Hmmm. I've been going to Harmon for YEARS. But recently every time i've come in i'm met with eyes of "what do you want" instead of a friendly welcome in! The people at the front are passive aggressive and sometimes the tone seems like they think you're stupid... maybe it's just me! I visited Harmon Photo for passport pictures and I was very happy with the service. They take actual, good photos and care about the lighting and that you look good. Came here to get 2 disposable cameras developed. I was told 2 weeks until I'd receive the scans in my email but it was more like 3 1/2 and had to call twice for an update on when I'd receive them to which I only got my scans after the second call to them. When I got the scans they were all horribly foggy and not processed good at all. Not only that but there were pictures missing that I knew should have been on those cameras. I've recently gotten into film photography, and Harmon is my go-to film lab. I'm just a hobbyist, so I don't know a ton, but Harmon has always been helpful with getting me what I need. Each film roll costs $10.95 for processing and it takes 1-2 weeks to be done. They add all of my scans to a Dropbox, which is super convenient. My scans always look great. I've only had one experience where my film roll showed up blank somehow, but they refunded me for that one. The selection of gear is not as large as other camera stores and it's mostly used. I've bought and sold lenses here though. My trusty 50 mm lens that I bought here is still going strong! Most of the gear is used and you can find some really cool, vintage cameras. Just don't expect to find exactly what you're looking for if you're on the hunt for something specific. As other reviews have said, don't expect a super warm and friendly welcome. That being said, I've had good experiences with the staff. They're just not super outgoing. Overall, I recommend Harmon for people looking for a reliable film lab to develop their photos locally vs using an online service. read more

I usually go here to get my film developed. They do a good job and provide dropbox service, unlike a certain other photo shop nearby where you can only get your scans on a USB drive. The inconsistent turnaround time has been getting on my nerves a little bit recently. Sometimes it'll take a week, which is normal. But then other times it will take 3-4 weeks, which is very slow for a film lab. This is why I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5. Maybe they need to hire one or two more lab techs, or purchase a second scanner/developing equipment so they can handle the demand a little easier? Just my thoughts. Still a great place though. The employees are not the most outgoing people initially, but once you get talking to them, you can easily lose track of time and have a conversation for an hour about photography. This happens to me quite often here, haha. They are super nice people once you start talking to them! read more

I had some old film negatives that I wanted developed of a different format. I called the store and told them that it was old in about 2 inches across and not 35 mm. They said they could do the printing of the negatives and it would take about two days. I was on the other side of town but decided I wanted to print photos as a Christmas present. While on the phone I was told they would be done by Wednesday. I signed out of work, drove across town using the toll roads, and arrived at the store. Parking was bad and had to go around the block once, but I wanted this done. Once I was in the store and went through the entire process I was told they would call me when it was done. After an afterthought, I asked them, so this will be ready prior to Christmas? I was told no, it would not. I mentioned that I came to their store due to what I was told on the telephone literally about 40 minutes prior. They then told me that they were the only one in town that could do this, and I informed them that colonial photo and hobby would most certainly do it, but I chose them because they told me they could get the job done in time. They may or may not be able to do a good job, I took my negatives and left. So I really cannot comment on the quality of their work. Just note that they may not be trusted as far as what you are told versus what they will do. Considering the time spent on gas, tolls, and everything else, I guess they won. But, buyer beware. It's a shame too because I have a lot of photo and movie work that I was planning on having done through them. read more

Okay, reading some of the previous reviews, you *aren't* going to often get warm and fuzzy service at Harmon. This is true. So it's possibly *not* the place to go if you're a beginner--although they will certainly explain things to you, and make solid recommendations, if you're willing to listen and don't think you know it all already. However, if you are a pro, or you know a lot about photography and what you want/need, *this is THE place to shop*. I have bought loads of second-hand equipment off them, and I've always been extremely satisfied. They frequently get very good and useful used gear in, and they generally always have an interesting selection of lenses and particularly film cameras on display. They are also a great source for all kinds of the little bits and bobs that aren't glamorous, but are essential if you're doing things a bit beyond pointing and shooting. They usually always have quite a selection of lighting stands (I bought a couple of heavy-duty Manfrottos and a big Bogen boom stand off them) and modifiers at very good prices indeed. I've also bought 9-foot rolls of seamless off them--their prices are pretty much identical to Colonial Photo & Hobby's--some pro-grade used bags, and all kinds of small miscellania and expired film. They usually have lots of second-hand pro flash gear, too. (I've bought second-hand Paul C. Buff lights and battery packs off them--they work great, and the prices were too good to turn down.) Whenever I'm on that side of town, I always pop in just to see what new stuff has come in that might prove irresistible. And about half the time, I end up walking out with something I didn't go in looking for. If you're a beginner, you're *probably* better off going to Colonial, as a lot of their merchandise is new stuff, and they have a larger staff with a little more time to talk with you. And probably a bit more patience, too, for that sort of conversation. You'll get more hand-holding there. But if you're an experienced shooter, and especially if you still shoot film, Harmon is indispensable. I do buy things occasionally from Colonial--and of course from B&H--but my go-to spot in Orlando is Harmon. Just don't walk in expecting a "the customer is always king--and always right" vibe, and you'll be fine. And if you aren't in need of all that, and just want to be able to find *stuff you need* at very good prices and with a store that will stand behind what they sell, Harmon is *it*. If you haven't been there before, and you fall into the demographic I've recommended above, you need to go there. Now. You will, I believe, make it a regular stop, just as I have. read more

