These days, when I am looking for new places to eat in the local-ish area, I have resorted to looking at maps to figure out where new places have appeared, or that I simply missed. Imagine my surprise when I found a diner in High Springs that I had never seen before or knew about. That is what Chompers Diner is all about in my book. I was very happy to see this place. It is open on days of the week that other places in town are not open, they provide a solid product, and that product comes at a more reasonable price. In this case I went for the double cheeseburger with fries, all the way of course. The burger is excellent... I had forgotten to ask for no mustard, but even so it was an excellent burger, and I went back a couple of weeks later to try it without the mustard and it was even better. The fries are most likely SysCo, but these days you are going to be hard-pressed to find a place that isn't serving fries from one of the big distributors, which is sad, but at least that particular product is pretty good. In terms of Chompers, I will be back to sample other things that they make. So far I have been pleasantly surprised with their food, and I will be back! read more

My husband and I both loved our choices (patty melt and shrimp basket), and we both thought the sauces that went with our respective meals (Russian dressing for the patty melt and the Cajun remoulade for the shrimp basket) were outstanding - very flavorful and fresh). I Tried to call in my lunch order for my wife and I to pick up at noon today and the lady said they cannot take my order over the phone if I am paying cash. She said they have too many people placing orders and not picking them up. either way im glad I wasnt able to place the order as the food sucks. Frog legs, alligator or shrimp po'boys, gator nuggets, fried okra, house made fried mushrooms, a delectable shrimp and Andouille sausage mac and cheese, sw shrimp wrap: all good. Ordered double cheeseburger w/everything, onion rings, and a strawberry shake. The burger was salty and they must use high fat content 1/3lb that cook down to 1/4lb because the double was a small serving. The rings were OK and the shake was the winner here. I wouldn't go back. read more

The Philly, however, after one bite soon let my husband know that he was biting into a shaker of salt. Mistakes happen. So, I called and drove the sandwich back. My husband didn't want to try another Philly so I asked for a hamburger. I honestly thought that they would also refund the difference. Silly me! They really need to post this policy! Everything was freshly cooked and tasted good the only thing I would have liked was more ratatouille sauce. I will ask for it next time. They have lots of things on the menu like fried oysters, frog legs, Calamari, etc. They have the best fried chicken sandwich I've ever had. Move over Popeyes and the rest. Chompers chicken sandwich is served piping hot on a nice bun with lettuce, tomato, and mayo. Simple and amazing. Juicy lightly breaded chicken nicely seasoned. Simple but so good. Chompers could teach Popeyes and Chic-fil-a how to make a chicken sandwich. read more

I was on a road trip from Orlando to Niceville and thought there's no way I can't stop at this place. there were cars lined up through both drive through windows and there were people inside eating. Seems like a winner based on all the business. I ordered coconut shrimp which were amazing - so tasty, perfect amount of breading to shrimp ratio; it was served with an orange marmalade sauce which was also really tasty. I also ordered gator bites which was served with some kind of delicious sauce; those were the best gator bites I I've ever had! So juicy, tender, but a little chew, great flavor. I always get either a Caesar or Cobb salad, with added grilled blackened chicken. Price is right, the Wait is never too long, and the service is wonderful! I am always thrilled when I drive up and see Angelica's smiling face, waiting to take my order. Everyone in food service should take lessons from this terrific girl! THIS IS FOR HIGHSPRINGS LOCATION ! i wouldn't eat here. no one uses gloves & the same batter they dip the raw chicken in they dip EVERYTHING in. and if you happen to have a seafood allergy well just choose somewhere else to eat because they fry everything in the same grease. the shrimp the fish everything. Wow. Huge bacon cheeseburger, 12-piece shrimp with fries and a large soda for $12. Hot fresh and really tasty. Shrimp weren't huge but 12 was more than I could eat and the breading was light and crispy. Fries are the thin kind, hot and perfectly ever so slightly greasy - but in a good way! Friendly young lady at the window and shaded picnic area to park & eat. Nothing fancy but good food and great value. This hole-in-the-wall place in within 5-10 minutes of the campground where we are currently staying. There's not much indoor seating, but they have 2 drive-thru windows. So it makes sense to say that most of their business is take-out. Our go-to meal from there has been the double bacon cheeseburger, fries, and milkshake. The burgers are tasty and filling, and the fries are tasty as well (not soggy in the slightest). The star, though, is the milkshake. A large milkshake provides you with 32 ounces of creamy goodness. My family and I went to this diner to get dinner. We waited for about an hour and a half. They messed up our order and double charged us. Their fries are not crispy. They are greasy and mushy. Also, their Philly cheesesteak sandwich was a disappointment. My dog wouldn't even eat it and she eats everything. They will not be having my family back at this food place. read more

We ordered two burgers which my husband picked up this evening . He complained that his was salty and the bun was falling apart, but he did eat it. I sat down to eat some minutes later and OMG it tasted as if someone had dumped an entire salt shaker on the burger. I could actually feel the grit in my mouth plus, the bun was of such poor quality that it literally disintegrated from all the mayonnaise (which I didn't ask for) on it. My husband decided to take it back and give them a chance to make it right. I have to say they were very nice about it. I told him to ask for an unsalted burger with only pickles and onions on it. However, when It arrived there was only one tiny pickle and one equally tiny slice of onion - they really didn't go the extra mile towards customer satisfaction did they! I stop in here on occasion and other than a cheeseburger (not necassarilly bad just boring) that I tried during one visit all of the food has been delicious. Everything is made fresh and you can taste the difference. They have a drive-thru which is rare for a place cooking fresh food and its easily the best pit stop for many miles. My only complaint would be the portion size for the price. Not true on all items but if you are really hungry I would consider adding one of their appetizers to your order.
