-spoken, honest, and home town now. The food has always been good. You get a menu dinner or daily special--things like chicken fried steak or liver and onions or fried mullet--and a choice of three sides. The sides range from mac-n-cheese and collards to normally a couple homemade desserts: the peach cobbler and strawberry cake both are not to be missed. Portions are generous. Their Friday and Saturday all-you-can-eat seafood dinner is also a real deal and good food. Red velvet cake, caramel cake, and lemon cake are hits too but less frequent in their menu appearances. Ford hook limas sometimes show up too, slowly cooked with bacon or ham and are awesome. The painting and general interior and exterior refresh really went a long ways with me to have greater confidence in Bett's. It's now easily a place I rank with some of the region's best country/Southern cooking restaurants.
