Clearly a small outfit tucked in the corner of a business center. One of the few places in Orlando that does serious camera gear rental, so they don't have much competition. Hours are a bit limited, the rental process is a bit haphazard compared to the polish of their larger competitors, and the tiny gear I picked up was given to me in a Pelican-style case that was easily ten times bigger than it needed to be-- not the most convenient to transport... Also, unlike their larger competitors, I find it hard to believe they do comprehensive testing of their gear-- they simply don't have the volume to afford optical benches and whatnot. Not blaming them, just the nature of a small business vs. a large one, and an inherent limitation to be aware of. Gear seemed to be well taken care of cosmetically. Prices are pretty fair, customer service is pretty good, and hard to argue with the convenience if you're already in the area. read more

This company has cancelled 3 orders on me, racking up almost $1000 in pending changes because of their incompetence and god awful "authorization process" that asks you for your ID, photo copy of credit card used, and deposit for the amount of gear rented no mater how long you've been with them. This company sent me two authorization emails to the WRONG email address when the correct one is literally the email address I signed up to their website with. They'll also cancel your order if you don't respond to this "authorization email" within 3 hours. That's insane to me. Never in my life have I seen a more antiquated, convoluted process in my life. I would give them ZERO stars if I could. Please, save yourself the money and put it towards a business with better processes and good customer service because The Lens Depot has neither. read more

I contacted LensDepot on a Thursday explaining that I needed a Lumix EF lens adapter ASAP. For some reason even with overnight air, they couldn't ship to the Bay Area next day or even Saturday. And second day air wasn't an option. The only option was $100 overnight shipping to receive the item four days later at a UPS shipping center since LD refused to deliver to my home address. Picking up and returning the adapter entailed over two hours of driving. Since I was renting a 6K video camera from another vendor which had to be returned on Tuesday, I only had one day to shoot with the long EF lens. When I contacted LD and explained they'd charged overnight shipping for an item that took four days to arrive and that I only had one day's use of, they said no adjustment could be made for the $133 one week rental, since UPS had charged them $100 shipping on a 1 pound package, which I strongly doubt. I'll never rent from The Lens Despots again. read more

Rude at levels so high I can't beleive they are still in business. So rude I waited in my car for what I thought would be a sufficient enough time for him to inspect and check in the equipment I rented. I also paid for an entire day, however he had equipment in hand at 10a because he demanded that. I'm shocked at the lack of real professionalism and pride this place lacks. Absolute terrible customer service, especially from the owner. Condescending and disrespectful when clients don't understand their entire book of policies and get rude when you have questions. Told them I wouldn't be a customer anymore so they targeted a colleague of mine, saying he had to pay a $5300 deposit for a $250 rental after I bruised the owner's ego. Owner's name is Oscar. Rent from borrowlenses or many of the others that hire great customer service representatives. DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY. My colleague wanted to pay for the order with his card on my account. He even spoke with them, saying HE wanted to use HIS card and they refused because the customer account name was different (understable). Avoid at all costs! This place is a complete scam. My sister rented equipment from them and asked to extend the reservation which was denied, they demanded the equipment be returned at 4:00pm. No problem totally understand if they cannot grant a paid extension. But on our way back to return the equipment they informed us if we were late (after 4:00pm) they would charge us a $4,000 late fee despite paying for insurance. We ended up returning the equipment at 4:20pm and the jacka** threatened to call the police and report us for stealing. 20 minutes late, warrants a threat to call the police. I called on Monday @ 1:45 pm spoke with a rep he quoted me, said I would call back if I decide to keep it no problem. I received a phone call after business hours at 04:25 pm. I believe his name was Oscar and was accused of stealing the equipment. threatened to sent the police to my home. Said I never called. Then, sent me a recording of the phone call. Bottom line these people ask you to send a picture of your I.D and your Card information SCAM!!!! Racially profiled me, saw that I was a Black Woman and treated me terribly. I have been a customer of this company for several years and used their services at least twice a year for my small photography business. Two weeks ago I rented one camera as a backup for a wedding shoot, that took place over a weekend. Prior to the wedding I had my first hiccup with the camera arriving WAY after it was supposed to be delivered to my house(UPS is HORRIBLE). After returning from a terrible weekend due to other circumstances, the camera was promptly reshipped back to the business. 2 days later, upon realizing that the camera had been resetting it's file-saving format so that I'd ended up with all jpgs, I called the company to let them know and discuss an email I'd received from them about a damaged eye piece. The camera was returned on Tuesday, I received the email on Wednesday, and I called the business on Friday. I was answered by an OSCAR who I thought was by far the rudest customer service provider I have EVER spoken too. He cut me off in my explanation of the past weekend's troubles to berate me for not having yet called to pay the $10 they had unsuccessfully attempted to charge my card(w/o my knowledge) for the eyepiece. He went on to tell me how it was "suspicious" that I'd call with all of these problems after not paying the $10, placed both my account and my business co-owner's account in bad standing, and threatened to spread my name to other rental businesses as "a problem" customer so that I could not use their services. He was incredibly condescending, clearly insinuating that i was attempting to get over on their business, and just downright disgusting to me despite the fact that i was being very courteous. After attempting to make Oscar aware of how rude he was being, I asked to speak with a manager. It was then that I was horrified to find that Oscar actually is an owner of this business speaking to his customers that way. I impressed upon him that as a fellow business owner I was appalled at how he was treating a customer, to which he responded with "the customer is not always right." I had hopes that someone else within the company would at least apologize for his disgusting behavior, but upon giving a return call I found my story to be met with mostly indifference, though in hindsight if the owner was that disgusting my hopes shouldn't have been that high for the staff. Before this experience, I would've happily recommended this business to colleagues. Now, knowing that this company is willing to speak to people in that manner and in no way attempt to rectify or apologize for the terrible behavior, ESPECIALLY when it is a returning customer, I wouldn't spend a single cent with them ever again. PS: I'd like to also point out that I have never had any prior issue with a camera being returned damaged, the rental of the camera in question had already been paid in full, and upon making that return phone call I discovered that both accounts had indeed been placed in bad standing out of spite. read more