Great service and very knowledgeable staff, I've gotten some equipment from there, but my issues come into play when my non-white friend comes into the store with me, does not get any hello like I usually do but instead gets watchful eyes placed on him. Furthermore, when the time came to check out, the owner regaled us with a great story about how he may have almost gotten jumped walking in the streets one night because he saw a dark figure behind him (just say what you really mean!), then told us about how he likes to shoot homeless people. The kicker? when he started talking about homeless people dude immediately turned and pointed to my friend in what was clearly a subconscious derogatory action. There's only two or three photo shops in orlando but I can do with less if that means less racism in this industry. Colonial may be more of a big and bureaucratic place but at least my friends can shop there in peace. read more

Hubby was super thoughtful and signed me up for a photo class at Harmon Photo Center for Christmas :) (I know right?? Lucky woman I am)! We have had a Nikon DSLR for a few years now and I have tried to teach myself on my own but I was super excited to learn in-person from someone who knew what they were talking about. I went to the "Photo 1" class, which goes over the basics of photography like the lingo, how capturing a photo works to explain what adjustments you would need to make on the camera, specifics about my personal camera, computer editing program info and basics on add ons for the camera. It was a small class, about 8 of us, so we had individualized moments with the instructor to show us how to navigate our cameras. It was a great experience, super thoughtful gift and I would recommend it for any newbie to the DSLR world! I will be back for the "Photo 2" class :) read more

Gave the shop a call to ask about making a photo book. I explained that it was for a photojournalism portfolio and that I've never created a photo book. I was expecting to be coached through the process where they could recommend book sizes based on my needs. That didn't happen in the slightest, and instead I was made to feel as if I should've known all the details it takes to make a photo book. When I asked how to start the process, I was instructed to upload the photos online (the online application didn't even work). Then I asked if I could see examples/samples of how the final product would turn out, he simply stated "no." - and that's where they lost my service. read more

thought this place was doing an alright job processing and scanning my film, til i went back to my negatives to have some frames rescanned at a larger size. several frames per roll were cut right down the middle when they cut and sleeves the negatives. like not even close...straight through the middle of the frame. i'd say at least two frames on every roll were like this. super major bummer and now will never get to see these frames printed large. lack of care given to my hard-earned photos was astounding and i'll never be back. read more

Got a few rolls developed here and they raised there price. Was never happy with the customer service so decided to use the darkroom.com as the prices were the same, had much better scan quality and great customer service (they even upload your scans online!). I went back to get one roll developed for the convenience and asked about scan options only to be treated with a rude response. The film scans ended up being horrible. Totally bummed out. If you are competing with similar prices online, put out a good product and for sure be better with customer service. read more

I went here after being a long time Colonial Photo customer. The People: The service people are super nice and helpful here. They immediately asked if I needed help when I walked in the door. When I said I was just browsing the girl went back to her development station and just let me read labels till I was content. The Gear: So they have no where near as much product as Colonial it seems. I was in quickly looking for a cheap flash bracket and where colonial had 10 different kinds from $40-$300, Harmon only had 3 from $150-$300. They do have a cool used section right in front that's intriguing to rummage through. The Location: They have a great location with tons of parking and they use a their small space really well. This is a great camera shop. Back in the old days, when I was taking pics with film, I would always take my special trip film here. If you need film developed, come here. If you need prints from a co copyright owned photo (wedding) come here. Service is always top notch. Very nice selection of photography related items and archiving options for negatives and prints. I recently purchased my first DSLR camera and was interested in taking some classes that would help me become familiar with the camera itself as well as basic photography techniques. After several hours of searching online for photography schools, I stumbled upon this location and saw that they offer photography classes through their partnership with Catchlight Studios. I liked the reviews I read on their direct site (http://catchlightstudios.showitsite.com) and signed up for a one-day class, which is designed to help you learn the controls and features of the camera you own (they instruct on all types of cameras). This class was taught by Susan Francis and I instantly knew she'd be someone fun to learn from. She was very upbeat, patient, and, above all, very professional. Once that class concluded, I knew I wanted to go back and so I signed up for the "Introduction to DSLRs" class, which lasted three weeks. I must say those three weeks flew by! Once again, this class was taught by Susan and she kept things very interesting and easy to grasp. The other people in this class were also very impressed with her and had nothing but positive feedback throughout the three weeks. I have just now signed up for their "Introduction to Lightroom" class, which focuses on the understanding of the Adobe Lightroom photo-developing software used by the majority of professional photographers. This class is taught by Susan's husband, John, so I'm looking forward to meeting him as well. If you're looking for an affordable place to learn photographic technique, with an enthusiastic teacher, I definitely recommend Harmon's School of Photography (aka: Catchlight Studios). I had a terrible experience at Harmon. They were not able to help me with a scanning job but that was not the issue. I wanted a photograph of my mother who passed away to be used in my daughters wedding. The photograph that i had was not very good and my father who is in ill health and still alive (95 years old ) is in the photo. I asked if he could be cropped out and the man in a very rude voice said it would be easier to leave him in. I said he is still alive and it would not be appropriate. He then said "That's dumb". He could have easily said I don't want to do this and left his negativity out. Terrible customer service. Went to Colonial Photo & Hobby and they helped me with a smile . read more

