Lily Pad cottage was intended to be our "treat" after the hike - and we were nonetheless happy to be there after a week of rain and fighting off the sniffles from a crowded flight. The cottage was just gorgeous - well outfitted, elegant and very comfortable. We enjoyed the chatter of gekko lizards fighting each other on the ceiling at night and the shy curiosity of a stray kitten on the deck. I look forward to staying here again and cannot recommend it highly enough - lovely setting, fantastic cottage and darling hosts.

This is one of the most beautiful vacation destinations in the world. A lovely cottage 40 ft away…read morefrom one of the safest beaches on the Garden Island Kaua'i (the famous Anini Beach, protected by a coral reef) in a neighborhood full of incredible multi million dollar properties, some of which owned by the rich and famous of today (like Sylvester Stallone, Pierce Brosnan, etc), located next to a small river that flows into the ocean, and a pond with lilies and goldfish... surrounded by coconut trees and blooming flowers... Yes, this is one of the last pristine pieces of paradise. Unspoiled (as of yet) by us, humans (As Agent Smith from the Matrix said, we are a disease or parasite that eats and destroys everything around us, wherever we go) Anyway... I have the distinct pleasure to share this info with you today. If you ever decided to visit Kaua'i, don't book a large hotel. These hotels look like apartment buildings, they are always the same. And they are so expensive. Rent a cottage like this one- the most relaxing and romantic way to enjoy fully your stay here. The owners, Steve and Caren Farrell, who live not too far from there, have provided a full set of amenities. An orthopedic firm queen size bed with great linens, a full kitchen with plates and utensils for 2 (plus up to 2 guests), a large gas stove/oven inside + gas/coal BBQ grill outside on the huge wood patio (with comfortable seating available for 4 persons); large refrigerator; dinning area with table & 4 chairs; living room area with Hawaiian style comfortable sofa & armchair, CD player with huge speakers for optimal hi-fi sound; TV with DVD player; patio seating for 4; a fully equipped comfortable bathroom with all the necessary towels, shampoo, body lotion etc.; wardrobe area with iron & board; beach towels, mats, sunbrella; washer & dryer on back of the house... I can continue listing more- but you get the picture. So much better value than the nasty stinky hotel rooms. In addition, a wireless internet is available for free, but you may need to request the modem/router from Steve. One thing you should know: book the cottage months in advance. It is very popular, and may be very hard to get a reservation. Also, you will save a lot of money if you book the airline tickets many months ahead of the vacation. AVOID UNITED BY ALL MEANS- they were SO HORRIBLE during our recent trip. I just returned from Kauai 2 days ago, and I must tell you: I will never travel with United anymore. Please check out my United Airlines review on Yelp (from the beginning of May 2007).

We loved our 2bedroom villa, while we had plenty of space the property itself is small enough that walking anywhere doesn't feel like a chore. Here is where we fall off and don't quite hit the 5 stars. Our villa was super clean. Toilets weren't fully cleaned upon arrival and they definitely didn't do a better job during our stay. The couch and blankets had a few mystery stains that grossed me out. Cocktails and the restaurant are insanely expensive. We are talking 28 dollars for a cocktail. Additionally the staff member Nancy (pool attendant) was rude to me. I wasn't able to locate a dry chair in the sun at 4pm. so I asked an employee for permission to use a chair near the cabana. Permission was granted but she wasn't happy about it. So asked me to move, while I didn't have issue with moving I did find it rather unprofessional of her to yell at me for not reading the sign and while she offered to help me when I asked to a dry chair on the sun she walked away ranting about my lack of awareness. To make matters worse the same employee had a separate issue with my husband in reguarda to pool towels. When I tried to address it with the front they weren't very helpful. All in all we did have a great week there and hope to go back.

The grounds are breathtaking including the pool & spa. We had a full kitchen & bought groceries for breakfast & lunch when we left the airport. We had a beautiful view from our condo! The two restaurants on the property open at 3pm, and are actually closed two days of the week (Wednesday and Thursday were the closed days when we were there). We had to go to the 1 Hotel Resort for breakfast and lunch, which isn't far and can be accessed through the hotels golf cart transportation system, but defeats the purpose of the resort being the destination itself. And if you plan on going anywhere, you NEED a car, there are no Ubers or Lyfts around. We felt stranded when we arrived from our flight at lunch time, starving, and learned the restaurants are closed for another 3 hours, until 3pm. It does have a coffee shop that has drinks, cold and hot homemade sandwiches and snacks for on the go, but the hours it's open depends. The flyer they hand out says it's open from 7am-4pm but we just watched them close today at 1:30pm. There's a QR code that says to scan for live hours, which tells me it doesn't follow the 7am-4pm time frame at all. How would we then know when it's open to plan for it? Thankfully we got in before they closed for a lunch snack. That said, the operating times that can be inconvenient and if you want a proper sit down meal it's not the place. I found myself confused at times, wondering who this place was for because at times I needed food or simply a place to sit, everything seemed to be closed, all the way to the detail of seating areas on a busy dinner night. It's almost as if this isn't a resort meant to be open or helpful for guests living there. Most of the staff is welcoming, I saw one review mention some animosity towards tourists which I could definitely sense at the front desk with one of the ladies, but the rest of the ladies were nice, I think it was just her. 1 Hotel definitely has better service, where they actually critically think to go above and beyond on getting you what you need, though that's expected due to the price difference. The room was clean and had what we needed, full kitchen, master bed and a separate space with a pull out bed that was useful for our family who stayed with us to help with our baby. Overall, I'd rethink calling this location a resort, it's nice but a bit misleading.