I placed an order after searching for GH5 rentals. My search took me directly to the page on their site for the GH5. They DO have a GH5 rental with VLog, but because my search took me directly to camera, I did not see their camera page with all rentals. Besides, why rent out one camera with and one without? It's like giving someone the most dumbed down version of a camera possible...who wants that or even offers it? Anyway, I called to ask if my rental had V Log already installed on it because I wanted to ensure that I would have it for a shoot. I was told that it DID have V Log on it. Great, I said. It did not. So I called back and they said that there was nothing they could do (funny as it was the same guy who took my call previously) and stated "policy, policy, policy...". he didn't own up to the fact that someone made a mistake and this could have allowed for me to be able to return and rent the camera with the V Log. In addition, there policies on renting are "haphazard", as another reviewer eloquently wrote. You have to scan and send your license license and credit card, which I have never had to do before. Apparently they are the only game in Orlando...can't wait for a company with integrity and compassion for their clients to come in one day and crush them. read more

I read all the yelp reviews on this location before renting my lens because sometimes people's reviews are minor or bad luck. I had a great experience here. I rented the Sony 200-600 mm lens. The lens was incredible as was the service. Polite, prompt, and courteous. The initial process required verification and they called me ahead of time letting me know which is nice. Sometimes people review a service without thinking what the business has to give up. These are expensive equipment and of course they will have a verification process. After posting photos in Orlando photography group, a few people asked where I got my lens. I was happy to recommend this business to them. read more

I currently only have an ID. He comes back with an attitude like I'm a criminal. Stating that it's company policy not to rent out to customers with "records". Took a step back and asked if my friend could use his Drivers license to rent the screen, he replied no, because it's for you... AWFUL customer service! I suggest renting from anybody else over this company. Never have I seen such a bad attitude. It seems manipulating yelp can also be added to the lens depot repertoire. I posted a detailed account of my experience and strangely it went missing off of the site. To summarize my experience: I was in Orlando for a brief shoot and broke a tripod. Instead of ordering one from New York I figured why not rent locally to avoid hassle. Well... after filling out their online forms (pretty standard), I went back to prepping for the shoot. The next day I was contacted by a representative who instantly began chastising me. He argued with me about an email, wording of paperwork, why hadn't I done this and that. (This was a really cheap, simple rental keep in mind). Before I could catch my breath he was shouting and told me he had cancelled my order and didn't want my business anyway. Now I've worked in film for over ten years and I have never seen anything like this from a reputable company. I've rented from dozens of places in LA, NYC, and Miami. Absolute garbage service and policies. As a company, our Director does not have the time to deal with rental companies so because I was to take care of it, my name would not be on the card. I called in for their verification process (that requires you scan your drivers license and send it to them) and before I could even get through what I was saying, this guy cuts me off and starts to talk over me talking to me like I'm a child in the most condescending tone about how wrong I was. He told me that my director had to make his own account with all of his own information and do it all himself. This wasn't an option for us so after he cancelled my order and got his last few jabs in, I called lensrentals.com and everything was taken care of in a matter of a few minutes. I rent from The Lens Depot quite often and there's a reason why. They always have the equipment I need and they usually have lower rental prices than the other guys. All of their equipment is pretty high quality, and they seem to upgrade and get new pieces of equipment regularly. Very knowledgable about their inventory, and they give you quick tips on how to use certain equipment if needed. Also, one of the biggest reasons why I rent from them is they always remember my name, and that's great service to me. Even when I call them on the phone. I rented a Nikon 70-200 lens from them for a recent trip to the Orlando area. The whole process from ordering to return was simple and a positive experience. The staff gave me a quick overview of the features and functionality of the lens when I picked it up as I had only previously used the "Version 1" of the lens (this was the second version of the lens) and there were some minor operational changes that they pointed out. The equipment looked to be in "like-new" condition when I picked it up and it performed flawlessly for me for the duration. I found the pricing for a 1 week rental of this lens to be very affordable and reasonable. If I ever find myself in the area again and need to rent photography equipment, I certainly would use them again. read more