I haven't purchased camera gear here - the selection looks small but well curated fwiw - but I wanted to give them a review for their passport photo service. My old passport has your basic, generic drugstore passport photo but the one I had taken here looks like a professional quality headshot (hopefully customs will still recognize it's me, as I always look rough after a long flight). One did not want to leave his computer to show me anything. I asked several questions (simple) and they shoved it aside. It was the worst shopping experience I have had! I attended photography classes at Harmon Photo. I took Photo 1 and Photo 2. The instructor Susan, is FABULOUS! She makes the content easy to understand. We practice setting adjustments, we take photos of objects, we took outside night photography to illustrate shutter speeds. Photo 1 was a one night 2 hour course. I thought I knew all the basic material. I was certainly wrong. Photo 2 is once a week for 4 weeks. Susan is very interested in the students and encouraged us to shoot photos before the next class, and wanted to hear our experiences. I highly recommend Susan, Harmon Photo and Catchlight (Susans studio) photograhy school. read more

Prices are very fair compared to others in the area and products are of good quality. I picked up a very good bag for my camera for a Great price! The people are nice and attentive. This place has been around forever serving the area, always heard were good. Recently went there for 8mm film to DVD transfer of family movies, and were able to get it done before Christmas as I requested. They were courteous, quick and efficient. I would highly recommend! read more

I went here to process black and white 35mm film to test a camera for light leaks, and was told it'd take at most two weeks to process/print the film. I said fine because I had a 30 day return window for the camera. 15 days later I call to inquire about the film, and they said it wasn't "in" and I'd only be getting the negatives because their printer was down. I asked why wasn't it "in" and they said they send off their film to get developed. I asked how long the printer was down, and they told me that it had been down for 2 to 3 weeks. So, they took my order knowing that they couldn't print my negatives, and they didn't even call to let me know. Moreover, they don't even process black and white film in-house!! Instead, they ship it out for someone else to process. I could have done that myself, using some internet processing company. By the way, they charge $8 just to process black and white 35mm film... when Colonial Photo and Hobby charges $4 (they process in-house and it'll be done next day!). Online companies charge like $10, with free 2-way shipping, and they'll scan the images for you. I should have looked around before getting my film processed at Harmon, as there are better options. On top of it, the man who works behind the counter (balding, has a barely-noticeable accent) has a sour attitude, talking trash and insulting customers behind their backs. A few customers called and, when he hung up, said insulting and snarky things about them under his breath. Bad customer service, bad service. Maybe their better for their equipment or whatever, but my experience with film printing was horrendous. read more

When taking an old photo out of a frame, a little bit of the photo was left on the glass. I brought it in to have 2 copies made.The clerk asked if I wanted to have the photo restored,and not knowing any better, I said no, just make 2 copies. thinking they must have a program to add the bit of hair missing back to my photo. I just picked up my package and not only are the copies hideous, but the original is ruined,with part of the photo flaked off. When I asked the clerk about the very poor results, his only comment was "well, I asked you if you wanted the photo restored!" Had this arrogant jerk bothered to explain that in order to get viable copies, I should have the original restored, I WOULD HAVE DONE IT! He was not a bit apologetic, not even apologizing for keeping me waiting 10 minutes in my car, when he failed to be on time to open the door at 9:00. My picture is ruined, and I am so upset, as there is no other copy of my grandmother as a young woman in existence. I have used Harmon for old photos for at least 25 years, but I guess customer service is no longer important to them. I will never use them again and I will never recommend them to anyone. I was asking her information about my D-3300 NIKON camera any help she could give me or tricks about taking pictures but she said that I had to take the photo class and she said no information that would help me. I won't be going into that store again anytime soon.I guess she has never heard of customer service.She had the attitude that I know everything and I am not going to help you.
