It has been over a month since my emergency visit to Dr. Toms office. It took me this long to…read morerecover from the incident and it was more than traumatic. Never having a tooth problem and not knowing what was happening; when the pain started I was confused and it was like nothing I've ever experienced. Bone crushing pain in my jaw that I understand is like or worse than childbirth, I give homage to all of the people who have gone thru this type of pain, no one really knows that this is the worse pain possible. Confused, I had two emergency room visits and was trying to figure out how to get to a dentist? It turns out my dentist scheduled me for an appt for a week out. When I arrived to him, he insulted me and kicked me out of the office for being in pain and limiting his access to my mouth (please read my review of him). And he referred me to an oral surgeon whom I immediately called; they saw me right then. For some reason they scheduled a surgery for another date, I think that doctor was actually trying to save the tooth in mention, seeing I could not open my mouth no one actually saw the tooth, so in this pain I waited yet again. By the time for the actual surgery I had been in this pain that had caused shock for about 10 days; violently shaking, no food, only pain pills and Ice...anything to help with the pain. I went to her office in Healdsburg. When I got there she realized that she would not be able to make me numb enough to do the job, so she called Dr. Toms office and they even drove me over which was close. I did have to wait for a while because the doctor was in the middle of working on a client, totally understandable and he and his staff stayed there after hours for me. At this time I do have to say that the Doctor that works with Dr. Tom saw me first and asked me if I had had anything to eat, in order to put me under general sedation, and I said that I had had some water in the morning and it was after 2ish. He said he didn't want to do it because he thought I would die, and then when I was crying in pain, he actually asked me if I wanted to die then! Turns out he had an appointment. Dr. Tom couldn't have been nicer, he is a big bear of a man and his personality is as large, in my opinion I felt safety because he was totally in control, and his staff has the humanity that I have not seen on this planet since the 70s. These folks saved my life! Their sense of urgency and compassion is stellar and the service didn't stop there. He insisted on seeing me numerous times after, in the healing process to make sure I was "out of the woods." The last time I went there for my final check up, I was overcome by gratefulness for the sincere humanity of this remarkable group of people. I will always be indebted to you because this was to date the worst event of my life. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

However, the office didn't give me much information at all about what the recovery would look like. When a problem arose post-surgery, Dr. Tom saw me right away. During the appointment, though, he was unkind and unprofessional. We spent only a few minutes together, and he seemed angry throughout. I pointed out that he was yelling at me, but he didn't change his manner. I asked a few questions and he barked his response at me each time. The door was open and my husband was able to hear much of the exchange and his impression was that Dr. Tom seemed impatient and unsympathetic. Dr. Tom went as far as to say that he only cared about whether my husband made his doctor's appointment in Santa Rosa, (which we'd scheduled around) and didn't care about me. The wait to get seen can be up to 6 months. This was the case when I had to reschedule. I guess they were low on staff or punishing me. I don't know if it is because the dentist doesn't pay his staff enough or or what. But darn near every time my wife and I are in, he has new staff. A revolving door of new staff never seems to be a good sign. As for Dr. Chera he is a friendly but not overly friendly person. He definitely has the feeling of being in a rush when he comes in the room. He is very knowledgeable and try's to connect your whole health with your teeth. Very minimal contact with the dentist, on checkups he pokes his head in and looks at the x-rays pokes around in your mouth real quick gives a few notes and is OUT! For the last 5-6 years he must be partially retired because he is rarely in the office to look at your teeth or X-rays. When he was in his old office before he bought his current location it felt like he was trying to make a name for himself and went the extra mile. He would go out of his way to stop in and say hi and chop up a little conversation. He was ALWAYS in the office. He didn't exude the feeling of being in a rush. The funniest part of him acting all rushed is sometimes his personal office door is open and he's just kicking back in his office. In a rush to get back to your solitaire game or something? He isn't overly pushy about filling cavities that don't need, but his staff are not so much. Example the Dr. Says we need to keep an eye on a couple teeth and I'm like ok, he says it's no rush like you need a filling now. The staff asks if I would like a quote, I was like sure may as well see what I'm getting into since insurance is a joke these days and doesn't cover the whole job!!! The front desk gives me a quote and then calls like every 2 months asking if I want to schedule the filling. Sheesh the dentist just said we want to keep an eye on it not that I needed it done. Then I get a notice that they are dropping our delta dental insurance because they don't pay enough... sheesh I already have to pay the difference what else do they want! My wife calls them up just to be courteous and let them know that we will not need our dental appointments in the future. The lady asks why and then says we aren't dumping your insurance for another month, do you want to schedule those fillings before we don't accept your insurance... Hell no! We have been loyal patients for a huge portion of your working career and we are kicked to the curb?! You are still trying to push one last squeeze of our money before we go... Sorry the relationship is over. You aren't the nice family dentist that I reffered so many patients to. You are just resting on the existing clients and doing the bare minimum to keep the money rolling in. It's a shame this place was great for 15 years!

I have never been to a better dentist. NEVER…read more I first went to Dr. Alford after getting an outstanding referral for him from a friend. My friend was right! Dr. Alford did an amazing check-up. Not only used more advanced (comfortable) x-rays, but he used a special oral camera that found tiny cracks (from silver fillings), tapped my teeth, measured my gum loss and even used a special laser that checked for hidden decay. He was more thorough and more professional than any other dentist I've ever seen. I've never had such modern equipment used, nor experienced such a high level of expertise. So would I recommend him to my friends? Heck yeah!!!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DR. ALFORD! (But only to my friends)

Or rather a specialist of sorts. He does the hard stuff the stuff beyond an X-ray and regular check up and cleaning. So than why am I so excited? Because the whole experience has been wonderful! The front desk handled reception, appointments, and billing. She calls your Innsurance prior to your treatment, laying out very clearly what's covered and what you will need to pay out of pocket. I hate surprise bills and there have been no surprises! Then Cindy takes you into the back. Cindy reviews how you use a toothbrush, dental floss, etc turns out I still had plenty to learn! Cindy is a creature of habit and has wonderful healthy habits and routines to share with you. She will also gladly talk to you about her dog, her search for a new endurance horse and how much she loves where she lives and the community she serves. Cindy is akin to a battle warn nurse. She has seen it all and does not flinch and right away you know you are in good capable reliable hands. And then Dr Craig Wilson attends to you. He is calm steady friendly with a restrained warmth to him. He talks you through everything. He put a hand on my hand for the briefest moment squeezed it and said "I don't want you to be nervous and I am here to make sure you can relax" Can I tell you a secret? I was so nervous! Yep me, my one hand was clutching my arm and the other hand was crossing its fingers (like that would help) Anyway he continued to assert he was here to take good care of me and that included taking away unhealthy fears and putting me at ease. Once we actually got down to work his skill at managing pain, I found to be flawless. Slow and steady wins the race in this office. My appointment started and ended on time and at no time did anyone rush. In fact Dr Wilson kept explaining, kept checking in, kept applying subtle pressure, and kept his promise and my trust. So after two visits I was so excited for today's third. I already knew what would happen how the woman at the front desk would smile at me and walk me through my payment validating what I already knew. She would set up my next appointment making sure I had all the flexible I needed to align to my schedule. How Cindy would greet me warmly and efficiently and how soothed and relaxed I would feel by the time Dr Wilson started his treatment. Seriously, and this is the truth, I asked how often I could get treatment. The answer was "the goal is not to need it" of course Dr Wilson is right but if I do need it again there is nothing to be afraid of and every advantage to be had.