I am professional commercial photographer from Philadelphia. I needed to do a 10 day shoot in the Orlando area and I called on The Lens Depot of Orlando for Profoto gear. I started the order with their site; which was a little difficult at first but then I got the hang of it. They confirmed the order the next day via email and answered the phone when I had a question. They were courteous and prompt. The equipment was in excellent condition and they sent a "return the equipment prompt" the day before it was due via email. They took a lot of the worry out of a stressful assignment. I would recommend them for sure. read more

As an experienced upright walking human who can and routinely does clean his own bottom, I'm not certain why the unhappy reviews. I click to reserve, I pick up and I drop off. Never any problems or surprises here. I pick up a day or so earlier than I actually need the item, and I have a back up plan ready just in case. I've never had to go to Plan B with or because of The Lens Depot. TLD rental policies are in line with any rental house in Burbank or NYC. read more

Having rented from four different camera supply houses before, I can honestly call The Lens Depot the worst nickle-and-dime establishment I've dealt with. While most rental shops clear equipment for pick up and return for the entirety of their hours of operation on the days it's in use, The Lens Depot has charged my account exorbitant late fees on equipment that was returned mere minutes after the 72 hour mark. They have horrendous customer service and care very little (if at all) about return service. Avoid them like the plague. read more

They sent me the lens and camera quickly. The camera worked well before I went on my trip to Costa Rica. When I got to Costa Rica, the camera body would not turn on. I couldn't do anything about it while I was there. I sent back the lens and camera that I rented for two weeks. I mentioned in my return and on the phone, the camera did not work for the whole 14 days - it wouldn't turn on for several days. I did get it to work about 3 out of the 14 days. The reason for renting it was to have a long lens on one camera body and my shorter lens on my own camera body. Because it wouldn't turn on, I had to keep switching lenses and I missed quite a few shots because of that. The trip cost me over $5,000. I was with other professional photographers, like Tom Bol (www.tombolphoto.com) and George Theodore of the American Nature Photography Workshops (www.amnaph.com) who can verify that I couldn't get the camera to turn on. They tried unsuccessfully along with me. We changed the battery, we turned it on and off - or tried to; we did everything we could to try and make it work. Maybe it was the humidity in Costa Rica, or maybe it's just a problem camera, but my own camera body, Nikon D300s, worked just fine the whole two weeks. The Lens Depot sent me an email stating that they received the camera back and it works just fine. I will not rent from them again, nor would I recommend that you rent from them if you are going to need good equipment and be able to count on it. read more

A couple of years ago they were recommended by a pro I trust, so I rented lens from them to use at an out of town shoot. The very first day the telephoto I rented made the veiwfinder black out and the camera lock up. I turned it on and off to no avail and put another lens on that made it all work fine. I was forced to try the lens the rest of the week, because a wide angle wouldn't do the job. It kept freezing, locking up and taking photos that were 100% black. The event was sponsored by Nikon, and they had their factory techs there as support. They said the contacts that connect to the camera were worn out and the barrel was loose- signs of a badly worn out lens. For a few days they loaned me gear to complete the event. My camera, however, never seemed to recover. I'm writing this now because the thing is now a brick, after a couple of years of malfunctions. When I returned the lens, I told Magma or whatever her name is what Nikon had told me. She got snippy and told me I was wrong, and they would check out the lens. Of course, they said it was fine. Then she gets bitchy saying the lens caps they provided weren't Nikon brand, so I had stolen them and replaced them with these cheap ones. Rrriiiggghhhttt. I stole lens caps. For a lens I didn't have a copy of myself. She finally offered me 10% off my next rental as long as it was in the next month. I missed some of the best shots of my life. My camera was damaged by their worn out gear. Looking at the remains of it this morning, I realized I should at least make public my dissatisfaction. I've had nothing but excellent service from other companies. Avoid this place like the plague they are. read more
