A quick dinner, and some well deserved decompression time took Dawn and I to the "cottage cafe" in Oldtown, Fl This is one of our nice, clean, local main stay restaurants in the area. It's been a minute since we were here, so we decided on the cafe tonight. I requested the grilled chicken Cesar salad, and Dawn opted for the turkey-bacon club. Our waitress was quick to take our order and kept our drink glasses full. Lighting is adequate and there is deceptively a lot of room, and tables. The wait was just a little long, but we were behind two large groups of patrons and a big order. The head cook, even came out to apologize for our delay in service. The meal was presented nicely, it was well prepared and was what we expect from the cottage cafe. The prices are comparable to the area, and local economy. We will be back! read more

I have been going here for 4 yrs since moving from Georgia! The food is excellent! I go with girlfriend s and family and have always enjoyed everything! The service is great and girls are friendly, attentive and helpful! Cute country atmosphere. Always busy and they do stay open til 8pm for dinners! This cafe is top notch! If you want good food, go where the locals go to eat. Everything from the Server to the ambience and the food was stellar. I met a friend for brunch there on a Saturday. I had the stuffed French toast with strawberries. Fantastic. And the coffee? Omg! That was the best coffee I had on my entire trip. I returned the next day with more friends. On Sunday, they have a special menu that offered dishes that weren't offered on Saturdays. This is my go to cafe every time I make the trip to Florida. read more

I got the quiche of the day, it was a pretty big portion of food, it's a very hole in the wall look for the outside but quick service for being rather busy. There were a few flies that kept going around our table but I'm sure they can't help it with so many people coming in and out. You could either sit at the table or up at the diner counter. The food was good, I wouldn't say spectacular but it was good, reasonably priced. It was a bit loud but that's because of how busy it was and I don't think the table we sat at was cleaned beforehand because I kept getting something sticky like syrup on my arm. My friend got the crab cake Benedict and said it was really good and had the best hollandaise sauce he's had and it was a generous size for the crab cake and the best hashbrowns he's had in a while. The service was absolutely fantastic -- my server, Vivien, was incredibly attentive and made sure I was well taken care of from start to finish. The food? Easily some of the best I've had. So torn here. The people are wonderful and my wife's "pork-chop sanwich" was outstanding. But what they sell as a cheese burger is just inexcusable. Seriously they deserve a one star rating for trying to pass this thing off as food. A 1/4" thin patty with the life cooked out of it. The tomato was thicker than the hamburger patty!!! In fact, a $2 McDonalds patty is thicker and has more taste than the $10 piece of cardboard with cheese they served us at this cafe. If you eat here get the pork chop sandwich. read more

This is a better than average cafe - what stands out is the service. The waitress was quick to refill our drinks and made recommendations as needed. The food was good if not outstanding. My family eats here once or twice a week. The food is very good. You seat yourself, if the server takes a minute to get to you she is not ignoring you it's probably just hectic at that moment. The only negativity that might be spoken is political and its between the customers. read more

Stopped by this cafe yesterday for brunch arriving just prior to noon. We are camping in the area. We saw the place the day prior while driving by and decided to give it a chance based on reviews in Yelp. First, the cafe is charming and clean. It was a nice atmosphere to spend the time in. There was one waitress working and she was taking care of the entire cafe by herself. It wasn't that crowded so it was something one person should be able to handle. The waitress came to the table initially in a reasonable amount of time and provided us menus. We ordered coffee and that also came pretty quickly. The coffee was very good. I ordered their 2-2-2 breakfast which was two eggs, two slices of bacon, two sausage patties, two pancakes and grits. You can choose toast instead of pancakes and hash browns instead of grits (I love grits)...but I went with the pancakes and grits. My wife ordered French toast, bacon and a single egg over medium. We both asked for the bacon to be crisp. Our eggs and bacon were good. The French toast was not so good. The bread was very thick...which isn't a bad thing...it's just that it was flavorless. The coating was a thick layer of cinnamon that just missed the mark. My pancakes were good... but just average. The grits were not good at all. They were lumpy, dry and cold in spots. I mixed them with the yolk from the eggs which improved the temperature and moisture greatly. We waited for quite a while for our check as we saw the waitress bring others their checks. When it didn't come, we went up front to the counter and the waitress took care of us. So I'd rate this place a low average. Maybe it was just an off day for them. We won't go back as there are other restaurants in the area to try first. read more
